Hi. We are new to the world of RVing and we have a few questions.Even though this should be a no brainer, what can go into the gray water tank? I don't think cooking grease can be rinsed into the tank, but other than sudsy water what should we avoid?

I wouldn't pour grease from a fry pan into the tank but I certainly would wash remaining grease off of plates, etc.

we have one of the small wire strainers in the sink drain opening to catch small food particles, and don't dump grease down the drain. Other than that, everything that can go in the sink ends up in the drain.
DW usually scrapes of dishes with one of the silcone scrapers before washing, but that's more to make dishwashing easier than anything else.

Don't over think this. Just don't pour grease down the drain, you will be fine, and how do you plan on avoiding putting sudsy water in the tank? after all, when you shower. It's going in there. And as soapy grease floats on water, It will be going out when you dump the tank. Of course you can then rinse the tank.
We do try to avoid letting too much sand go in though, so we rinse the kids outside.

We attempt to limit the amount of grease and food particles that goes down the drain but we don't obsess over it either. There are products available for cleaning your grey tanks if grease build-up ever becomes an issue. Happy Camping!!!

I agree. In fact, I also do most of my cooking outside the TT to keep from splattering grease and to not have cooking smells inside. I have a Camp Chef propane two burner range I put on the picknic table and use non stick pans to cook with. When done, I wipe all grease and other stuff from the pans/utensils with a paper towel and simply throw the pt's in the trash. Once I have wiped the pans clean I take them in and wash them with dish soap, so nothing food related goes in the grey water tank.
It's also a great way to meet other campers, as I invite people that walk by for an outside breakfast or whatever meal I'm cooking. Nobody has ever taken me up on the invitations, but you always get a conversation going.

We normally will wipe our plates with used napkins prior to washing. We will also wipe down everything else with food particles prior to washing. No reason to put that stuff down into the tank and it doesn't take much time at all.

I would avoid pouring grease down the drain. A little bit that is stuck to pans would be ok. Just avoid stuff that in your mind would smell nasty if it's stuck on your tank for a long time. I.e. excessive food particles...grease.... etc. I have a cousin that. Allex my father over one day to a trailer she was living in. She couldn't get the sink to drain. Come to find out, she was pouring grease down the drain. It built up over a period of time. And let's just say it didn't smell good.

Great tip I saw somewhere that I want to start doing this summer:
Wash in dish pans and dump the water down the toilet (in the black tank). It gets little water during flushes and needs it to dump....
