If you don't know the proverb it's in Wikipedia. Well for me instead of a nail substitute a TPS.

Started out from home last Friday for a weekend end trip 90 miles away at one of our fine Virginia State Parks. Checked the tire pressures and everything was fine. Had to run on the city streets for a bit to bypass a bottle neck and associated traffic on I64 here in Newport News. On the interstate everything was great for about 5 miles then the coach started pulling to the right a bit. Figure the winds might be picking up or the road bias was pushing me. Two miles later my two finger driving turned into whole hand and not long after both hands. Knew something was wrong and just as I made the exit (eight miles on the interstate, 20 miles from home) the rumbling started. Right front tire had gone flat, and quickly. Good Sam ERS hooked me up and it delayed our travels by about 2 1/2 hours.

Here's the problem and the want of a TPS. The tire is shot since I drove on it way to long at a very low pressure. It was smoking by the time I pulled over to look. The ERS service only had recaps available, which will get me down the road but needs to be replaced. If I had a TPS I would have known the tire was going down and gotten off the road sooner before I killed the tire. The loss of air was a bad valve stem, only a few dollars. I don't know the final cost of the service but I'm willing to bet a lot more than a six wheel TPS. I have a pending $500+ charge on my credit card at the moment.

The offending valve stem.

A future tire swing.

The TPS just moved up to the top of my RV accessories bucket list.

There's more to the weekend. I made a new rule of never starting a trip on Friday the 13th. Stairs didn't retract when I started the engine and pulled out of the drive way. Caught it a mile from home. Didn't get to the camp grounds until 10:30 instead of the planned 7:30, found a sight (first come first served at Va State Parks) and was all set up when a group of tent campers showed up having claimed the site earlier so we needed to move. When cleaning the coach earlier that day with an upright vacuum I needed to put the vacuum on the driver's seat to use the hose attachment to clean around the gas pedal and such. The still rotating brush/beater bar worn a hole in the seat fabric. Can't think of what else happened.

Also, it you're getting new tires as I did 360 days and 7300 miles ago, don't forget new valve stems, like I did.

WOW! Sorry to hear of ALL your problems! I put a TPMS on my coach just last month and it sure does give me peace of mind! I hope all your future trips go better than this one did. But, then again, it was Friday the 13tha nd you said you won't do that again!

Recaps??? I think you need to talk to Marcus about this! "Exclusive Good Sam Benefits - Nationwide Tire Delivery Network" It is the very first "Exclusive" benefit listed. I would sure hope that recaps are not "exclusive" for us RVers who chose Good Sam Roadside service.

I could have turned him around and waited another 4 hours plus to get something better. Plan to head to the tire shop before Friday. The recap will make a good un-mounted spare.

And Dennis, not only was the experience priceless but I also charged it to my MasterCard. Double priceless.

I recommend the 507RV system from TstTruck. They are sending me two new sensors for my two-year old system, no questions asked. The best customer service ever!

Dale,

Look at it this way - you got the breakdown monkey off your back early in the season! Hope the next trip is flawless!

Sounds like a central vac should also be on the top of your RV bucket list.

1993 Coachmen Catalina 31'
Chevy P30, 454 TBI, Hedman Hedders w/ x-pipe and Jones Full Boar mufflers. Same mileage as stock exhaust, but we get there faster!
Looking for a better rig...

That was pretty much my feeling about noontime Saturday. Friday may not have been much fun but Saturday and Sunday in the camp ground washed that all away.
