With a macerator can regular paper be used? What about the small moist paper towels?

the more paper and hair it has to cut through, the duller the blades will get.

Put your regular paper and moist towels in a jar of water and see how long it takes for it to break up.

Although a macerator has a blade to cut up the stuff.......it's not like a garbage disposal.

Use ANY toilet paper that is 'septic tank' safe and as for those 'moist paper towels'.......drop one in a jar of water, put the lid on and shake.
Check it in about 10 minutes......still intact?

Too many incidents of folks posting......'Had to replace the blade', 'My macerator is clogged' etc.

They are a good 'tool' but need to minimize the type of 'stuff' that goes thru them......even hair can be a problem.

I use regular T Paper and have no problems with my macerator chopping it up. By the time it sits in the black tank a few days it runs through like water. Now baby wipes are something else as they will wrap around the blade and shaft and stop the pump. I know.

Do you mean "flushable wipes"? Very debatable. Some say the some of the wipes will breakup, but I have not found the brand that will yet.

Regular paper works fine but absolutely NO WIPES. Unless you like taking the macerator apart. Now there may be some wipes that dissolve but I have not seen any and don't need the problems.

I say better safe than sorry. TP will break up, eventually. It might take adding some water to the black tank, then sticking a yardstick down the toilet to agititate things so it dissolves, but it can be done.

Paper towels? Those don't dissolve. I wouldn't take the risk with a macerator pump.

I've never used a macerator nor have I really thought about it, but reading through this thread, I just had a revelation (yes, I'm slow)... A clogged up pump would be probably close to the worst thing in the world to have to deal with (for me)... I'd probably have to pay someone to fix that mess for me... uggg..

that said, I'd refrain from putting anything down the drain that wasn't specifically designed to be in the tank.. that's just begging for issues in my mind.

I have read a number of TP Break up tests, where they swirl a bit of TP in water and see how long it takes to break up.

The best (Fastest) were usually Soctts single ply and Angle Soft.

The worst Tethford RV and Charman Quilted

The worst took like five minutes to break down.

Think about that.

By the time the most recent paper "Additions" make it to the pump, Even if I jumped and ran without taking time to pull up trousers would be over 5 minutes.

So the answer is: Use what you like.

That said I have seen intact sheets in the clear extension,,, Just not often and to be honest rather easily tore up by the pump.

I have a clear extension before the macerator pump and regular TP gets chopped up just fine, even if it is a relatively intact wad.

Now paper towels I suspect could be an entirely different story. I would NEVER EVER put a paper towel in the black tank. Paper towels are made to stay intact and not come apart and tear because of they way they are used. Some of the better ones really do hold together well even after a long time in water. DW can do a load of dishes with one or two paper towels on occasion. that wad could easily get stuck in the 3" tube, or if it made it to the macerator pump I suspect could bring everything to a grinding halt.
