RE: Dinette Bench Seating or Free Standing Table & Chairs?

A bit off topic... but I am thinking of taking out my booth and putting in table and chairs. How do you store your chairs when traveling?

RE: Verizon new "hotspot" offer

The speed of the downloads has nothing to do with the "hotspot" feature. I find in a good signal area I can get close to 1.5mb speed down.

RE: W-2 vs. 1099

Disclaimer: consult an accountant. Of course being an IC may have other major benefits. You may be able to claim many RV related expenses as business deductions and may in fact show a loss at the end of the year instead of profit which means there would be no taxes to pay. Sole propitiator business losses may offset any personal income you may have from an employer and may further decrease the tax burden from that income.

RE: Verizon new "hotspot" offer

I purchased a Palm Pre off of eBay and transferred it in place of my BB. The hotspot feature is no extra cost. Works well. The offer has been available for a few months now.

RE: Finally happening! China built MHs are coming!

JJBIRISH, There's only (1) one CEO but many low to mid level management under the CEO and gobs as in thousands of union etc workers under the management. From Forbes: In 2009 Financial Industry bonuses totaled well over $20 billion. By one calculation, this sum breaks down to $137,000 per banker. For middling executives with eight years on the job, bonuses average $625,000, 15 times the average income for American households. If only auto workers, unemployed real estate agents and most of the rest of us, who are struggling to make our mortgage payments, had it so good. You still haven't told us if you offered to give back the benefits that you got because of union bargaining?

RE: Finally happening! China built MHs are coming!

Are you (or were you ever) willing to give up your vacation pay, your sick days, your pension, your employer paid health insurance and your overtime pay while working for 70% less money? Did you ever offer to give those back for the good of the company (and country) you worked for? Please tell us why not? Those were things that the dirty unions fought for yet benefited everyone. Funny how people like to blame the unions but sit back and gladly suck up the same benefits that they got on the union workers back :) Sorry, it makes me sick that a CEO can run a company into the ground for 2 years and get millions per year in "retirement" for the rest of their life while a worker that puts their whole life in for a company is expected to get nothing back once they are spent and worn out after 30+ years of work. No, I am not a union worker. I once was 20+ years ago and worked in a factory it is doubtful most people would have lasted more then a day in. It was one of the best paying jobs in the city, a job coveted by most. We had many new hires come in that lasted less then 4 hours. 100+ degree temps. working underneath punch presses hauling hot, sharp scrap metal for 10+ hours per day. In an average 10 hour day a worker would haul well over 20 tons of scrap metal. Or how about making Ford I-beam front suspension parts. At 80+ lbs each, each station had to handle them twice. Each worker was expected to produce 8 per minute for a total of 3600 per day (didn't hit quota, you got less pay).... that's handling 500,000+ lbs. of Ford I-beam per day. We were lucky, we had some windows and it was normally lower then 90 deg. in the building... unless you were stationed by the dock in the winter when it was down around 40. Sure, not all jobs were like that but you started at the bottom and through seniority you worked your way up to better positions. Did I have cushy positions? You bet! The last two were running CNC machines producing fuel control systems for jet engines. Most likely if you ever flew in the 80's this union worker helped make the "carburetor" on the jet engine of that plane. Maybe I should have been making 70% less pay with no benefits :) The last was in an advanced R&D lab where we developed a brake-by-wire system for electric vehicles. Yes, back in the 80's Ford, Chrysler and GM were working on electric vehicles. Chrysler's was an all electric mini-van, Fords was an electric utility van that used a turbine/genset to charge the batteries. Worked there until they downsized so they could show big profits and then sell off the divisions to other companies.

RE: Decal Removal

Also, I would recommend that you visit a local sign shop or a shop that does auto graphics. To replace my decals with new OEM decals would be close to $700 and would be the same crappy vinyl used originally. Aftermarket vinyl decals are made with much better quality materials (10 year warranty) and won't cost any more to have done.

RE: Decal Removal

I just removed mine. Some came off easily in the hot sun. Others I had to use a heat gun to soften them enough so they would not rip as I removed them. Took maybe 2 hours on each side. The "mountains" took as long to remove as the rest of the decals. I tried liquid decal remover (messy) and an eraser wheel (too time consuming and leaves residue). Used some 3M adhesive remover to get rid of any glue left behind. RE: Finally happening! China built MHs are coming!

Ah, yes, those darn unions. Like your 40 hour work weeks, overtime, safe working conditions, holidays, company paid health insurance, pension/401k, paid vacations and sick days? You may have never been a member of a union but they got those benefits for you. You should thank the unions.

RE: vendig machine repair tech

I know that Xanterra has a couple at YNP. The one I knew lived in the dorm so not sure if you could stay in your RV or not. http://www.xanterra.com/employment-information-348.html

RE: Winegard carryout GM-1518 question??

They will work as well as any dish. If you can't see the sats, you won't get a signal.

RE: How do your stabilizers attach to the trailer frame ?

I also have an enclosed underbelly with the frame not easily accessible. Mine are bolted to the landing gear outer tube on one end the foot on the other. X-Chocks to stop fore/aft movement. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_SPluhq2V0ns/S0Uue7uboGI/AAAAAAAAAVk/RkhXuB7Z-rs/s1600/DSCN0147.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_SPluhq2V0ns/S0UuJr9voCI/AAAAAAAAAVc/G8gk0YZK1bc/s1600/DSCN0149.jpg

RE: Winguard Carryout® GM-1518 Automatic Portable

They work well. Once you get it all setup the first time all you need to do is after that is set it where the southern sky is clear, plug it in and you will have a signal in a few minutes.

RE: Those with TST Question

Temps at lowest setting. Pressures are 10% under and 25% higher then the cold pressure.

RE: Winegard carryout GM-1518 question??

I have the Carryout and really like it. Just set it out where the sky is clear to the south, plug it in and you have a signal in a couple of minutes. No looking up sat positions, aiming, etc. If you use Dish Networks you can get all their programming (SD and HD) with the small Carryout.... it will not get HD on DirecTV. HD dishs on tripods are very large and balky. I've only had it a few months but I understand that it is more susceptible to rain fade since the dish is so small. If you have multiple receivers (I only have one) you can only watch programming on the same sat with each receiver.

RE: Oxygenics Shower Head - No Water Savings?

In my test I timed how long it took to fill a 2 gal. bucket. It took 3 minutes with the showerhead set about 1/2 open which is the setting I normally use when showering.

RE: Oxygenics Shower Head - No Water Savings?

I know mine uses less water. With the original showerhead the pump would stay on. With the Oxygenics the pump cycles.

RE: Snowbirds - Summerbirds?

There are many in MI that do monthly or seasonal rates. But there are very few "resorts" located in the state. Most are more rustic and don't have many of the pools and things that many associate with a resort. But then many are located on lakes and you have the great MI wilderness at your doorstep. It is not uncommon to find seasonal spots for under $2000. http://www.doublerranch.com/ http://www.spauldinglake.com/ are just a couple that I have been to.

RE: Hemi towing

I towed 7700 lbs 5th wheel for 5K miles last winter (3.73 rear gear). From MI to TX to NM and back. Was a very comfortable drive for me. A few times I had to run it at 4200 or so RPM through NM but it easily maintained 50mph and I was passing semis up those hills. Going 62 on the flats it ran ~ 1800RPM, slight hills would downshift to about ~ 2400 RPM, bigger hills dropped a gear to ~ 3000 RPM. Only time it ever dropped another gear to ~ 4200RPM was going up the mountains to Ruidoso. OK, let me backtrack a bit since I just remembered my day trip (not towing) from Terlingua to Presidio. I believe one grade on that trip is 15%, really had to scream to maintain 30MPH up that one.
