We own a Terry TT that is about 8 years old. Have never had a problem with the entry door lock, until now. When we put it away last fall there were no problems, but when we took it back out this summer the key would not go into the deadbolt lock on the entry door. This is the same key that goes into the handle lock, and it works fine there, but won't go into the deadbolt lock at all.

I then broke into the trailer through an unlocked window and the lever on the inside of the door that is supposed to open the deadbolt will not move, not even a little bit. I then tried to remove the entire handle/deadbolt lock mechanism from the door to try to inspect it, but I can only get it halfway out (unscrews all the way and is plenty loose, but is hung-up somewhere in the deadbolt and won’t come free from the door jamb.)

Any ideas as to what is wrong and what I can do to resolve this. Trying to avoid the cost of a locksmith at this point.

Thanks
Mark

It could be corrosion inside of the door lock OR if could be someone with a very sick sense of humor who filled the lock with glue (I've heard of it happening before). Try lubricants etc. first and be prepared to replace the lock.

Carefully applied PB Blaster may help

Poke at the keyway with a paperclip. some people with a sick sense of humor will try breaking a key off in the lock. If the paperclip does go the way in, then time to use the lubricant trick. The tumblers might be damaged from someone trying to jam the wrong key in. This is not uncommon because there are "master" keys which work in one cylinder, but won't work in the deadbolt.

Can poke a straightened paperclip in no problem, but not the key. PD Blaster (WD 40) did not help. Any other ideas?

I use WD-40 to kill weeds that pop up in the cracks between slabs of concrete. It dries out distributor caps but Mazola Corn Oil would be a better lubricant.

The mechanism needs to see a true penetrating oil. See if you can find some LIQUID WRENCH penetrant. Not Lube, or Silicone, but penetrant. Not as good as KRoil but it is miles and miles better than a water displacement fluid.

FLOOD the keyhole using the stem straw squirter. Then gently tap on the lock with something metal just short of the point of marring the lock.

Then wait.

Think I am joking about comparing Mazola Oil to WD-40 as a penetrant and lubricant? Try it yourself and see. The Ad campaign for WD ranks right up there with "Pork! The Other White Meat!"
