RE: ISL excessive oil from breather tube

On the ISB's there is a failure of the fuel pump that can put fuel into the oil. In mild cases it can look like the engine is "making oil". Should get a fuel smell in the oil. A good shop should be able to figure is out pretty quick. Bill

RE: tow bars

I got a Readybrake last year. I got the one with surge brake incorporated into the unit. Easy hookup and the surge brake works better than the vacuum brake system I have on the old jeep. 8K capacity. Great guys to work with. Bill

RE: Awning Fabric Replacement

I found a guy that made boat covers. Had all mine made for just a little more than the price of the fabric. He helped me remove and reinstall them. Also had wheel covers made from the leftover material. Bill

T105 better than T125 or T145s?

I am looking around to replace my 4 T105s. I came across one dealer(main business was solar installation) that stated that for RV use the T105s would out last the T125 or T145s because they had more space below the plates for separator and plate flak material. Any body else heard of this? Kind of makes some sense since the T105s and T125s are the same dimensions. Have to get that extra plate surface area somewhere. Bill

RE: leaving RV in desert while sightseeing?

Never had anything I have left out take a walk. I've be told that things of value that are easy to do a quick snatch are the most vulnerable, such as portable generators. I've seen some pretty neat ways of securing them. We do leave the dogs in the MH sometime. We leave satellite dish, ground cover, lawn table and chairs out. Bring things in more to keep them from blowing away than walking. Bill

RE: litter

O don’t get me going on this 1. IMHO there will always be trashers. History shows it, look at some of the early accounts at our NPs. John Muir really tried to keep our outdoors clean. By the way those same people are the ones that complain about the rules that try to preserve what we have left. So keep picking up the trash others leave, curse those that left it and hope we can keep up. This is kind of like preaching to the choir. Bill

RE: Were to Camp North side Lake Tahoe?

Will, I have done some research. There are not a lot of places that met this forums definition. But, I did find a casino that has parking for trucks and RVs. Tahoe Bilmore in Cristal Bay as a lot for such rigs. If there are any other suggestion please post. Thanks Bill

RE: Cummins 8.3 and Allison Spare Parts List?

If you don't know about the air-brake system you will need to get up to speed on it. There is an air dryer and other items you need to know about. I think there is an air throttle system in those units that gets its air for the same source. The engine has a couple of thing you need to check. 1. exhaust manifold tend to shrink and leak on that series. 2. the "on" solenoid on the fuel control will get weak over time. Cummins has a service bulletin out on it. you might want to change it if it has been changed. Spare fuel filters are not much good if you haven't got fuel to fill them with when you need to change them. Carry a container with a gallon of fuel for that purpose. Don't forget to cycle it every once in a while. There a lots of other little things you will learn. IMHO things that will stop you in your tracks are fuel and air-brake problems. A friend had a 1996 Monaco Dynasty and was very happy with it. Have fun Bill

RE: Jeep Commander or Jeep Liberty or ?

As implied earlier don't limit your self to certain models of a brand or even a single brand. I personal like the Jeep Grand Cherokee over the others in the Jeep line. Only certain drive trains are tow-able 4 down. As to weight it seems, like vehicles never get lighter with time but your MH should have no trouble pulling any Jeep. Just MHO. Bill

RE: Trojan T105 versus T125

Here is what I have been told about the "T" series of batteries. The T-105 and the T-125 have the same out side dimensions, yet the T-125 has more Amp-hrs. The reason is the plates in the T-125 are longer thus less space in the bottom of the batteries for the residue from the plates and separators to collect before shorting out. This is why the T-125 is rated for less cycles. I was also told that the T-145 has less space in the bottom of the battery than the T-105 but a little more than the T-125. Thus the battery "expert" who gave me this info recommended the T-105 for RV application over the others, in fact he stated that Trogan did not recommend the T-125 or T-145 for RV application. I plan to stick with the T-105 or equivalent when I replace my T-105s in the near future. Bill

Seaward Stove 2273 problem

I have a 1994 Seaward stove (2 burner cook top) model 2273. It works good except the ignition will stay on all the time if you don't wiggle, fiddle, the control valve to make it stop. This is true of both burner controls. I have look at them and think the problem is the shaft is to sloppy in the valve. The brass cam(knob washer in IPC) won't hold the switch in the closed position when the valve is on. I don't see a way of correcting the problem short of replacing the valve. Another way would be to replace the switches on the valves with a manual one. Any suggestion or insight would be appreciated. I don't want to reinvent the thing just fix it. Bill

RE: 2000 Allegro Bay, 35 foot, 260 Cummins, Comments!

Good engine and tranny. The tanny is what make the comb work. Here are some issues with the engine- 1 KDP, that may or may not be an engine with this issue. Google KDP for more info. 2. Exhaust manifold tend to shrink on Cummins B & C engines. Make sure a knowledgeable person looks at it. 3. At the age of the unit a radiator externally clogged with oil/dirt etc is not unusual. I have seen quit a few that the only way to clean properly is to remove form coach. This is an issue with any rear radiator unit. That said the engine/tranny would be low on my concerns when buying a unit of age.
