How would a person mount a bike rack to the back of the trailer.

Is the bumper solid enough to hang a hitch on?

Thank You

Do you have a ladder on the back of your trailer? You can buy a bike rack that hangs on that ladder. We got ours at camping world. Works great. We got some bungee cords to bind the bikes to the bike rack (eliminating a bit of rattle).

Bumpers are often too weak.

Have a qualified welder fab up a receiver hitch to the frame of the trailer.

Another option might be to get a receiver hitch for the front of the tow vehicle.

Bumpers can typically hold about 100 to 150 lbs. They sell a standard 2" receiver that you can mount to your bumber and put a bike rack on. I did that with my old TT but took off my spare tire to offset the weight. My total load with rack and bikes combined never exceeded 60 lbs. I'd be scared to go any higher than that.

With my new TT, I'm not doing it. Just a personal choice.

good advice. Also the carriers where the bikes are held by the wheels down low are much better than the type where they hang. The hanger type have too much cantilever effect which causes bouncing that in time will weaken and case failure. I know from experience.

only problem w/ welding a hitch onto the TT frame is if you are still under warranty. This will often times void your warranty. We ended up using a bike rack on the back of the old SUV and when we switched TV to the pick up, we now put them loose in the bed.

IF i could figure out how to send a pic on this site I would show how I did mine. No welding period the bumper isn't heavy enough, so I made some (and you can buy them)Square "U" bolts for this. Bracket to bolt on the plate welded to a 2" receiver. We purchased a Thule bike carrier, NOT the kind that you "hang" a bike on to . This one the bike sits on and locks down.
Any way if you want pictures. PM me or reply I will subscribe to this post.

A rack configured to mount between the trailer and the TV is best.

A few forum members have posted pictures of their tongue mounted racks. A quick search will locate the posts.

I run a pin box mount on the 5th. I had a local welder fab a mount to hold an under tire type rack that we had left over from a prior MH

Just personal opinion I suppose, I guess I 'd rather be the first to run them over, should they ever fall off.

It's most cases it's not a bumper, it's barely a "sewer slinky holder"! and that's about it in most cases. There are a few trailers that can handle it w/o some reinforcements. Outbacks do come with a seperate reciever capable of handling two bikes.

What I did was cut off the existing bumper and welded on a 4.5" square x 1/8" thick tube using full penetration welds and welded a 2" reciever tube to the new bumper.
