Thinking of upgrading to a Class C. I like the Cabcover style for the extra storage/bed space as in a Jayco Greyhawk. Is there an advantage to the non-cabcover style as in a Jayco Melbourne, besides better aerodynamics. Is the gas mileage any better? Thanks RVers.

With a non-cabover you get a much better view of the mountains of Utah, that is nice.
Mostly the thing to watch for with Class C's is get something that others will really like. It's really quite difficult to find something that is meant for luxury for two people, but it's also really hard to sell the same when you want to move on.

I never owned a class C motor home. I have owned cab over campers. I just found there was more moisture that collected on the ceiling in the cab over area. Never had that problem in a class A motor home, 5Ver or TT.

Nice thing about a "C" with a cabover bed - if you get a leak, you'll know right where to look - around the useless window. They make them without the overhead window, and they're more waterproof. And it is nice for storage.

The cab over type Class C's always have more underfloor storage than the "B" type RV's, (unless you go with the much bigger "B+", and the bonus is the cabover bed storage area. Most brands have done away with the front cabover windows now.

I would not give up the space of the cab over bed, but I would look for a solid fiberglass nose cap if buying new.

Take a look at the Forest River Sunseeker line. Fiberglass front cap and roof (no leaks). Cabover does not hang over as much as some others. Great place for storage and extra sleeping for guests like the grandkids.

i guess ours has the best of both worlds: pull-out bed under the entertainment system above the cab, and no front window. the only drawback is the bed is a single, although my DS22 at 6'-5" has no problem sleeping up there. he just puts his pillow on top of the side storage bin and he has an 8' long bed.

Every class C cabover bed with seamwork in that area is susceptible to water leaks. If I really needed that extra bed, I would get a seamless bucket design. New seamless ones are very hard to find on the large Ford versions, but the smaller Sprinter versions are readily available.
If you don't need that extra bed, then I strongly advise to consider a B+ as they are both seamless and aerodynamic offering improved handling as well as fuel economy. They are quite nice inside as well, offering storage and entertainment along with providing a nicer more open living area.
If you intend to take full advantage of the massive storage a conventional class C cab-over offers, you are at risk of over-loading it with too much weight which will further encourage seams to split.
I imagine it would be heartbreaking to find water and mold damage inside a motor home. This is the time of year for owners to head out to their storage lot and discover their wonderful class-C has been leaking all winter long. I don't know the percentage of failed seams, but I would not risk it if I did not need that bed in the first place.
Here is an example of a hard-to-find Ford chassis seamless cab-over bed.
This is ideal.

Here is the same brand motor home, but with cab-over seamwork.
This type of seamwork is not as bad as some.

This design is most susceptible to water penetration.
Again, the same brand motor home.

I am not picking on Tioga here. Actually I commend them for offering a seamless cab-over model. Most companies do not.

We have a 2008 Greyhawk 31SS with the fiber glass front cap. We love the extra space and I actually find the "Loft" to be my favorite space to hand out to read or since the television is mid coach, great view for watching a good movie. I am 6'1" and can actually sit up in our cab over area. The newer models are more aerodynamic, but you sacriface space. We rented a Class C before we purchased and the cab over was smaller and I could actually hit the ceiling when rolling over. Very clostrophobic!
I would not get a model with a front window due to history of leaks and window chips. We do have the 2 side windows and thus far no problems. We just drove from MA to Cherry Hill RV Park in MD. My front cap is covered with dead bugs. Another reason NOT to have a front window! LOL
We often have guest and it is nice not to break down the couch or table for extra sleeping space.
We almost purchased a model with the front entertainment center but are now glad we have the extra bedroom. Some models have the front entertainment center with a slide out bed for one. Not sure if they still make that design.
See you on the road!
