RE: Dogs Foot Protectors

Yes, the burrs are there - yes, sometimes the dogs pick them up in their feet. But mine always let me know the instant it happens so I can find it and pull it out. I wouldn't say it is an overwhelming problem in our park in Alamo. Perhaps it is other places.

RE: What is a "slickputt"

Never heard of that applied to a kitchen tool. It is a golfing term - google gives several examples.

RE: Gonzales' Hamburgers

There is no sign on the building. It has an all glass storefront with the door in the center and, truthfully, it doesn't look like a restaurant at all from the outside. Silver St starts on the east side of the town square. But don't be at all reluctant to go there - in this case, looks are deceiving!! You order at the counter and they call your name when your order is ready. In season, it is very crowded from 11:30 till 1:30-2. They oopen at 11 - close at 3. You may have to share a table. If you are there before the first of Dec, eat one for us!!

RE: Towing saturn Vue 2009

Why is having the headlights on at night a problem? Ours are lit all of the time - no problem at all.

RE: Washer-Dryer Combo

I've had a Splendide since we got the coach in 2003. I much prefer doing the smaller loads then putting the clothes away immediately to going thru the laundromat routine and spending an entire morning doing it. Besides, I know what was in the machine last!! Definitely get the vented model.

RE: Bitten by Stray Dog

As a veteran of a few severe dog bites, I say go to the Dr now. Most likely all the bite site will need is a good cleaning and you will get a script for antibiotics. However, if the dog can be caught, they will put it in quarantine to be sure it does not have rabies. If it cannot be caught, you may have to take the rabies treatments just to be on the safe side.

RE: Previewing Posts before Uploading?

I would agree with that - don't know that I was aware there was a proofing option.

RE: Crime in Rio Grande Valley, Texas

No more there than any where else. There are occasional thefts of bicycles and small stuff. One resident in our park had his truck stolen last year - what we were told was that they were unloading groceries, left the keys in, took a break and bingo! Just use common sense about stuff.

RE: Class A or TT

Also in the stress category - it is much easier to setup/break down a MH than a TT. Altho your budget will severely limit your choices in MH, you just might get a bargain what with the economy, etc. Some friends of ours sold an older well-maintained MH just a couple of weeks ago for near that amount.

RE: Inside wall hole repair

I used the end of a curved srewdriver handle to depress the edes of the holes just a tiny bit, then applied spackling and smoothed it while still damp. I painted over the patch using craft paints - they come in a zillion shades & colors and you can sort of texture them with your brush if needed to blend in. And the paint is about a $1 a bottle. You can get the paint at most Walmarts or craft stores.

RE: Cable tv for winter Texans

Time Warner seems to be the only cable service in the area if you want to go that route. They have an office in McAllen on Dove St - East 900 block, I believe.

RE: Awnings Cost

The patio awning fabric would be somewhere in the $1500 range, if you have to replace the arms & roller, add at least another $1000. The smaller awnings: fabric about $500-800 each plus rollers if needed. Labor would be in addition.

RE: Blood Test Mania!!!

IMHO and the majority of the vets in this area, it is not necessary to test for heartworms that frequently if you have been faithful in giving them the preventative meds. The most I've heard recommended is yearly or after a period of their not receiving the meds. (Giving them the preventative meds if they have heartworms can be fatal, I'm told). You can get preventative meds w/o prescriptions if you know they are heartworm negative but I wouldn't consider this without first having the heartworm test done. There are some conditions that require a blood test to diagnose correctly and/or if the level/effectiveness of certain meds/conditions needs monitoring, more frequent tests are required and I can certainly understand that.

RE: Do you stay at the same park every winter, or???

We return to the same park. We were at one for 5 yrs and this will be our 3rd winter at this one just a mile from the first park! We changed parks in order to have more activities and a larger lot - still return to first park to visit friends and spend an occasional evening playing cards with them.

RE: shade for skylight

RV suppliers have a foam pillow type pad that fits tightly into the skylight but can be removed just by pulling it out. Or cut your own foam pad to fit.

We stayed at the CountryAire - nice enough that we would do it again. It is not fancy, has all pull thrus, nice staff, easy access to interstate.

RE: Bed to Sofa

I think most jack=knife style sofas are not really very comfortable when foklded out. You might look at the MagicBed folding sofa - much more comfortable - or there is an airbed style, too. Check to be sure there is nothing under the bed that cannot be moved and that you can get the mattress out the door. Unless you replace wih a made-for-RV sofa, you might have a problem getting a new sofa in, too. Measure carefully!

RE: Colonial white, or just white?

colonial white is a slightly creamy shade of white, polar white is as white as it can get, plain white is between these two. Hope this helps.
