Amen to that! But for this factor, however, and in situations where I am not interested in the scenery, I would often prefer to drive at night. Mainly since there is less traffic.

For me, it depends upon the reason for the trip. Last time I moved cross-country, we got going about 4 hours later than we wanted to. We drove until about 2AM, stopped and slept for about 7 hours, then got back on the road. Ended up doing that all three nights we were traveling. We were in hotels so there wasn't any setup issues.
Now, with the trailer, we usually like to setup and tear down in daylight. When boondocking, daylight setup is the only option. Only occasionally will we plan to arrive after dark; making sure it's not too late and before the CG's quite hours.

Night driving for me...Far less traffic and FAR less idiots on the road.
Not being retired is also a consideration for our times to travel.

I also have trouble seeing at night with my old eyes. I found some night driving glasses that actually enhance the light without getting blinded by oncoming headlights. They have both glasses with frames and clip-ons. I don't usually drive at night anymore, but sometimes you get stuck having to.
Here's their web site. You can buy thru amazon as well.

I'm with the 3am crowd. I love driving and watching the sun come up. I like seeing the lights coming on in the houses along the way-I like to imagine those people getting up to go to work, while I am already up 'cause I'm on vacation!

Towing or with the family I prefer daytimes. But for just plain getting from point A to point B, then it is night driving. Less people on the road.

I like leaving at 3-4 AM. Traffic is a non-issue, this works real well if we're going south thru Atlanta. The other nice thing is getting to the campground at noon. I don't like getting to the campground after dark.

Having worked night shift for years, I don't do mornings except for work (I now work days). On weekends, I still find ways to sleep in until 9 or 10 (and yes I do have a young DD but we have a system in place for this). You will not see me emerge from my TT until after 10 am. When leaving from home, we typically get out of the house by 9-9:30, go to the storage lot and are rarely on the road before 10-10:30. I don't mind driving into the evening if necessary. You will never see me with the 3 am crowdas I am sound asleep in my bed and have been for about 2 or 3 hrs at that point. I think it all just boils down to personal preference.

It really depends on where, how far we are traveling and the check in times of the campground. We pack the trailer a couple of days before we go except for last min. things. If its not to far we usually leave around 7am which is there is light. If it is long distances and since I drive, I will get to bed early the night before and we leave around 3-4am when it is dark. The kids can go back to sleep once in the truck and so can the wife but she usually will stay awake. While she's getting the kids ready for the really early departure I packing the last items. Advantage to daylight is daylight. Advantage to night driving is there are less people on the roads and it is cooler to drive.

Aside from not seeing the scenery, I really enjoy driving at night, particularly on interstates that are not terribly crowded. What I don't like is pulling into a campground late at night and setting up.
