Traveled from Sacramento to Southwestern Wisconsin and back to Sacramento. Toad: 2001 Toyota pickup. Speed: 60-65mph (55mph in California). Dash Air: ON. Chassis: Ford E450 with V-10 engine.
Distance: 3928 miles. Fuel Used: 433.6 gal. MPG: 9.056.
Impression of rig: We traded is a 2010 Four Winds 25C with the same type chassis. The old rig would get (at best) 8.0mpg without the toad. We are most impressed with our new Melbourne's handling, floor plan, workmanship, features, and appearance. I attribute the better fuel economy to the reduced frontal area, streamlined shape, and lack of the over the cab structure. This particular unit came loaded, but two features are worthless: the side-view cameras and the navigation system. After purchase we added a second battery, Maxxair covers on the vents, and steel valve stems with steel extensions on the rear wheels.

Hey...good for you guys, congratulations on your 28F and welcome to the Jayco Family!
I think the side view camera's and the navigator will grow on you to the point that you won't want to be without it!
I borrowed my brothers Melborne 29D for a 2 week trip up the Coast of California, loved the size..it fit into some pretty tight Redwood Tree campsites, we felt comfortable enough to go thru San Francisco's Fishermans Warf and climb the steep hills.
We were really being picky about the build quality, but as usual...Jayco was well made and well designed. We thought we would be short on storage space when packing for a 2 week trip, but it was fine...amazing! And a big plus...my wife who never towed any of our prior Jayco's actually took her turn driving it and gave a thumbs up!
The Scan Guage mounted on the dash showed our average mileage was higher that I expected and around what you were getting overall. That engine is a gem!
It was about the same floor plan as yours with the addition of a 3rd slideout! We're experimenting around trying to settle on our next Jayco...which would be our #8!

We love our Melbourne as well, the 28f was not available in 2010 when we bought ours. Our handling as it came from the factory was not good, must be the shorter wheelbase of our 26a. The side cameras and navigation were options that we didn't buy. Our mileage has been around 9 as well.

I would trade the side cameras for a rear view camera that allowed me to see the cars behind me to the right and left, as the rear camera basically covers the bumper area only.
Agree the Clarion navigation stinks. We will be using our Garmin or iPad.
I have a 31FS and sure would like tow a toad, but dont know about it. I have very little experience pulling anything. The 31FS is so big, I shutter to think what gas mileage I would get.

We just purchased a new Forest River Sunseeker. We have the rear & side view cameras also.
On ours, the rear view camera is adjustable. From the ladder, I loosened a nut / bolt type thing, moved the camera up in the track to aim away from the bumper a little, then tightened the attachment. The dealer said many of the delivery drivers (plant to dealer) aim the camera to the bumper to see their toad hitch. Not sure if your camera is adjustable but you might want to check that out.
FWIW, we really like the side view cameras. As an example, I sometimes flip the turn signal when pulling into the storage lot just to ensure I have enough clearance around corners, other RV's, etc.

Thanks for posting! Sounds fun!
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Why don't MH manufactures install metal valve stems as they should. These tires are running 70/80 PSI. Rubber valve stems are OK on a light Pick up or car.
Our Aspect came with metal valve stems. Just had new tires put on front. Dealer installed new metal stems also.
On our trip to San Jose and back this year. we also averaged 8.5 to 9.5 MPG.
