I was reading a book lately and ran across my family name and the small town the family members resided in in around the time of the Yukon Gold Rush. The person in question was a rich hooker in the far north. Must have been a great, great, great Aunt. I think I know why my very proper Grandmother, keeper of family lore, never told me about her, rich or not. Only myself and my cousin left but she never heard of it either. Pretty funny.

Now you need to research it further.Guess it was easier than actually digging for the gold back then.

My folks were both into geneology and traced both sides of our family to Europe back as far as the 1600s. The saying between those that trace is that if you look long enough and far enough back, you're bound to find a horse thief. One limb of our tree stopped branching when first cousins married. I also have a picture of an ancestor's tombstone that says "Here lies _____, who slew the Irish Lord in the year _____." So, apparently, we came to the U.S. on the run!
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

From what I have read, it was well known in sopme circles that you could make a LOT more money "mining the miners" than you could searching for gold or silver.
Whether it was running a laundry, a boarding house, a general store, a saloon, or a bawdy house, it was less work for a higher return than mining!

Well, one famous Yukoner had a diamond tooth and they called her Gertie...maybe it was her.
There was a Klondike Kate that was famous too.
Another one they called Buckshot Betty that is located in Beaver Creek, unlike the other two located in Dawson.
Then again, Donald Trump's grandfather owned a courier or shipping company that hauled goods during the gold rush I am thinking -to and -on the Chilkoot Trail.

Do some more research. Maybe that rich aunt left money somewhere.
