RE: Chaparral 299tsb review

Camper is very shaky – I guess this may be for all fifth wheels? Would not know though since this is our first. Let’s just say, when you are having sex, the whole campground knows. Looking for a way to make the camper more solid ) The best cure is to stop making "whoopie"! Sorry, couldn't resist! I have found that the heavy steel fifth wheel pin box tripod stabilizer is an reletively inexpensive fix. We have a Ultra-Fab, and as I type this we are sitting in a Campground, and when I set up the other day, I did not set up the Ultra-Fab. I powered down the front legs, cranked down the rear stabilizers. But the wiggle was still there! So my wife reminded me about the tripod, now we are sitting firmly on the terra firma! What a difference...Ultra-Fab has the heavy steel one, and a lighter weight aluminum one as well.

Love your post!!! I will definitely look into getting the Ultra Fab. Thanks for all your other advice also.

Chaparral 299tsb review

Hello - I have not been on here for a few months, but my family and I have had a chance to camp in our RV. Love the camping, a bit disappointed in the camper's workmanship though. Someone wrote me about our camper so I thought I would post the letter on here in case someone else out there is interested.
- Hello,
-
- First, yes there is a tv/cable hookup in the bunk are. The bunk area is very nice and roomy - we really like it and so do our boys. I had to buy a step ladder though from Walmart so my 11 year old could get up on his bunk. I also put a toddler gate on his bed so he would not fall out.
-
- Overall I feel that for the money we spent on the camper it was put together - (excuse me for the language) - "half ass" as my father would say. We have only been camping in it for a few times am I am already creating my list of things that need to be fixed.
-
-First
- the TV antenna had to be replaced because it was broken
-
The others:
-
- bunk area was not screwed in properly and had to be fixed
-
- shower door stuck - not aligned properly
-
-
These things we noticed and were fixed by the dealer before we went camping.
-
-
Now that we have camped in it a few times we are noticing:
-
-
During a 3 hour drive to our camping spot the entire blind fell off from over the couch. We then noticed that it was screwed in to almost nothing. Poor workmanship.
- -
Dinette area lost it’s side cushion panel – (It is for looks, does not make the dinette unusable) Again, though – poor workmanship
- -
Dinette area table is also shaky. The pole that holds it in is not very tight.
- -
Shower leaks on the bottom. Trying to figure this one out??? I am going to try to caulk it since we have it parked in a seasonal spot until October and will not be able to have it fixed until then.
- -
Screws have been falling off the cabinets and drawers left and right. Again – poor workmanship
- -
The mattresses in the camper are just plain awful.
- -
Couch bed is the most uncomfortable thing in the world. We have to carry a foam topper with us so my dad can sleep on it. We have also put a foam topper on all of the other beds in the camper.

What I like:
-The layout is very nice and I like the two bathrooms
-Thank goodness the air-conditioning and all electrical components are working.
-The central air conditioning is nice, but for some reason the master bedroom is always warmer than the rest of the camper.
-Very nice looking camper
-Camper is roomy
-Camper handled very well in transit
-Camper has great storage
-Would I get a coachman again? If I did I would definitely pull on things to see if they come loose or come apart. I would also check all screws and such to see if they were put on properly. I would also run the shower for awhile to make sure it does not leak.
-I just found that our particular camper seemed to be put together very quickly. I know all campers have their quirks, but for a brand new camper I feel that these things should not be happening. I am glad that we have a great dealer who will fix all of these things for us. I will also make sure that they are fixed within the 1 year warranty period. We did buy the extended warranty, but there is a copay with that.
