RE: Golden Age Senior Access Pass Discount

This is really great news to those of us who use Federal lands for our camping... I am extremely glad that the discount will remain at 50% even at private contractor managed campgrounds, since I mainly stay at Federal (mostly at National Forest Campgrounds.... Be careful here, this applies only to National Forest Service. National Park Service and any other Govt facilities using contractors to run campgrounds give no discount for camping.

RE: Camping for $115 a night

I don't ready this as a troll. I see it as informational sort of like "Sort of expensive, isn't it!!) This is, in fact, sort of expensive, at least compared to a $14 or less a night Passport America park. At least at the PA park you can sleep soundly without worrying about missing something for which you paid all that money.

RE: Any developed Family Camp Grounds with Pistol Ranges?

Check the NRA web site. I have heard of such a range (believe it is the mountains of New Mexico) which belongs to the NRA. Friends stayed there and liked it.

RE: Where can I fill the water tank

I have yet to run into any organized type park that accepts RVs that does not have water available somewhere. Call them. There could very well be a spigot with no hose or a garden type hose. Take a potable water hose (they are normally white n color) in case you need it. Good luck with your maiden trip, have fun, and drive safe.

RE: Turlock, CA to Austin, Tx first week of April

AZ 95 is great, I have driven it three times and will do it again next time. I have not driven US 95 but have heard only good about it. Judgement on good or bad roads are in the eye of the beholder.

RE: Turlock, CA to Austin, Tx first week of April

I agree with RUG about route out of Junction but I also think you would be better staying on 58 to Barstow, I-40 to Needles and South on US 95 to I-10 or a little farther on I-40 head South on AZ 95. Good roads and you can avoid Cajon Pass and all the traffic on I-15.

RE: Highlighted words in the forum threads

Maybe the right answer is to NOT CLICK ON THE HIGHLIGHTED WORD. This site is free to us but costs Affinity Group a bunch of bucks. Perhaps they should just do away with the site and save dollars.

RE: Chaco

We were at Chaco this past summer in our Truck Camper. The park campground was closed for emergency repairs. We came in from the North and parked the rig at a non-hookup RV park (???) which was the back yard of a Navajo Indian's home. It was maybe two miles past the end of the pavement, located at the top of a hill on the left (East)side of the road. There was a (handmade) sign. Nothing to brag about but all there was. The road got pretty bumpy farther in towards the park but would be doable with your rig AS LONG AS THE ROAD IS DRY.

RE: A little help....

Do you have the owner's manual for the truck? If so, knowing your truck's engine size, gear ratio + avaialable tow group should be enough info to help you confirm exactly what your tow rating is. I would go with info from the VIN. Owners manuals are pretty generic when it comes to info like he is seeking. No way a users manual could be printed to cover every possibility.

RE: Alaska tour coupon book

The one most often spoken of is the Super Saver. Sold at Carr's (Safeway). We used it and it is great. Just a few uses more than paid the $99.99 it cost us. I apologize. It is Tour Saver.

RE: 3/4 ton truck and mobile suites?

You want a consensus in favor of buying the rig. No help here; I would be lying worse that the salesman. My Carriage has a GVWR of just under 17,000 pounds and I need an F-450 to pull it with.

RE: Quartzsite Veterans a question for you..please ?

Plomosa Road is the place. Running parallel to the paved road are a series of washes. They do get wet and would not be fun in a heavy rig. However, as long as you stay between the paved road and first wash you should be fine. By the way, those washes are mostly very shallow, just a low spot on the desert.

RE: Help the co2 sensor went off last night

You will not smell CO (Carbon Monoxide). If you had no burners operating nor vehicle engine running, odds are the detector is faulty. They do go bad. Remove it and set it out in fresh air for a day or so and retry it.

RE: Driving to Skagway, Alaska

The entire road was paved when we were there 3 years ago. Very nice drive but lots of downhill. Instead of backtracking you might consider the ferry between Skagway and Haines. Haines is a neat place to visit also.
