RE: Fiberglass exterior wall caulking questions

Here's a link to read up about sealants:
Sealants
Granted it's from West Marine, and you'' probably not be waterborne soon, but you will get better results over the long run using a sealant made for extreme conditions, rather than just using a plain silicone sealant. More than once I've had to remove silicone and replace it with a polyurethane sealant. Mineral spirits are used to prep and clean for these products.
I hope the link works, if not just go to westmarine, com and look around.
Hope this helps.

RE: Dump valve lube?

Vaseline;
Put on thumb and fore finger, slide valve open and closed while applying petroleum jelly to both sides of valve. I do this maybe 4 times a year and it works well.

RE: Oil Change

On mine I just put a plastic tarp down after buying one of those $8 oil drain containers. After I'm done I just take the whole mess and drop it off at Auto Zone or one like stores and they recycle the whole thing. (I let them keep the oil drain container, because they do have a tendency to leak) One caveat, when you take off the oil filter make sure the oil filter gasket comes with it. For some reason Motor Craft filters will come off and leave the gasket stuck on the block.
Takes about 1/2 hour to do.
Good luck.

RE: bed over cab mattress

What we did was go to Costco and buy a full size piece of "memory foam." Use a template to see if you need to cut or trim any areas. To trim or cut the memory foam you'll need an electric knife. Found for under $5 bucks, new at a garage sale.
It cuts the foam like a hot knife going through butter.
The wife sleeps and reads up there all the time. It's a little to snug for me.
Your milage may vary.

RE: Toilet problem

We use Pledge Spray on the seal each time we dump before we add water back to the bowl. I don't remember where I got this tip, but it does seem to keep the seal pliable and holding water.

RE: Video Freezing-Up On Laptop

It doesn't look like the javaseuf is going yo tell you what kind of connection to the internet he has. (grin) Probably Dial-Up. Heck, he doesn't even reveal what OS he has. For some reason the folks that want help don't include this rudimentary information for us.
They want us to guess I think.
I'm out of here.

RE: Video Freezing-Up On Laptop

I have 500k of memory but was thinking of going with a gig. Got this in new condition for $150.00 with all recovery and driver discs.
a little "beefy" at 10lbs. but I do like the glass screen, separate number keyboard and have ordered a filter for it to reduce the glare.
Since ram (random access memory) is cheap and the benefits to increasing it is big, I'd look for the largest same speed stick of memory you can put in your machine. Providing you have an empty slot for the memory. FYI, streaming data storage isn't buffered on the CPU or the graphics chip, it's cycled through the Ram. The first part of ram usage is devoted to loading the operating system, and any other application that load on start-up also use ram. So depending on how much ram overhead you have left, determines how well your machine works. As an example if you have the XP OS it's recommended that the minimum amount of ram is 64 to 128MB. If it's Vista, the minimum is 512MB of ram. That's just to load the operating system, your milage may vary!

RE: Video Freezing-Up On Laptop

I don't understand how CNET editor could shoot down the eMachines M6811 which has EVERYTHING better than this laptop except for a slightly smaller screen and then give a High rating to the HP ZD7000 that has so little. This machine is almost a desktop for weight. HD is only 40GB (80GB on the M6811), AGP is only 4X, Memory is only 256MB (Editor killed eMachines M6811 for having "only" 512,
I don't know if this is your computer, it was a review of your model. If you only have 256MB of memory, then that's your problem.

RE: Skype & Wired Broadband?

Well I went with Skype. I got the $2.95 a month plan so I can call landlines and cell phones. Even though I have a 8 Mbps cable connection I used the wifi on my laptop where I installed Skype.
I was really impressed with the call quality. It was a little echo prone but I used the Macbook's internal speaker and Mic. Just curious, when the laptop starts to sleep do I have to hit the spacebar to keep it active? I heard there was a widget called "caffeine," that will do this for me automatically.
Thanks so much for your ideas in helping me make my choice.
They were all positive.

RE: Skype & Wired Broadband?

Thanks for the info! One problem is leaving the laptop on all the time. We have a 26 foot Lazy Daze Class C, so I have to use the dinette when I use the computer. I've learned to put the computer away the hard way. I used to have a 1 year old Sager with XP on it.($3,000.00)
After I set up to check my email the DW opened the upper food cabinet and a can of baked beans fell out and hit the keyboard dead center. Blue Screen, no more usb, no more wifi. So since Apple went to an Intel chipset, I forked out another $2,700.00 for the laptop I have now. Maybe I should look at the ISP (Mediacom) and see if they have a voip system I can use in Arizona. (8 Mbps)
Thanks for all your great ideas and comments.
Hopefully I'll figure this out without going back to Qwest!

Skype & Wired Broadband?

Hi Folks,
Here's the deal: while in Arizona for 6 months this Winter I'll have a direct connection to cable broadband. (wifi at the park sucks) I figure I'll get the $2.95 subscription so I can make calls to anyone and not just Skype users.
I'll be using a Macbook Pro. I guess my questions are is Skype meant to be used by wifi only, or will it work via a broadband connection? Is a headphone & Mic better than a Usb phone?
I have zero experience using Skype, so I thought I'd look at responses before I sign up or purchase anything. After 30+ years we finally got rid of Qwest, and don't miss it at all.
I would like to use Skype instead off my cell phone for most calls.
I've also heard that the Skype beta for Mac is a little rough around the edges.
Thanks for your input.

"I like the electronic version. I'm usually finished with the magazine in half an hour anyway. Just less to toss in the landfill. If they offer an electonic-only option, I'll go for it."
Hmmmm,
I didn't see an option. Maybe when it;s time to renew I'll just scan some money and email those images to them.

RE: Suggestions for on-board air compressor

One Thing,
Those gas station airing stations where you put in 50 cents to get air actually suck air out of a MH tire.
They're made to pump up car tires!
Lost 50 cents and 10lbs of pressure!

RE: 2008 Ford E450 front receiver hitch

Hey, thanks for the info about the hitch. Although I'm looking for front end tow clips. (in case I get stuck)
Don't know why something as big as a class c wouldn't have them, pickup trucks do! Didn't want to hijack this thread, but I will check out Drawtite site.
