My Dual-Therm Ac will try to run once the breaker is turned on. I have the anlog thermostat. Even with the selector switch in off or furnace position, it is trying to run.I can not say for sure if it is running or trying to start, but I see a 6 amp draw on my Progress Industry monitor panel. If I switch to AC it does start up and runs about 9 amps for the few seconds that I have it on.
I pulled the yellow wire on the T-stat (compressor) control wire and I can hear the relay Clicking off. With the yelow wire off at the T-Stat, I can urn on the beaker and I have no power draw. I have no circut digram of the T-Stat, so I am wondering, from what I am seeing now is that a indication that I have a bad T-Stat or do I have more hunting to do?
Can anybody help me before I go out to buy something I may not need. Thanks Gary

You have a stuck relay on your AC control board. Replace the board. Doug

Doug, When I remove the yellow wire I can hear a relay cycle on and off. However when the yellow wire is hooked up to the T-Stat the compressor will draw 6 amps, but when I turn the switch to AC it runs normal. I have not run it long so I don't know if it will turn off. Isn't the yellow wire for theCompressor Relay?
Also, I have tryed to check the number for my AC unit. Best I can make out is a model #60012.331, do you know if that sounds like a good number for what I believe is a Dual-Therm Penquin?
Thanks Gary

Mine did the same thing. It was the compressor relay on the circuit board. Replaced relay and a 10 microfarad capacitor that should have protected the relay contacts. All is well.

I guess I am confused. I thought your post stated NO MATTER what you did with the tstat or wires, the compressor ran unless you turned the breaker OFF. If that is true your Compressor relay is stuck closed. . Yes, the number is good, you have an OLD Penguin. If the unit runs normally, then yes, look at a defective Tstat. The amp draw with FAN on will be about 10 or 11 amps at about 80 degrees ambient. Does the fan run also when the problem happens? If connecting the yellow wire and you hear the relay click and then the compressor starts, then the tstat is probably bad. Doug

Doug I will try to clear this up. With the breaker on and the yellow wire in at the T-stat no matter where the switch is placed(off or Heat) the compressor is on. If the T-stat is moved to AC the Comressor runs and the fan comes on. If I remove yellow from the T-Stat the Compressor will shut down. When I first heard the compressor on I just shut off the breaker. Now I am getting things ready for the new season. And checking things out, I can hear a relay clicking off and on as I remove or replaced the yellow wire. I was thinking that the yellow wire would control the compressor relay to run it if cooling was needed. And since I have a relay that seems to be always powered that is why the compressor is on. That the t-stat is telling the AC, I want it to be cooler.
Doug Thanks for you help and the info on my AC numbers as I was not able to match my numbers with the information to what I could find on line. Thanks again. Gary
