RE: MPG Sweet spot

My old 190HP has a sweet spot somewhere in the 55-62MPH range at 2250RPM. Usually I'm going 60MPH and with over 51,000 miles of record keeping, I'm averaging a solid 10.1MPG. 21,000 lbs., no toad.

I had very bad OEM's on my rig and did a lot of research here on the forum and several other forums and decided that all the hype around Koni's didn't wash.
Seemed like most who bought them and raved about them were deluding themselves into believing they were the best thing since flight, probably because of the cost. I just bought Bilstein's and have been happy with both their performance and price. Saved hundreds over the Koni's.
I do have to mention that all the times I have bought new shocks, for many cars over the years, I've rarely noticed a significant difference in ride or handling. I guess you must need a calibrated butt for that.
JMO!
PS The Bilstein's OEM version shock has a very poor reputation but their after market shocks seem to be far superior.

Just a note that a good inspection by a qualified house tech/mechanic will run you $300-$500 but is well worth it. Do not ask a dealer for someone, use the net to check the yellow pages for independents. I have found them using the local free paper/paid ad weekly, like a Thrifty Nickle or similar. Then call them and get a feeling for who might do the best job. Nothing substitutes for personal experience so you could call local RV parks, talk to the staff about qualified individuals they might know.

I did much of that trip in a 37' Class A in the dark and other then the sweat inducing narrow roads through the redwoods, it's a nice trip. No need to worry.

I spent the past 3 summers and 2 winters in Alaska and I just used my shades. You get use to it in short order. I also ran an RV park there for those 3 summers and don't recall anyone complaining that they couldn't sleep or buying something for it.
But I agree Tinstar has a great idea. Just wait till you get up there, if you find you need something, there are plenty of Home Depot's and Ace Hardware stores in Alasaka.

Don't have a DW, but whenever the parking is tight I'll prevail on someone to stand near the spot the rear of the RV needs to be on the drivers side. I'll go out and check clearances on the passenger side. Then follow the helpers directions. Usually, I only need to know that I'm not going to deep into the space, straightening up later is easy enough, and it's then I use the backup camera.
In the dark, it's really helpful to either have a helper, well lighted power/water/sewer area or a really wide & deep site (if you can't have a pull though).
Failing to have one of those three can easily mean a dented rear end, a broken water pipe, a ruined power tower, or other damaged piece of park equipment, like a picnic table on the passenger side patio.
I hope RV park owners read this thread, LIGHTS ON THE POWER-WATER-SEWER area at night are very helpful and prevent damage to the campground facilities and our RV's! And if you have lights, check them once in a while to be sure the bulbs aren't burnt out. Thanks.

I just zip tied a plastic jug with wide mouth to the end of my slobber tube under the engine. After 4 years it has around a quart of oil in it. Time to empty. Keeps oil from being blown back to the toad area and off the rad of course.
I like Wolfe10's extension, I'll try that with a jug on the end if I can place it in a convenient place while keeping the tube running downhill. Right now I have to crawl under the RV to empty or remove the jug.

After you've had it checked and gotten a quote, since you're in Texas, you could save a ton of money by going to Mexico for the repair, if that's an issue. Many good mechanics, right across the border from McAllen, TX comes to mind. Ask here on the forum for names.

Why does the 'stop hole' have to be drilled on the outside of the glass? Seems it would be better if you didn't have access to a repair kit to do it on the inside.

I crossed into Palomas 1-14 AM and went east on Mx2. No problems as the interchange onto Mx45 is way south of Juarez. Hardly any traffic. Roads are OK. Only complaint in the 3.5 days of travel to Chimulco RV park is the large Quotas required in some places. It was hard to find an ATM at many Pemex stations. One that I found didn't accept my cards but a station attendant was nice enough to run a tab for $400p for me. I kept running out of pesos. And not because I was buying anything either. One quota was $233p! I only had $2000p to begin with. Finally was stopped at a quota station around $100p short so spent the night there. Talked to a cop and found the nearest ATM was only 5k away back on the libra road. So it worked out.

Heading to Guadalajara within two weeks...

and will be crossing at Palomas, MX.
Taking Mx2 east over to Mx45 then south.
Anyone want to Caravan? My first stop plan is in Chihuahua and all stops are at RV parks.

I've boondocked at several 24 hour Pemex stations. I like the stations where there are several trucks parked. Where there are truckers, don't expect to see bad guys. One Pemex on Mex175 had showers, a cafe, pool hall, TV, computers. It was busy all night and I felt very safe there. Next morning I was kind of boxed in and I had to wait 1/2 hour for some trucks to head out but overall a great over night spot.

Progressive has bought several smaller insurance companies and we're all paying for it with higher premiums that drift up faster then inflation. I was with Aon Insurance until Progressive bought them out. Now my rates are higher with a lower agreed upon value.
What I like about them is that they have a real RV policy. I don't think State Farm does.
The question isn't really about who has the lowest rates, it's who does the best job when you have a claim! That's all that matters.

It's not your valve stem that is leaking air, it's the valve CORE. Valve cores can be purchased anywhere they sell autoparts including Wal*Mart. Simply unscrew them and screw the new ones in. You need a tool or a special slotted cap to do so. Very cheap to do. Pics below...Dennis
This is true, except there are different strength springs in different types of cores. Look for a 'Heavy Duty' or 'Super Duty' valve core for this application. There are differences, for instance, heavy duty have larger sealing surfaces. They can be found at a truck shop or truck stop. The kind sold at most auto parts stores or at WalMart are more suited for auto & bicycle tires.
And of course you can find cheaply made cores or well made cores that cost more, but still under a buck. Just pressing on the plunger should tell you the difference.
