So, spent the weekend camping at a beautiful lake front spot at Alum Creek state park. Weather was perfect and we even paid for an extra day so we could enjoy Sunday afternoon while the lake and park was quiet. Started to pack up and leave and I had the engine running and went to bring in the electric awning. Now I have had this rv for a year and I guess I never attempted to bring in the awning while it was running, and I had no power to the awning. Had some people check out my breakers and fuses and we could not figure out what was wrong. Had to leave the rv there over night and called a repair person., Went over early today to meet him there and just decided to try it again and it worked. Never would have guessed that the awning would not work while the engine is running. I felt like the biggest goofe, so I guess I am still learning about my rv even after a year.

Interesting factoid!

Don't feel bad...If we are honest, there are many of us who have had awning issues, from leaving them open during a wind storm...ruining the awning as we did to many other "awning learning experiences."

Thanks Reader 1 from Ohio, it is easy to confess on this site. What I did not say is that the repair guy had just arrived when I figured it out so it did cost me a service call. But I was so glad that it was not broken, that I did not mind my mistake. There must be a safety feature that you cannot operate the awning while the engine is running.

I think I will try mine today to see if it is unresponsive while engine running. I would have preferred a manual awning, but dealer wouldn't swap it out. Im just waiting for something electric to hang up.I was surprised tho that the motor home will move with the sliders out. My coachmen 2007 model would close up sliders quickly if engine was started.

I guess I don't understand engineers. I wouldn't think that slides closing without intervention would be a good idea. What if something is interfering? As for the awning not closing with engine running. Seems to me it would be better if engine wouldn't start with slides or awning open, but that'd just me.

We bought a new Itasca in '02. At that time the salesman to us that Winnebago was the only mh that you could move the slide in with the engine running.

our tv was hooked up so that it would not work while the engine was running , I guess so you dont try to watch and drive? Sounds silly to me but I heard a story of a driver who got up and left the driver seat to get a cup of coffee because he thought that cruise control meant the rv would drive itself...

You are not the lone ranger!
Ask a mobile RV repair guy how many times they are called out because a generator won't start.........only to find out they have less than 1/4 tank of gas in the MH.

Gens won't won't start with less than a 1/4 tank of gas in MH.
