guess I have to replace my tires as I've noticed some cracks on the sidewalls and also at the tread. Have a 2010 jamboree sport with Michelin tires LTX m/s lt225/75r16 e that came with it when we bought it. Checked the date and tires were made 1st wk of June2008. our purchased date was oct 2009 so they were already 16 months old. only have 7900 miles on the coach and it doesnt seem right that they have already worn out. Have kept cover on them from the start and also not overloaded and have the correct presuure in them. have a trip coming in june with grandkids and safety is an issue. Any advice for a good replacement would be appreciated .

FedEx uses them and I was tempted to but have heard so many good reports about Hankook and decided to go that route instead. I have an appointment today to have 6 Hankook LT225/75R16E1 115S B DynaPro HT RH12 installed at Discount Tire to replace the Michelins that came with my MH. They are 6 years old with 12/32 - 13/32 thread but all have hairline cracks. It's amazing how much thread is still on the tires but a more serious problem is that a PO installed LT245/75 R16E instead of 225/75 R16 that Ford requires. As a result the sidewalls on the duals rub even with 80psi, empty storage tanks, 1/4 tank of gas and no mattress in the rear. I put 80psi in to see if that will stop the rubbing but it didn't. For months now I have the metal valve stems and Discount Tire will install them instead of rubber valves.

OP, I don't know if it's still going on, or the details. But I have read here several times in years past that Michelin has picked up part of the tab for replacing early-cracking LTX's. Check with a Michelin dealer.

The LTX's soft sidewall design is thought by several folks here to be a part of the cause of Ford steering /handling issues. So it may not be the best choice. I don't know about the LTX 2.

Our new Uniroyal Laredos (Load range E) replacing 6-7 year old (OEM) Laredo (Load range D) feels good and economical $150/tire.

OEM's had sidewall cracks - worse on fronts. Tread was like new on duallies. 225 75 16

I bought tire covers in hopes to go longer this set.

FYI just had six new Michelins, same as yours, installed. Old, new- looking, tires were 2003 and 2006 vintage, all had some potentially dangerous sidewall cracks, essential undriven since 2006. Total cost with tax in CA was $1384.00 at Allen Tires, waiting for $50 Michelin mail-in rebate. I was told that there was no Michelin warranty on premature cracking. Check with Michelin. Check internet prices for tires, print ad, ask you dealer to match best price that you find.

Planning to resume some serious touring and camping, didn't want to worry about some "iffy" tires. At least make sure that fronts are new and best quality. BTW, I was told that "newest" tires are made the previous year so they are at least one year old. Some big tire dealers will try to sell you really old stock tires, check the codes.
I will start covering my tires again to protect from sun, etc.

My Michelins did the same thing. Replaced with Hancook. It handles better too.

I put Firestone Transforce tires on a previous motorhome and had no problems. Probably next year I will have to replace the Michelins on this MH and am seriously considering Hankook tires.

I put the Michelins on in Nov 2010 despite warnings about cracks. I bought the insurance with the tires and they are warranted against cracks for 6 years. The insurance lowered the retail price of each tire (Discount tire) and was about $25 each tire. Only bought four as the front two tires were newer than the rears. No sign of cracking yet and we use the tire covers when stored, not when camping. Lots of folks will only buy the steel sidewalls now. Good luck on your purchase!
