Assuming you have enough clearance for 15" wheels, decide what size tire and load range you plan to run. I would buy wheels that are good to at least 80psi and mount either 225 75R 15E Maxxis 8008 tires, or equivalent truck tires (again assuming enough room) with the proper valve stems, etc.
Money well spent.

The biggest potential problem is clearances. 15" tires will be almost 2" larger in diameter than the 14".

That may depend on the tire.

A Maxxis 205-75R-14 is 26.11 inches in diameter.
A Maxxis 205-75R-15 is 27.11 inches in diameter.

I just did the same thing you are contemplating. I went from a 205/75-14 load range C to a 205/75-15 load range D. I really wanted to go to a 225/75-15 but was afraid it would be a little tight. Make sure you take some careful measurements before you decide. Mine had plenty of room for a larger diameter but the width was the issue. Mine clear with no problem. I increased the carrying capacity of the tires by around 400lbs per tire. Be aware that your axle rating will determine your maximum load capacity. I just like having a larger safety factor as well as a taller tire. I went with the Maxxis 8008 tires.

Thanks,

Can he do it? Probably. Is there an advantage? Probably not. Blowouts can not nor should they be attributed to whether you have a 14" tire or 15". If you have good tires, maintain pressure, and perhaps spend your money on a good TPMS your good to go.

You might want to take a look at Capri Racer's thread in the Tech Issues section. There is an advantage to running your tires at only %85 of capacity when it comes to reliability. Odds are good, knowing the industry, the OE tires are running at %95+ of their capacity.

My new trailer has GAWR of 3500 pounds. Legally, they could have put the ST205/75R14 tires rated 1760 pounds at 50 psi. But I have to give Skyline credit for putting ST205/75R15 LRC tires on it (1820 pounds each at 50 psi). If I were to run at max GAWR (which I probably will), I would be running the tires at %96 of their load capacity. To run at %85, I would need a tire rated at 2059 pounds. I have 5 ST225/75R15 LRC tires (2150 pounds at 50 psi) stacked in the garage waiting to be mounted. I can use the almost half inch increase in ride height too.

I think DH'll probably change out the tires, sounds like there could be an advantage and it certainly isn't going to hurt anything. The trailer hasn't been camped in yet, so the tires have full tread. DH figures if we switch them out now he can sell the 14's on craigslist and at least recoup a bit of money.

The trailer is in the shop right now getting a a new decal and awning piece (crossroads has honored my pickiness, great CS for sure). DH is supposed to bring it home tonight and we'll take measurements to be sure the larger tires will fit.
