Would like to know the best way to sanitize the water system in a new TT. It came winterized.

Geo method seems to be for grey and black water tanks, I wonder about the fresh water tank though.

My fresh water tank hasn't been in use since March and I'd like to sanitize it before putting water in it again. I think I've read somewhere that using a little bit of bleach, letting it sit overnight, then flushing it with fresh water a couple times over a couple days would do the trick. Any thoughts?

Add a cup or two of bleach, fill your fresh water tank. Let is sit overnight. in the morning, open all faucets hot and cold including shower and outside shower, let water run for 10 min (I remove ends of faucets -screens to not clog should there be "gunk" that comes through). Turn off ALL faucets. Open fresh water low point drain and let remaining water drain. Fill fresh tank wtih just clean water and repeat. Should be good to go.

Before hooking up to city water dewinterize by removing water heater plug/anode and checking water heater for antifreeze. If antifreeze is in the tank it will need to be flushed with the system along with setting bypass valves to wash out the tank. If none, reinsert plug and leave water heater bypassed. Connect to city water. Remove dump connection cap and open grey water dump valve. Connect dump hose if necessary. Turn on city water. Open cold water faucet closest to city water connection. Open next closest faucet, then the next, etc. Don't forget the toilet, shower wand and low point drain. When the first faucet no longer flows pink close it, then the next then the next. Open the hot water faucet closest to the water heater, then the next closest, etc. Continue as you did with the cold water faucets. Don't forget the low point drain and shower wand if you don't have a spout on the tub faucets. Shut off the city water. Open all faucets and the low point drains. This will empty most of the system. Close low point drains and faucets when system is empty. You should be dewinterized unless they filled the water heater too but that is unlikely.

To sanitize per my trailer manual and most others use 1/4 cup of unscented bleach per 15 gallons of water. Mix the bleach with 1 to 2 gallons of water and pour it into the water tank fill opening (I do this by using a 2-1/2 gallon water jug with a hose attached). This will keep you from having to pour full strength bleach into the tank fill line. Also if you have a dip in the fill hose you won't get full strenght bleach splashed back on you when topping off the tank. Top off the fresh water tank.

Fill system from the fresh water tank using on board pump. Open each cold water faucet in the same order as dewinterizing until water is flowing and then turn off the faucet. Don't forget the low point drain, toilet and shower wand.

Set water heater bypass valve or valves on water heater to fill it up. Open the hot water faucet closest to the water heater. After the initial burst of water You should get a lot of air as WH fills. Once it fills continue opening and closing hot water faucets, shower wand and hot water low point drain to finish filling the hot water lines. Top off Fresh water tank again. I usually add another 1/4 cup of bleach using the jug and hose method then finish topping off the tank.

Let everything set for 24 hours. Open a faucet to relieve pressure and remove the water heater plug/anode again to empty the tank completely. Drain the system again. Put the plug/anode back in the WH and flush the system with city water opening and closing the faucets, toilet valve shower wand and low point drains as before. Don't forget to close the grey valve and disconnect the dump hose and city water line. Almost forgot mine once before I moved the trailer.

You could search this Forum for `sanitizing' or `sanitize'. A previous poster said to fill the FW tank and let it sit. However, to sanitize the lines you need to fill the FW tank then open the faucets, one at time, until you smell bleach. Close the faucet. Let EVERYTHING sit for at least three hours then dump the FW tank and flush everything.

Please remember to be careful about handling all aspects of this process. Make sure to use a white,(potable water) hose. Use disenfecting wipes on all connections before you hookup. Pour FS bleach into white hose and rinse thru. Wipe white hose with wipes before storing. Remember to use the wipes on the connections when you connect to CW at the campground. Dogs love to pee on the posts.
