Same thing happened to my ex. I hate to paint a company with the same brush over one incident, but it seems it happens there a lot more than once!

I use "Valvoline Instant Oil Change" for my oil changes. Very professional, well trained, very polite and friendly, seem to have a method to verify their work with coworkers, and mention the stuff you need but don't get a hard sell. We have several in our area, intersting to note the level of service is exactly the same at each one.

I had bad experiences with places like Jiffy Lube, Pennzoil, etc: failed to replace the oil filter (twice), replaced air filter with one too short to touch the cover, etc.
I found that of all places, Walmart does a good job. They take longer than you might expect, because their work is checked by a supervisor. Walmart can't afford to get a bad reputation, so they are very careful to do whatever they do in a quality manner. And while you wait, you can wander the isles. I take both my wife's van and my (gas) truck there. My former truck was diesel; they did that, too. So far, no complaints. Except for that half-hour or so wait, that is.

I have had Jiffy Lube do my oil changes etc. from after the first year I owned my 2001 Nissan Frontier. They had did a great job all these years. (Heath, Ohio) 257,000 miles - I guess it depends who it is managed by etc. I also get my oil changed on the Class B there.

Years ago, I used to be asst mgr at one. Bias aside, they are definatly the best. Employees are very well trained, and there are checks in place to be sure nothing is missed. I feel comfortable taking any vehicle I own to a Valvoline.

Wow. I pass a Jiffy Lube almost every day on the way home, and I hardly ever see any customers in there; they have a "Got 15 Minutes? No Waiting" sign up most of the time. Now I think I know why.
I did get a Walmart oil change one time, but they could not figure out how to change the oil filter on my new Highlander (it has a filter element inside a permanent housing rather than the usual 1-piece unit). They replaced the oil and did not charge me for the job. Decent of them.

Yea, I think the problem is largely that the people they hire are not usually mechanics, since mechanics are not going to be happy changing oil only and pushing wiper blade sales, so it is hit or miss. You might get a good tech, you might not. Luck of the draw.
I think there are enough bad issues to suggest some locations do not have very strong training managers.

Used them for years, knowing that besides changing the oil, they were doing a thorough checklist. Engine was steaming on a long trip, so pulled into a shop to see what was wrong. mechanic showed me that one of my freeze plugs had rusted out. When they drained the radiator it was just rusty water, despite Jiffy Lube's checklist which told me I was good to -20! Started going to my Ford dealership. Same price plus they wash my truck each time!

On the other hand, I've had a couple of very high mileage Toyotas, a Camry with 373,000 miles and Avalon with over 390,000 miles, serviced by at least 10 different Jiffy Lubes over the years, with not one problem. I can't defend them if they make gross mistakes; just saying I've not had any problems.
