RE: Lost my sweet Roxanne today...

I am so sorry to hear about Roxanne. She lived a good long life. My cat looks almost identical to her. You are in my thoughts.

RE: It's official - just reserved at Teklanika CG in Denali NP

We took our 39 foot 5th wheel pulled by our Dodge Megacab into Teklanika in 2008. We had no problem find a space. We did have to use our slider hitch just to get into the site but the site was plenty big for our trailer and truck.
It is a great trip. I do miss Denali since we moved.

RE: Branson MO

We live about 30 miles from Branson, but haven't lived here long enough (only about a year) to take in everything yet. Some of the best in my opinion are: Dixie Stampede, Showboat Branson Belle, Silver Dollar City has good shows included in the price. The Circle B Chuckwagon show is good. My mother-in-law said that Jim Stafford is a good show. The Titanic museum is very interesting as well as the Shepherd of the Hills tours.

RE: 45 Foot Class A too big?

We have a 39 foot 5th wheel and pull it with a Dodge Megacab. We never had any problems going where we wanted while we lived in Alaska.

RE: Portable Fire Pit

This is what we have for our 5th wheel. It isn't too large, and comes in a carrying case.
Coleman Firepit
Same one we have, got it at Branson at the Coleman discount store for $45.
We actually bought ours while living in Anchorage Alaska for 80. The Wal-mart site was the first one that popped up.

RE: Some general Alaska questions:

If you want to stay in Denali park, I suggest reservations. Also don't overlook US Forest Service campgrounds if you can do without water hookups and elec for a few days. Some of the best ones are Portage, AK (Williwaw Campground, Porcupine Campground in Hope, AK, and Quartz Creek in Cooper Landing, AK. The one is Hope only has like two spots for a big rig but the others are no problem. The City campground in Seward is a great spot for camping. It is right on Resurrection Bay. It is first come though.
We lived in Anchorage for 8 years with the military and just moved back to the lower 48 last summer.

RE: So, how cold did it get where you are?

We were at 9 at about 9:30 this morning. My daughter just returned yesterday from a week in Alaska and they were warmer than we have been here.

RE: Advice needed.....staying in 5er in winter

We lived in our 5th wheel last spring in Alaska. The first night in the RV it was 12 degrees. We went and bought some electric heaters. You have to keep the one in the rv on so that things don't freeze underneath but you will really save on propane supplementing with the electric ones.

RE: USAA experience...

Our 5th wheel is insured by USAA directly. We bought it in March 2008. I have also wondered about why some are sent to Progressive.

RE: Strange town names...!

I grew up in a town called Old Glory, Texas.
For the Christmas season, there is a Holliday, Texas, and when we lived in Alaska, we liked to visit North Pole, Alaska.
I live near Sparta, Missouri now.

RE: Cleaning cigarette smoke?

Well when I searched for an article on third hand smoke, I found many. I apologize for posting it although information about third hand smoke was taught to my students by our DARE officer and a parent who is an RN provided information to me about it as well. So it is not just this article that is out there about it, google it. I again apologize.Well in a few years I'm sure there will be fourth hand smoke.
Maybe so, who knows. I guess an example of that would be hugging someone with 3rd hand smoke clinging to their clothes and then taking those toxins back home to your kids. But anyway I digress, as far as my first response to the OP, I just wanted them to be careful while cleaning up their new purchase so they didn't get sick. I do apologize for the third time to the smokers that I have offended with my post. I am done with this post, I do wish my best to the OP.

Third hand smoke
Be sure that you wear protective gear while cleaning. The smoke residue on the walls and in the carpet are toxic. Interesting article.

RE: How many nights out this year

We have about 73 so far this year in ours, but we did live in it for two months after we sold our house in Alaska waiting for school to be out.

RE: Tips for Staying warm

When we were in ours waiting to move from Alaska, we bought two of the Lasko (upright) portable heaters and they worked great. So much so that the furnace would not hardly come on. This was in temps that were in the 20's, during April of this year. This is similar to what we used http://www.laskoproducts.com/heaters/model_5130.html

RE: 2 weeks in Anchorage-What to see

Be sure and go to Seward and take a Glacier cruise. Seward was our favorite spot in Alaska. It is about 2-3 hours south of Anchorage. They have several hotels and B&B's there.
