Thinking of getting a small Class C motor home and will want to tow a small, high mileage car behind. I'm kind of attracted to the new Chevy Sonic. I would get a manual trans. From the manual, looks like it could be towed with 4 wheels down with no modifications. Is anyone doing this or have any info.

According to the Remco Towing Application Charts, the manual transmission Sonic is flat towable.

The Sonic is an amazing car...good value, nice engine and terrific mileage. Get the sedan instead of the hatchback, as it is said by the Car Magazine's to be quieter and more refiined than the hatchback.
And starts at $14,495.00 which is $1000.00 less than the hatchback.
With the base 1.8 engine manual you'll get an easy 26 city/35 highway mpg. And it comes with a 3 year warranty on the car, and a 100,000 mile 5 year powertrain warranty.
HOWEVER...get a definitive answer from GM in writing as to the towability, I searched and found a lot of confusion from dealers! And no word as to any distance or speed limitations either. BUT a forum member that IS a GM Engineer says "The 1.8L Sonic is towable, 4 wheels down. The transmission is a 6T30."
And just for your info only, It turns out that all the newer KIA's with manual transmissions can be TOAD 4 down without restrictions of speed or distance with no modifications...and the Soul seats 5, runs $14,000.00 base brand new, good prices when used, has huge cargo space and weighs just 2615 lbs and with the 6 speed manual gets 32 mpg. AND it's not a tiny "clown car", it's roomy, lots of head and leg room too, 40.2" head and 42.1 leg... more than a Cadillac CTS! If you prefer a sedan, the RIO sedan gets 40 mpg with a 6 speed manual @ 2410 lbs.
Again roomy, lots of head and leg room. Just install a tow bar. Good quality cars, 5 star safety ratings, great mileage, well made, comfortable, nice prices and a 10 year 100,000 mile drive train warranty!

According to the 2012 FMCA towing guide, the 2012 Sonic Sedan and Hatchback 1.4-liter are both towable 4 down in the manual transmission only.
The 2012 Sonic Sedan and Hatchback 1.8-liter are towable 4 down in both manual and automatic transmissions.

The Sonic 1.4T and 1.8 are both dinghy towable. Sedan or Hatchback. All non-RS models. Max tow speed is limited to 65mph. The distance is not limited. When stopping for fuel, food, break, etc. (ie a period over 10 min) the car should be run for 5 mins.
The performance RS model which is slated for production, is NOT dinghy towable.
