RE: Wisconsin

I'm not sure where you are at in Wisconsin, but as far as camping goes, state, county, public, private, rustic to full service we have it all, tempuratures that are hard to beat and a pretty decent camp season. Most years, if you like you can start in April and camp until November.
Being just a few miles out of Madison, WI (90 degrees W. 45 degrees N.) I have over 25 campgrounds within a one hour drive. I have told visitors - "base camp near Madison, drive an hour in out in one direction or another and you can find something to do or see every day for a year!"
If you are wondering, we camp many times into November in T-shirts and shorts (yeah, we're a little nuts, but then we are from Wisconsin...)

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally October 9th - 11th 2009

Very nice write up.
Well, it is official. With Homecoming in DeForest the same weekend, we are not going to be able to make the Rally this fall. I may try to stop up Saturday night for a 'slice' of Apple Pie, but we wouldn't be able to stay. I hope for wonderful weather (thinking back to the snow and frozen water lines from a few years ago)and a great time for all! We'll look forward to Spring Rally!

RE: Roasted Corn

The best corn I ever had was at my relatives in Wisconsin, many years ago.
Remove silk and then fold the leaves back around the corn.
Soak overnight in a bucket of water.
Grille. Actually, I think it just steams.
To serve, fold the leaves back to make a handle, then dunk the entire cob into a tub of melted butter on the edge of the grille.
Lean forward so the butter drips on the lawn instead of your clothes.
Speaking of Wisconsin -
if you've never experienced it- this is something to see!
Sun Prairie, Wisconsin will host the annual Sweet Corn Festival Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Angell Park, near the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway N.
For the low cost of $1.00 admission on Saturday and Sunday per person for gate walk-in, attendees can enjoy free entertainment, children's activities and more. Children age 6 and under are free admission, and if you park on the grounds admission is included in the price. Buttons are $1.50 for unlimited entrance to the Festival. Parking is $5.00 per vehicle and includes admission.
Over 100,000 people from around the Midwest attend the event which serves over 70 tons of sweet corn during the weekend! Steamed sweet corn is available on Saturday and Sunday only from noon to 7 pm. A tote of corn is $6.00 and single ears are $1.50. Uncooked corn is available to purchase on Saturday and Sunday for $5.00 per bag.
This event features a carnival-midway complete with rides and games, food booths, live bands, craft show, petting zoo, kiddie korner with large inflatables, family entertainment and much more. Thursday and Friday night are carnival wristband nights for the kids with unlimited rides from 6-10pm for $18.00.
Thursday night kicks off the event with the parade down Columbus Street at 6:30 pm. Festival grounds feature the carnival, booths, and beer tent Thursday and Friday nights after 6 pm. All activities are in place on Saturday and Sunday when the park opens at 11:30 am.
I get there every year!

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally October 9th - 11th 2009

Hi All-
Just back from a nice albeit cooler weekend at Willow Mill outside Rio. I hadn't camped there in a number of years. Pretty decent. We backed up to a group of seasonals, not bad other than Saturday night when one of them kept turning on his 8 gazillion gigawatt flood light to get stuff out of his utility building. It was quiet at night, nice fireworks display.
I did want to give an update on Wagon Trail campground. I found it interesting that their version of the 'desirable' sites were all gravel pads - no grass, just gravel covering the whole site. Hmmmm. Nice place otherwise, other then being read the miranda rights when you check in.
Also finding the F-150 a much much better puller than the Explorer was (big surprise)!
Julie - nice pict of Aaron.

RE: Getting heat to the back bunk

you can buy flexible dryer exhaust duct at home depot and lay it across the floor to the buck when you need it.
it folds up like a slinky for easy storage.
That's what I did with ours a couple years ago. The other way I've explored is tapping into the bathroom duct, putting in a T with a shut off and running that up the back and directly into the bunk. Same result, just waaaay more complicated... :-)

RE: Running lights on trailer while camping

I use the jump wire, but I patched a 12 volt toggle switch in the line. I have the plug holder on my jack stand and then wire and switch slide in the bottom. I'm still looking for a 12 volt timer though so I don't have to go out and shut em down at night. I have the timer on my awning lights but they are 110 volt.
Any suggestions?

RE: Just bought bunk end solar blankets....

Link to Cabelas Sportsman's Space Blanket.
They are $12.99 Each, but the dimensions are not as the original poster indicated (64" x 80"), they are advertised as: 56" x 84". (Maybe they changed the size?)
This is a heck of a lot cheaper than the alternatives, but I have a question... How are you fastening them to the camper, Bungies?
I put velcro on the underside of the door frame lip and the edge of the blanket - put a clamp on each corner and then hold them tight with 3 36 inch bungee cords from the corners down and around the bunk end. Make sure you hook the eyelets with the hooks to the outside from the bungee cords.

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally October 9th - 11th 2009

Really looks nice Dave- Where did you get the kit?
I've always heard it's more work prepping than the actual paint and 'sprinkle stuff'
Still looking for a new house, want to do that to the garage before I move in.

RE: Wisconsin Fall Rally October 9th - 11th 2009

Happy Birthday Julie-
Day late again... I know.
Looking forward to Fall Rally - I'll be contacting Tiff and Myrna yet this week to get a site. Not as many weekends booked this year, with everything else going on.
Anyone have any insight on the Wagon Wheel campground in Door County?
My sister booked our family camp weekend for 4th of July. Just curious, good or bad, recommendations? Thanks! Happy Camping!

RE: '08 Ranger , 2.3 I4 , Popup Size recommendation.....

I'm not condoning anything here - just more of a funny...
I have a 92' Ford Ranger XLT regular cab 2.3l manual trans which did pull a 21' Euroliner Speedboat with an I/O V-8 about 150 miles. Then 2 months later, it pulled a single axle U-haul with about 1000# of band gear almost 250 miles AND back! (both times for the same friends who had just previously roasted the trannys in their Astro Van) All it cost me was a slave cylinder - and with over 120,000 miles on it now, it's still chugging along. (I will side with a previous poster - they don't have enough power to get out of there own way, much less tow anything...)

RE: 3 bed options

I have been completely satisfied with my 232 - the floor plan is great, you don't have any issues with a curb side bunk. Sometimes I like to sit out under the awning after dark and talk - it doesn't disturb the kids this way. Love the floor plan. But here again, I've always liked the dinette as opposed the U shaped seating. Wonderful build, easy to tow, a lot more room than you'd expect. Don't know why they quit building them...

RE: Wisconsin Spring Rally May 8-10th 2009

Aaron congrats on your accomplishment! Here's to a super future!
Mike I have felt the pain... a couple years aga picking pears in the back yard, standing on the second to the top rung on the step ladder (you know, the one that says "do not stand on this step...) The ladder went to the right, I went to the left and we met on the ground...
Hope you're feeling better soon!
