Northern Manitoba

Does anyone on here have any experiences in Northern Manitoba? Thinking about a trip to Flin Flon and thereabouts around August this year. Wondering what the attractions are like, fishing etc. Leaving from Winnipeg and straight North. I"m not adverse to a little exploration either. What's the diesel situation like on the road up there? Any and all opinions welcome.

RE: Old Skool Cummins Discussion

Mine tops out at maybe 70mph with 410 gears, 33" tires. LOVE THE SOUND!!! LOVE THE DIESEL!!! Neighgours aren't too hot on the smoke during those cold morning starts though!!!

RE: Border crossing

We crossed into North Dakota last summer and had no problems. We had the proof of the dog's shots with us, but were never asked. We had canned goods, and sealed original packages for dry goods. Bought our meats and the like once we were in the US. Don't carry firewood, or any wood with bark on it. Had a Class C turned around and barred entry for that reason. I use finished wood for my pads and levelers, and there was no problem with those. The Border guy did a quick walk-thru of the trailer, opened a cupboard or two and sent us on our way. No problems encountered.

RE: Diesel Vs. Gas (DID read sticky) Understand differences

I had a Ford gas engine, 6.6l, (400ci), 410 gears and a 4 speed, towed great, 5mpg with the trailer attached. Just bought the truck in the signature below, Cummins diesel, 5.9l, 410 gears, 5 speed, 12mpg with the same trailer attached. Oh, and pay 79 cents per litre or about $2.40 a gallon for diesel. No truck payments, the fuel mileage increase a very big player as a deciding factor to go diesel. Grid heaters come on for cold starts, at -40 plug it in for an hour or so, then grid heaters, and away we go!!

RE: Backing TT up a fairly steep driveway

Yup, 4lo with the front hubs unlocked, works for me each time. Also, great advice on the wheel chocking!! Forgot that part once, managed to run and jump on the Ebrake just before truck and trailer went into the ditch across the road! Now that was embarrassing!!!

RE: What do YOU take out for winter storage?

I wish Ramblemutt, oh how I wish!!!! lol We take batteries, dishes, clothes, towels, anything liquid, any foodstuffs, cans, fire extinguisher, remote controls, batteries, sheets; strip the beds, spray the mattresses and cushions with Febreeze, spread Bounce Sheets, and hope that I winterized the plumbing properly.

RE: I saw this at WM two days ago

I would only guess he is a contractor maybe working in the store… it could also be there is a electric plug at the light pole behind the trailer... Still seems like a strange place to park it… seems like the obvious explanation to me. obviously didn't want anybody parking against the side of his setup. bumpy ...or directly in front or behind blocking him in. People aren't that smart when it comes to parking lots.

RE: Shattered Window

Shotgun pellets? Could be, I was just reading on another forum a guy had found a bullet hole in the bed tool box, through and through, dented the exhaust stack on his passenger side. Who knows??!!

RE: how to tow a 69 chevelle

If I had a '69 Chevelle (nice car!) I'd at least have it on a tandem-axle trailer, but would prefer an enclosed trailer if possible. Although I use a dolly myself, I wouldn't consider it for this application. I couldn't agree more, trailer with car properly secured. I ran a race car for a couple of seasons. towed one season on a dolly, next season tandem axle trailer. That is truly the only way to do it.

RE: Synthetic Oil Change Interval

With mine it works out to once per season, spring/summer to 15-40, late fall 10-30 Rotella each time. Mileage and usage corresponds to the service manual recommendations when compared to exterior temperature. But I don't do that much mileage with the truck, 7500kms would probably be high side of mileage.

RE: DRW in DEEP snow

Parapants, can you explain more why the drive/road is unplowable? What is on the sides to create a situation where there is nowhere to put the snow? How uneven is it? is it possible to blow the snow? How about a "V" shaped plow, would that allow half the snow on each side, maybe work that way? After reading all the posts and responses, I think so far the most reasonable things I've heard are the chains, weight and tires combos. Someone mentionned the Toyo M55s, I have to agree with those, ran them in Norther Alberta, and in Manitoba, great winter traction tire, D or E weight rating as well.

RE: how does an awning w/ automatic rain dump work?

There's another point, was out in Southern Manitoba for a couple of weeks, had storms, rain, lots of wind. The awning spent as much time up and furled to avoid wind tears etc, as it down. I guess I am becoming a dinosaur, if there is lots of rain coming, or a chance of a storm, I put the awning up. Although, when the wife starts getting on "me nerves", with that auto rain dump, "Honey, stand here for a second...." Or, a great opportunity for "funniest videos". Could be an easy way to pay for the vacation!!

RE: Travelling with dogs

I read somewhere that the temperature in the trailer while traveling was a concern. We've travelled during hot weather and when we stop and open the trailer, it is definitely warm to uncomfortably hot. There is a traveling with pets section on the board, look in there. there may be smarter people that can answer better than me.

RE: how does an awning w/ automatic rain dump work?

I dont think I would pay extra for a piston activated auto dump- when I can lower an edge of the awning and direct the rain -where I want it. Good Luck Ditto, I usually set up the awning with one side just slightly lower, that way water flows off and where I want it. I think that may just be a way to get more $$$ for something that isn't neded. JMHO.

RE: Is it just me?

My slide quit working once, looked at the connections near the motor, had one wire that had disconnected. Reconnected the wires and all is good.

RE: Warning To Canadians OOPS UPS

Alas, I too know the feeling of the UPS scr**. Now i order to an address in the US and pick up the parts myself. Last trip $200 worth of stuff, $20 fee to the people where I picked it up, then $20 at Customs. you can also pick up the stuff right at the UPS warehouse and clear it your self if CBSA has an office nearby

RE: F250 PSD 7.3 Air Intake

I used an Amsoil filter, a length of 4" exhaust tubing, painted it VHT gloss black and it works marvelously. Open air filter (BHAF or Big Honking Air Filter) at a fraction of the cost of a K&N rig. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Bouts212/Dodge/P1010170.jpg
