For our fist few months of full timing,I carried a 5 gal. container of diesel fuel "just in case".About once a week I would put it into the truck tank to keep it from "going bad"then refill it with fresh fuel, only to dump it in the tank again after a week or so.Finally figured out that I really did not need to carry the extra fuel. The truck has a 35 gal fuel tank, which helps.

Swap out your tool box for a box that has a tool box on the top and the bottom half is a fuel tank. It hooks into you inline fuel line and is the only safe way I would increase fuel capacity in the bed. Another option is to purchase and install a larger under the bed fuel tank.

We used to carry at least 2-5 gal diesel tanks. But it got to be a hassle stopping at a Rest Area and filling up. So we opted for an in-bed tank.

Now when we buy a TC in the distant future, we've already decided to switch out the OEM fuel tank with a Titan (or whichever is largest at the time). That will free up the whole bed.

Right now, I have a five gallon can with gas + Sta-Bil sitting in the truck bed.

Long term, when I buy my MH, I plan to buy a cargo carrier for the rear hitch and use the Rotopax mounting system.

What I like about the Rotopax containers is that they can be mounted either vertically or horizontally, and with the locking handle, they will remain in place barring an unfortunate incident with an angle grinder.

Downside of the Rotopax cans is the price, but from what I've seen, they are worth the cost, because of the way they securely stack in place.
