Keep in mind that a lot of threads get locked or deleted, not for the posts you do see, but for the ones you don't see that crossed the line and had to be pulled. If they get too numerous, the thread is done.

I have thought about posting this topic for a while and what eventually motivated me to do so was two locked firearms threads that were shut down before I had the chance to view them or add a comment. I assume the person(s) that started the thread my be frustrated to have the discussion end before a satisfactory answer is obtained.
It just seem to me the person seeking information is more likely to get one on a gun related forum and the people that would rather not gun friendly will not have to be offended by gun talk.
When I am not hauling my camper with my diesel truck the truck stays parked and I drive my electric Chevy Volt. I haven't quite figured out why some people hate the Volt so much but I try to avoid mentioning the Volt in some of the other forums I visit because it will probably cause conflict. My point is there are many other topics beside guns that can cause some people to get upset so maybe in the interest of peace and harmony we should avoid bring up guns on this forum unless it is absolutely necessary
I once read that studies have shown that most accidents occurr within 10 miles of home, so I moved

My traveling pet and always available firearms would be very confused.
Seems like this is a clear demonstration of how discussion on this topic quickly gets "wrapped around the axle".
Not at all, just a personal observation of my own experiences as an example. It seems the gun haters are just as prevalent as pet lovers. No correlation intended. BTW, I like the hardware.

Exactly as stated. I spent an inordinate amount of time deleting and editing the last gun topic before I closed it. Those who manage to get it closed know exactly how far to push it.
I am one who believes in the right to bear arms and I do so, however, I can't keep a topic open just because of my beliefs. I am much more tolerant of this topic than most moderators.
Again, I will warn, but I don't hold much hope that this will stay here.

When Charlton Heston held that rifle high and stated "From My Cold Dead Hands" during the conclusion of his speech at the NRA convention some years back, I saluted him, and our founding fathers for the second amendment.

I didn't intend this to turn into a debate about guns. The topic seems to get some people upset and quite frankly the people that run this place may be better off not allowing any talk of guns. I lost track of the number of guns I own but it is probably over 50 so I am not against guns. I also believe that guns may play an important part in keeping RVs safe. I am the type person that tries to avoid stirring up poop and making waves and inevitably when ever the topic comes up some people get upset.
I don't know what the RV demographics are but I would guess that a large percentage are older retired people like myself and the older and weaker among us have an even greater need for something to keep us safe. My suggestion was made in an effort to avoid getting people ticked off by trying to direct gun questions to other forums. Maybe there are some gun issues that are so specific to RVing that they are best discussed here but for the most part a gun forum may be the best place.
PS Before you think about a gun there are a lot of safety and legal issues to consider so please make sure that whatever you do it is both safe and legal

I noticed that in your profile Terry your DH retired from CHP. I was forced to retire as a police officer a few months short of 20 years due to injuries and my physical condition plays a big part of my need to have a weapon to defend myself. When I was younger I was able to handy myself without a gun but no matter how big or strong you are there is always someone bigger and stronger.
By the way people that carry guns will understand this, carrying a gun make any sane responsible person more likely to back away and even run from trouble. For me the gun is something to be used only if all attempts to avoid trouble have failed

Many of the Gun/Firearm forums have many sectons for outdoors, camping and RV. It is much easier to talk about your firearm questions on firearm specific sites. Find a large forum and ask away. (AR15.com is a huge site)(XDtalk is another good one)
It's not the mods that close down the topic. Its the people in the topic that close it down.
For myself and other like minded gun owners you have to be aware that many people live in highly restricted areas and either hate guns and their owners or are afarid of them.
