They're not left to ask but as I recollect like the others it was cut from the cob. If it was not still milky fresh they cooked in a little lard or bacon drippings and a little salt. If it was sweet corn cut it off the cob and strip the rest of the corn juice from the cob in the grease with salt to taste. Sometimes I remember black pepper, in the field corn but maybe not the sweet corn. Green onions and peppers were added some times. Not many ways to ruin any of them.
A skillet of corn or corn on the cob and big bowl of pinto beans, corn bread, a pile of green onions, platter full, of acid tangy tomatoes, with a hint, of salt, platter of fried chicken, a pile of real mashed taters with cream and butter, butter milk, or tea poured hot over a big glass, of ice. Not many could pull themselves away, from the table and walk a mile. Usually a large 2 or 3 layer yellow cake with icing made from powdered sugar and butter. Uncle Francis ate half and everybody got what was left. Then he would go plow a field. Not an ounce of fat on him.

I like to fry mine in butter (too little and the corn will stick) with salt, pepper, and sometimes a little cayenne or garlic powder. I then toss in a some panko bread crumbs to absorb some of the butter.
The panko will brown and get crunchy. Adds a great textrure to the corn.
If I'm making mexican I'll dice up some pablano pepper and onion and add it to the mix.

My mom's recipe:
First cut the corn off the cob. You will make 3 cuts.
1. Cut the top layer off of the kernels
2. Cut the middle layer of the kernels
3. Scrape the cob to drain the juices
Then fry at least 2 slices of bacon. Eat the bacon and pour the corn into the frying pan with the remaining grease. Heat on a medium setting and stir constantly to keep it from sticking for about 10 minutes. Then add butter, salt and pepper, and maybe a little sugar if it's not sweet enough.
Edit: Silver Queen is the variety of corn that is most desirable in these parts. It's a white corn that is very sweet.
One more thing...you can add up to a couple of tablespoons of flour if it needs thickening.
