I towed an 18' Gearbox with my Tahoe. It weighed about 8k loaded. The Tahoe towed it, but I swapped it several months later. Save hassle and money: Buy what you want from the start...upgrading later sux.

According to the TrailerLife towing guide, the Tahoe can pull anywhere from 4500# to 8500# but that depends on if it is 2WD or 4WD, what gears are in the rear end, what engine you have and if you have the cooling package. I think you have made a good decision in looking at something a little smaller for now and once you get a good feel for the RVing, you can go bigger on both the TV & TT.

I pull the 27dfwp in my sig with my 2008 Sequoia. Pulls it no problem. I have 4.30 gears though. Not sure what the gears in the tahoe are but you could swap them. I would suggest just hooking it up (WDH needed of course) and trying it out. As mentioned it does have a heavy tongue weight so you would have to take the cargo capacity of the tahoe into account as well.

creed_190 wrote: This is my first post to this forum and I am looking into buying a Toy Hauler in the near future. Originally I was planning on selling my Chevy Tahoe and buying either a Chevy 2500HD, gas or diesel pending on what size camper we were going to buy. But this weekend I found a great deal on a 2010 30' bumper pull Wolfpack Toy hauler, but my question is will I be able to pull it my '07 Chevy Tahoe?? The GVWR for the camper is around 5,800 and my Tahoe GVWR is 7,200. Figuring on the average I will be hauling 2 4 wheelers (1,000 lbs total) along with cloths and food. I figure I would be maxing out the limit on my truck. I live and travel around south LA and SE TX so altitude and mountains are not in question.. Finacially it would be alot cheaper to keep my Tahoe since its paid for and find a camper that I'm able to pull. Any suggestions?
Hello and welcome to the forum.
Your 30' TH @ 5800lbs is at best an optimistic dry weight, not GVWR. Totally unloaded, with nothing for options... no batteries/ac,genny, nothing/nada. Just numbers they can throw around in there sales brochures to entice people like yourself owning a small tow vehicle. Unfortunately, many TH manufactures do this type of misleading sales hype.
Loaded with water, a few options, supplies, and toys, will easily put you at the max gvwr (8000lbs?) and probably over.
The tongue weight is also at least 1000lbs. Wouldn't surprise me if it was 1200+ when loaded.
IMO, tongue is important to consider.
What is your Tahoe's tongue weight max ?
