We've had deer in the city for years, and occasionally bear will show up in some of the smaller towns north of here. But a mountain lion, now THAT's different!!

Cougars / Mountain Lions are an animal that I do not feel comfortable around.

We have had Black Bear, Moose, Bobcat's show up in our town, but we're in the southern part of the province

In the northern part of the province...the town of Churchill...they have Polar Bears enter the town. Enough 'visits' that they have a temporary Polar Bear 'jail'.

I've yet to see one in the wild but...When I was a child I was outside playing and heard a baby cry and then a woman crying. I went to tell Grand Ma an Mama. About that time there was a terrific growl.
Grand Ma yanked me indoors and closed all the doors and windows. It wa summer and hot.
They said it was a Whistling Jack. When the men got home they went to the woods with shotguns looking for it or to see if it was still around.
I had one pace me along an old Trace in the seventies while hunting. I was on the road and it was in the trace a few yards u the hill. It was getting dark and I could here it's footfalls and it screamed. I near wet my pants. Just as I approached the farm the dogs came running toward me and crossed the road and up the hill after it.
Second time was near the same area. It went out. I could hear the cat but could not see a dad blamed thing. Thank God a couple hunters came along in an old jeep and gave me a ride out. I liked hunting alone in the mountains but I don't much care about doing, after dark when you can't see what is lurking there.

We have been getting wild life including big cats coming into the western suburbs for a while. Two lion incidents earlier this year including one where a guy came out and saw the cat sitting in a tree watching his 4 year old play in the yard.
A few years back a kid was dragged off while on a walk with the family, but other than that most have been pets.
Bear and coyotes are common place anymore but the cats are a more recent thing.
