Fiamma Shock Absorbers Blew Up!

While lowering my Fiamma box awning to stow it, I heard a loud pop and found that the (patent pending) dual shock absorbers for the awning were gone. I found pieces of them on the ground. Anyone else go through this situation? Now the awning won't roll up and close. I never did like this flimsy excuse for an awning anyway! Your thoughts and condolences would be appreciated. Thanks, Arborist

RE: Garmin 755T truck routing download

Watch out for the RR bridge in Needles, CA. The Garmin 760 takes you right under the 8' X 8" bridge! Arborist

RE: this cat's on his 10th

Our cat went missing for a whole month at the Washington coast in Copalis Beach. She goes in and out of the RV through the forward hatch, climbs up and down the rear ladder. Hasn't been eaten by coyotes or anything else, came close when a barn owl swooped the top of the RV. Now she's pretty happy with her halter and nylon cord. Seems cats and humans can learn? We figure it's natural selection, and so far she has been pretty resourceful not being lunch for some critter. Arborist

RE: Changing belt and hoses on Ford V-10

You Kind of answered your own question. I would have the hardest to replace hoses done before they became a problem on the desert. Not a good scenario, being in the desert changing hoses that are hard to get to. Don't forget extra antifreeze/water. Good luck, Arborist

RE: Dash gauges hard to see.

So you don't like the white letters on black background? No, If you read my post it remarked that with a white background and black numbers you could read the gauges from the toads back window. (a good thing) My E-450 has a black background with red dials. "Overlay kits are available to give your cluster a white background, with red or blue letters" Really, now that would be nice! I don't suppose you have a link handy? Thanks, Arborist

RE: Dash gauges hard to see.

Yep, The Ford E-450 has a plastic cover between you and the gauges. If you drive with your hands on the steering wheel at 10 & 2 your hands and arms cover the oil pressure gauge and the fuel gauge. (another good idea from Ford) On my Saturn Vue toad the gauges have a white background with black markings you can read through the back window of the vehicle! I have a 2006 E-450 and happened to see the new manlier model. The poor gauge setup is still the same! Doesn't anyone here know someone that works on Fords design team? Best, Arborist

RE: Out of country medical cost.

Is it time for Whole World Health Care? Now there;s something everyone could agree on (g) I pay $998 a month for Regence Blue Shield, for me and my wife. What happens when I reach Medicare age? (63 now) Will I still have to pay the full bill to Regence to keep my wife covered? Never thought about the reverse complications for us if we visit Canada and get sick. Thanks for something to think about. Best, Arborist

Here's a example of what is going on in my city. Tacoma's New Parking Permits This is from the Escapees Action Line Forum, both pro and con. It's what happening all over the country because of the few bad eggs you mentioned. And these responses are from mainly full timers. Arborist

RE: Neighbor problems

"Just try and sell your house that is next door to a neighbor that has parked his junk RV in the yard and what goes hand in hand with these type of people is adding more junk trailers, etc. every year, and you will understand why. NO ONE wants to buy a house that has neighbors that have junk all over. This is how bit by bit neighborhoods go down the drain. Which is why there are community rules for no RV's, no Trailers" Well for these folks that have a perfect life and have to find things to complain about, most of us are glad your locked into your perfect community! RE: Neighbor problems

Welcome to the Hell side of RVing. Since you sound new to the possabilities that you may have crappy nieghbors, and city provisions that are ambiguous, heres where I'd send you: Good Sam Parking Rights You either have to move, sell the RV, or become active in this new problem you have. My little bit of hell was having a new metal RV cover for my 26 foot Lazy Daze which the neighbors wife didn't like. My situation is unique however because I only have a front yard. (the house sits on the alley of a 75'X100' corner lot.) The neighbor sued the city planning department for issuing the building permit, and won (you see, according to an overlooked municipal code you couldn't have an accessory building in front of the front wall of the existing dwelling) So it costs me several thousands of dollars for a new driveway, sidewalk, and approach to comply with the planning departments requirements. After I had the RV shed removed (which itself cost $3,4000 dollars) the neighbor stopped his harassment. BTW, the planning department apologized for the mistake, but didn't offer any compensation. So I would start with the Good Sam Parking Parking Right Manual (you have to be a member to get the booklet) to help your municipalities decisions on what direction to take with any further ordinances. Or you could just be the victim and try to work around the problem as suggested by other posters to this thread. Here where I live RV's are parked everywhere without citations. Even on the street. which makes sense since you did have to pay for your license tabs. I hope you resolve your problems and can enjoy the RV lifestyle without further harassment. Best, Arborist

RE: Best company for making free calls from my Apple computer?

If you have a Macbook, yes. My Mac Pro (tower) doesn't have internal speakers. In fact with the MacBook you can use both the internal mike and internal speakers and it works quite well. You just look funny talking to your laptop! Arborist

RE: Best company for making free calls from my Apple computer?

Sound Source is a small app that lets you switch between input / output without going to system preferences: Sound Source So you can have the mike as an input and your external speakers as the output. When you plug in the USB device you will have to set it up in Sound, system preferences once to test the Digital input volume. (1/2 to 3/4 of the way is best) to test the microphone. The Plantronics Audio 400 DSB sells for $79 dollars on the Plantronics site, butI bought mine from Buy.com for $41.34 with free shipping. Here's the link: Buy.com And if you want to test for voip speeds heres the test page: Voip Test Best of luck, Arborist

RE: Best company for making free calls from my Apple computer?

I use Skype 2.8 for Mac (leopard) You will need a usb headset like the one pictured here: Plantronics Since the input on a Mac is for a powered microphone a regular headset boom mike won't work! The Plantronics headset comes with a USB dongle that acts as a sound card and pre amps the microphone. (found this out after trying to use two regular headsets) The sound quality is better the farther away you make your calls to. For $2.95 a month I got rid of my land line and cut my cell minute usage in half. Of course you have to have your computer running to send and receive calls. I get emails when I have a message waiting. Over a good wifi connection, this setup works quite well. Your milage may vary. Best, Arborist

RE: Cab over leaks?

You might want to look at a Lazydaze They were the first Class C manufacturers. The roof and side-walls are all aircraft aluminum. What appears to be front cab over windows are actually black polyurethane/epoxy painted squares that has fooled many an onlooker who thought they were windows! The rest of the rig is painted with polyurethane epoxy paint, which keeps maintenance of the finish low. We have the 26 foot MB (mid bath)with the Triton V-10 which has plenty of power. Keep looking and you'll find what you want. (someone once told me your first RV purchase should have been the second one you bought) Good Luck. Arborist

RE: How are modern class C motorhomes framed?

Hmmm, Lazy Daze uses wood framing but has aluminum for the roof and sides. www.lazydaze.com Arborist
