RE: use of outdoor shower when in Boondock mode

I'd like to think they don't give tickets to people who wash dirty cars in CO. If that's the case, it's probably safe to wash your body and I hear you can do it in the nude in Boulder:W
I shower in the nude no matter where I'm at- it doesn't work as well with clothers on:R
Now that's funny right there!! I don't care who ya are.. :)

RE: Cameo 37CKSLS

Hey Joe & Dee,
Congrats!!!! I'm sure you're going to love your new Cameo.
We've been looking at them ourselfs. Went to the dealer and spent around 4 hours looking at a couple rigs. We were set on a Cameo 36FWS they have in stock, then the DW went into the Carri-Lite 36XTRM5 and that was it! We're trying to figure out if we can or want to swing the deal on the Carri-Lite. I'll let ya'll know!

RE: Cameo 37CKSLS

We spent some time with the factory rep at the RV show and he has this model coming through week 3 of production. After offering us $12,000 for our trade-in (we owe $12,000)and other discounts, the invoice price is at $46,580. (If we comfirm at the show...) Is this a good price? The base price was $64K. Shouldn't it have been around $46K before the trade-in? This is the model we were looking at and it is being built...not on the lot.
He is changing some things for us as it is going through production. And throwing in an icemaker and bedroom TV.
DH is leaning towards "yes"...any advice would be appreciated!
Dee
Hey Captain Joe, Sorry, Should be Dee!!
I depends on what options you're getting in the new coach. 2nd A/C, Convection/Microwave, Island counter, Double fridge, TV in bedroom, Generator prep or genset, Astrofoil insulation, etc. With some standard upgrades, that coach should MSRP for $75K to $80K. If you get 20 to 25% off MSRP, you're looking at the mid $50K's for the coach. If you're getting it for $46K, you're looking good!!
That's a great new design. We're considering the 37CKSLS and the 36FWS to buy in the next couple months.. Good luck with your decision..

RE: Thoughts on two 5th wheels I have picked out

Hi there I have a 2010 GMC 2500Hd with the duramax in it I am looking a 2 5th wheels and would like to see what peoples thoughts were on trailers and how the truck would handle the weight. The two I am looking at are the 2010 MONTANA MOUNTAINEER 326RLT dry weight of 10,591 and a pin weight of 2,185 LBS and the other is a 2010 Sydney outback 321FRL with a dry weight of 9,486 and a pin weight of 1,845 LBS. anyone know which is a better 5th wheel and will pull better thank you for any input
Hey Skinner2008,
You more than likely will not exceed your GCVWR, but your GRAWR(per your sticker) may be exceeded. We all know that when that happens you crash and burn and take others with you!! You'll probably need a 4500 to pull those coaches.. :)

RE: OK, it's bugging me beyond belief...

AFAIK trailers do not come with batteries. The dealer puts them in at some point. Possibly this one was transferred in from elsewhere but I would ask the selling dealer to replace it. No loss to the dealer as he will warranty it or stuff it into the next RV :R
Hey Smkettner,
Have to forgive me, but what the h*ll is AFAIK???

RE: Taking DirecTV on the road?

Thanks guys! I have a spare receiver, but I assume I would need another card to use that. I wonder how hard it will be to find a spare HD DirecTV dish?
Hey BigCanoe,
I went on Craigslist and found a guy selling brand new HD Slimline dishes, complete, for $50.00. Bought it, made my own low-profile stand and it works great! Very easy to setup. Usually 5 minutes..

RE: One More For The Weight Police

I've given up on the search for an 07 Duramax. There are none out there that I can afford or meet my requirements. So here's what I'm seriously looking at.
My Current Fifth Wheel:
'95 24RKS Centurian (same as CDN built Citation, Thor)
Curb weight = 6200#
GVW = 7300#
Estimated pin weight = 1100#
The Truck
New 2010 Dodge 1500TRX 4X4, long box, 5.7 litre, A/T, 3.92 gears
GVRW = 6600#
Payload = 1500#
GCWR = 15500#
By my calculations I should be within the capacity limits but it will be close on the payload. It's just me and the wife and the weight of the hitch so we should be okay.
I'll be using the truck 98% of the time as a daily driver and we don't plan on any long trips with the trailer. It costs too much to take it on the ferry to the mainland.
I know that I would be better off with a 2500 but with the extra cost of going to a 3/4 ton and the much higher rebates on the 1500 it works out to almost $9000 more for basically the same equipment. There are no future plans for a larger trailer, this one is more than adequate for our needs.
So,,, without starting any brand bashing :) do my calculations make sense? Any constructive thoughts?
Thanks in advance, Lee
Hey Lee,
6600#'s + 7300#'s = 13,900#'s. With a 15500# GCVWR, you should be good to go. Just take your time.. A 2500HD would be nice, but if you can't, you can't. Make sure your tires and rims are up to the weight rating for the load..

RE: Non Commercial A Test - Help

I've been concerned about needing/getting the non-com A for awhile now. been reading everything posted here - Thanks to all!!!
Just went outside and checked my '05 33WTB Thor Transport 5er. It has a GVWR of 13,500. So I'm safe? I do NOT need the non com A, correct?
My concern is that it's triple axle and the po-po will pull me over just based on the appearance that it is a larger, heavier trailer and ask for the non com A.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
Hey Tony,
Over 10K but under 15K, you do need the endorsment. Not Non-commercial A, but you'll have to take the written class A, but not the driving test. I believe..
The CHP shouldn't pull you over just to check your license. Now if you're running 65+ and dodging slower rigs you may get noticed!!

RE: Overweight

I'm a little confused on the rule, is it 20% under or 20% over gvwr?
Hey Johnrbd,
It's 20,000#'s per axle, or whatever your tires are rated for.. :)

RE: class A non commercial license?

Thank Goodness I moved from Ca.Here in IL all I had to do was drive the guy around for 10 min.No pretrip inspection nothing just a drive "to make sure I can handle my rig"Now as for needing the Non CDL class A.If the combined GVWR of the TV and trailer is over 26,001 Lbs you'll need the class A If under you won't.Thats straight out of the DMV book which has been standardized across the nation acording to our DMV. Oh and my test took 25 min from walking in the door till exiting.
Dale
Hey Dlpmx,
If you're over 26,000 in California with an RV you don't need a Commercial CDL. It's not nationwide and we're not commercial.

RE: Critique my idea for building swivel wheel

I am in the process of building one right now. I am having the mount underneath the camper come up under the bumper, up and out. Looks like a goose neck. Becuase the top of the swivel wheel trailer is 24" to the top of the deck.
Then the swivel wheel trailer will have two spherical rod ends or there called heim joints attached and bolted with a 3/4" bolt. The rod ends will only allow the trailer to go up and down. The rod ends have an 18,000# tensial strengh and you can get them with a grease fitting or you can drill and put one in yourself to push the road grime out. The bearing will keep everything working properly for years. The rod ends are about $15 each so they wont break the bank. I just dont trust a bolt back there without a bearing because of how much the trailer will be moving up and down. That bolt will round out fast.
I am putting the swivel wheels close to center but a little off towards the rear to keep some tongue weight. Double hitch suggests 2x2 3/16 wall steel for the frame. Like Chris said you have to bolt the trailer to the camper so it does not resemble a trailer but rather a frame extension. A lot of states are changing there DOT rules for these things as they are becoming more popular. I posted a link to Florida's DOT website a while back that explaines what they are looking for.
http://www.dot.state.fl.us/mcco/information/recreational_vehicles.htm
For what it will cost you to rent a golf cart at Disney for a week you can build your own swivel wheel trailer. And take your own golf cart which is always more fun then renting.
Hey Emort,
So with the Florida law on the swivelwheel, will you still be under the 40' maximum length on your trailer?? You're adding 5 to 6 feet of length aren't you? Sounds like you're doing well with your build. Keep us notified and we need pix!!

RE: Towing quad trailer behind 5vr in Oregon

There is an Option "C" that MIGHT:@ be the answer. It's the platform trailer, has 2 connections to the trailer frame (drawbar), and has either 1 or 2 swivel wheels. It litterally is an extension of the trailer. From everything I have read, it IS NOT looked at as a trailer by any of the MV departments, just an extended trailer. Might give that a look.
(Sorry, my brain is not totally awake yet this morning).
Lee
Hey Greentow,
I spoke with CHP commercial office in Sacramento a week or so ago about the Swivelwheel setup. They said it's a trailer, so it would be double tow. It has to be licensed as a trailer, since it has a VIN.. Might be able to talk an officer out of it if you were stopped.

Hey Chevyman2006,
Why don't you just buy one of these..

They're a proven system. You'll need the dual rear wheels for the electric cart..
