It has 100,000 mi on it and looks pristine. It's had one owner who has kept it garaged and kept it in good repair. He says it gets 12 --14 mpg, that I wouldn't find a nicer one that is that age. It's a Dodge Ram 2500,360V8. I haven't driven it yet but intend to. I'm a single woman and am pretty handy but... Please give me opinions. I would sure appreciate it.
Thank you, Jane

Read the FAQ's here on the B forum on buying used. Pay attention to the part about the test drive. 20+ years old, figure that all rubber parts and fluids are suspect, including brake hoses, differential lube, etc. Check mfg date on tire sidewall, if much over 5 years old, replace regardless of remaining tread. The age and miles, it's probably good for local camping and gentle touring on a non-schedule, not so good for long-distance on a tight schedule.

The floorplan & equipment need to be right for you. There's probably a number and model name along with the Roadtrek label. WSith those, folks may be able to comment on the specific model. It also helps to know what equipment, like generator, awning, etc.

'Asking' isn't 'selling'. Don't get a case of the gottahaveit's, especially if this is your first B.

I have a 1990 Dodge B250 318 ci. with 125,000 miles and I would drive it anywhere. Planning on a 10000 mile trip this summer. There are always people who will try to throw fear into buying a used older vehicle. Have it checked by your mechanic. That being said the transmission is probably ready for an overhaul for that year. It is a common problem. Cost about $2500.00 Trust me it is good for long distance if it is in good repair.
Sure beats paying $90,000.00 for a new Roadtrek.

Ask the seller if you can take it to a mechanic of your choosing and have the mechanic go over the entire vehicle's mechanics. Let the mechanic tell you what is good and what will need or needs replacement or repair. The RV systems you can test yourself. Have the seller go through the interior and exterior with you and show you that everything works as it should. Absolutely, take a test drive. Then you will make an informed decision.

Hello Jane -

According to the NADA RV Guide book, all 1990 Roadtrek models on a Dodge chassis should sell between $2000 and $3400.

$8500 with 100,000 miles is WAY too much.

That is the problem with some class B's that are for sale. Some sellers think they are made of Gold and are worth the inflated price they are asking for the unit.

I purchased my pristine Roadtrek at well below the NADA RV Guide value.

I would pass on this unit and keep looking. Yours is out there.

Here is the NADA link: NADA

Definitely pass - price for the age and miles is too high. As mentioned above some people get the idea these class b's are gold. I can't believe how many late 80's early 90's vans with 100k and people were asking as high as 12-15k dollars! I can't imagine anyone is paying those prices. A realistic price for that van as mentioned would be around 5k tops - and go down from there for any flaws less than perfect. And again as mentioned 100k miles is usually time for most common transmission failures in vehicles of that vintage. So that's another possible expenditure at that point.

I spend a lot of time on Craigslist lol wish I had more cash but if your diligent 8500 should buy you something well into the 2000 range year wise - there was an 2003 roadtrek in my area (Columbus oh) last week advertised for 5500 w 85 k miles.

Don't buy into the "definitely pass" statements; prices for Class Bs are extremely regional. In my area older ones sell fast at prices Bill thinks are unrealistic. Well, that puts him and reality in a challenge. And of course how much work you're willing to do is a big factor also. And if that one was as babied as you saw...

Just make sure you've taken the time to look around in your area. Get to know what the money can buy you in your area, and maybe a few hundred miles out. And how much the money is worth TO YOU.

In our case, we got a 1991 that was mechanically sound but needed quite a few bits of work for about $6K, in a market where 2000s even without generators and with leaks were getting snapped up at $18K quickly. (We know; we looked at a bunch.) Is it worth paying three times as much simply because Bill cruises NADA?

FaireCat, AMEN.

I always liked the definition of "market" the real estate folks use "Price at which a willing buyer and a willing seller meet".
