While in VietNam over forty years ago, all I could dream about was coming home and have a meal of fried chicken, mashed patotes, white gravy made from the chicken grease, green beans and a big chocolate cake for dessert. If that happened to be Moms weekend to make bread also, I would have been in heaven!!!

FOOTNOTE: I arrived home unannounced and for dinner that day it was roast beef. That had to be meal of choice in the mess hall two or three times a week and to this day the smell of roast beef almost turns my stomach.

We plant a garden and eat out of it as much as possible. I buy homegrown beef, pork, chicken and eggs - that's real food - and no matter how you fix it, it's comfort food to us.

Beans, potatoes, wilted greens, green onions or big spanish onion quarters, corn fritters or corn bread, sweet and hot ad flavorful chow chow the occasional chicken instantly says home. If it wasn't for this kind of meal I wouldn't be here.
Bring on the scratch made cakes from fresh ground flour and it's heaven.
Wife has a biscuit receipt that won her three regional fairs and is published somewhere. She hasn't won't make them for m for over 20 years, I've got to bribe her some way. and some homemade muscydine crab apple jelly aand hot pepper jelly.

Family don't know it but Opposuum is on the menu at the Family reunion.
Trying to find a couple youn skunks too.Got a big plump groundhog already.
They'll love it.

Home made chicken soup. Not my favorite food or what I would order in a restaurant but my comfort food. I may have to make some tomorrow as the temperature is supposed to be going down finally.

Meat loaf made by my wife is one of my favorites. Use what is left over for gravy and fresh mashed potatoes, salad, and anything chocolate for desert.

When my mother was still with us, it would be the smell and taste of fried chicken. My wonderful wife had my mother show her how and never could get the same thing. No one made fried chicken like her.

As a kid my dad would hunt squirrels and my mother would cook them. They had their own unique smell and were delicious. That is almost to many years ago to remember.

One last thing is gooseberry pie or cobbler.

Gosh, this has made me hungry for the old things.

I have the peanuts or the beer. We could sit down and share.

All this sounds so good! It's kind of amazing that one simple menu can make you feel like you've just gotten a hug from the past. I've never heard of "In and Out" I'll have to look that one up. Thanks for sharing your memories, and please keep them coming!
