I'd go with this, and make sure that you get the complete name of the person you spoke with about your concern. Sometimes, they can be quite nasty when it comes to denying things that they've told/instructed you previously.

I certainly do not disagree. I always try to get name, title, branch and anything else. The military taught me very well when it came to investigative methods.

Emission checks are only required in a few counties of N.C. Short of scamming another $13.00 out of us for a sham inspection, the only reason they do the inspection is to get the odometer reading so in the future they can tax you on miles driven per year. The only miles I drive in my rv in N.C. is to get out of N.C. The so called safety inspection has to be done in N.C. It is all done electronicly and goes right into their system. Here is another little tid bit, if you renew your license before you leave the area for 3 months,and have your mail forwarded to where you will be ( by the way they will not forward you county tax bill for the vehicle) you will be charged a late penalty by the county for each month you are past the due date when you finally return home and find the tax bill.
