I am thinking of purchasing a Lance 855S. Can this truck handle 2640 pounds dry?

I drive a 2002 F350 with a 5.4 and 6spd man. My Avion is around 2200 loaded w/o water. And the Avion is alot more "slippery" due to aerodynamics. With the 5.4 and the aide of the manual, it does OK with all 6 of us. I think that with the larger heavier camper, you will have to not be in a hurry, and you will need overloads like the F350,as the F250 will wallow all over the place. If you have the Automatic, there is another weak link in the equation of a heavy camper. Just a few thoughts. Hope they help. Oh and Sway-Bar?
Good Luck,

I have a 250 with a 881 max. E tires, stable loads is all I have. My camper is 3500lbs loaded minus water. You will be over weight...just need to be careful.

My concern is the 5.4. I had one in my old F150 and it would work over time pulling my 4000lbs boat.

2003 F250 has 8800 GVWR and 6084 RGAWR. With crew cab, 2wd and gas engine the truck likely weighs at least 6000 lbs empty and the rear axle likely weighs 3000.

8800 - 6000 = 2800
6084 - 3000 = 3084

If the camper weighs 2640 dry, it will weigh at least 3000-3500 loaded. That puts you over the GVWR for sure and likely over the RGAWR too.

The 855S weighs 100 lbs less than my 845 and my 2500 with upgraded tires and SuperSprings handles it very well. The problem I see is your smaller engine.

Now it will also depend on how many addons you do. A/C about 95 lbs and the list goes on.

Nope. With that truck you'll need to go with either the Lance 825 or Wolf Creek 816 or 850. The Wolf Creek 850 has the same layout as the Lance 855s but doesn't have the slideout and weighs 600 lbs less.

Now the F350 has a GVWR of 9900lbs and the only difference is the rear spring pack. My rear springs are off a 350 and my front are Pro Comp HD springs. Im not sure what Ford was thinking putting 8800lbs rating on a truck that weights 7500lbs loaded.

I think the issue is motor on this post. My modified diesel has a good time plowing through the wind...I make a little under 800 in torque.

I don't think his problem is the engine at all. The 5.4 engine is more than capable of moving the truck along just fine at weights around the truck's GVWR.

It's when you have a high combined weight, such as 15-20K lbs for truck and trailer together, that a small engine won't be up to the task. The 5.4 will move 10K lbs of truck and camper, no problem.

My 351 engine and 4.56 gearing moves 11K lbs of truck and welding equipment all over mountainous southern California, without problem. His 5.4 is more powerful than my 351.

His problem is GVWR, RGAWR and rear springs/tires/wheels. 8800 GVWR and 6084 RGAWR isn't enough to carry the weight of the camper.

If he upgrades the truck's springs, tires, wheels and sway bar to equal those of the F350SRW, he will be good up to 9900 GVW and 6830 RGAW (not legally, but practically).
