RE: Crock Pot Recipe for Beef Roast

I use boneless chuck roast with as much fat trimmed off as possible. Season with S & P, seasoned salt & ground garlic. Sear in skillet on med high heat until both sides are brown. Place carrots and potatoes, peeled & cut up in the bottom of crockpot. Add browned roast on top. After removing roast from skillet, add some cold water to remove brown stuff from skillet and pour over roast. I also usually add an additional 1/4 - 1/2 cup more water to it too in addition to what I put in the skillet. Top with one large cut up onion (or more to taste). I also salt & pepper potatoes & carrots after putting them in pot. Cook 4 hours on high, or longer on low. I really don't know how long to cook it on low as I usually cook this on Sunday mornings for lunch while where at church. The house smells wonderful when we come in the door!

It's 67 this morning

Boy, after our 100+ days this summer, it's 67 degrees this morning! It's supposed to get up to 95 this afternoon but that's not 105-107!!! I'm really going to get the bug to go camping now! Now just have to get DH to commit to a weekend date. I love cooler weather & fall camping...or even not camping!!!

RE: Acer Laptop from WM

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I was able, with your help, to connect to wifi this morning! It's amazing what "geeks" expect you to know, but how can you know if they don't tell you or you don't know to ask! I appreciate everyone's "simple" answers. They made sense to me so I was able to know what/how to do. Thanks again! (I may be back with more questions in the future!)

RE: Acer Laptop from WM

Depending on Network configuration, you could have to enter a password to connect. At the bottom of your screen, you should see a signal meter. This is your Wi Fi signal. The higher the bars, the better the signal. If you right click that icon, you will see a popup that says connections. Chose the network you want to join from the list and click connect. If you need a password, it will prompt you to enter a password. Then click connect. It will also give you the option to save that configuration so you don't have to type in the password every time.
Thanks! Will try this, but have another question...Is this how I will connect everytime or will I be able to click the IE icon and connect in the future after doing your steps?

Acer Laptop from WM

Ok, we bought this Acer laptoplast week. (There is a link down the page to the mfgs. specs which I printed)
I cannot figure out how to connect to Wi-fi. Does the computer have to be registered with Acer before doing so or should I just be able to take it to a wi-fi spot and it will connect? I finally found something on the computer about hitting the Fn button with the "communication" button which seems to make it active, but when I took it to work where we are supposed to have wi-fi, it still wouldn't connect. I haven't go to McDonald's yet! May have to.
We've never had a laptop or any other wireless computer so I'm in the dark! Any suggestions in layman's terms will be appreciated.

RE: Cloudcroft, NM camping

I have been camping at the Silver, Saddle, Apache camping area near Cloudcroft, NM for nearly all of my 36 years now. I was just curious if anyone here on the forum knows when these campgrounds were built or any history on them. Thanks
Do they have a website? We've talked about getting away from this TX heat and have friends who've gone to the Cloudcroft area. What is the actual name of the campground? Thanks!

RE: Inexpensive laptop on sale.................

Well, I played with it some tonight...I was intimidated by Win 7 but it seems ok. Now need to check out the wi-fi @ Micky d's soon...and need to see about copying some files from desktop and see if programs are compatible. We're using an "older" version of Works so we'll see what happens with some documents..probably Sat..busy every night the rest of the week.

Windows 7

Just bought this laptop tonight and am not familiar with Windows 7.
Any tips and/or websites that are easy to understand anyone can suggest to learn how to navigate? You know what they say about the unknown...I'm scared! TIA!

RE: Inexpensive laptop on sale.................

Our store had 5....Now they only have 4! :B:B:B
Thanks for this post as we had not gotten the store ad in the mail!
Whats the scoop? Do you like it so far? Is a store ad for a specific store only? I'm due for a new one :S
I'll have to admit, I haven't "put it together" yet(it's 9pm in TX and I don't do well with this kind of project at this time of night so I'll tackle it tomorrow afternoon after work), but looking at it and the paperwork with it, I think it will serve our purpose! DH needed something to put his music on and I wanted one to take camping. I like that it has webcam, it is loaded to use wi-fi, plus the DVD/CD burner/player.
Did you find it on the Wal Mart link provided? If not go to Wal-Mart.com, find the "Local Ad" at top of page and go from there. Hope it's available in your area if you're needing one and they still have some! I called our small local WM and I was very surprised they had any at all. I decided to go get one before they all disappeared.

RE: Inexpensive laptop on sale.................

Is this on their website or in a "sale" ad? If in an ad they may not have many available, but it sure does sound like a good deal.

I'm not retired, but am a sleepy head ...I'm not a morning person, but I cannot sleep past 7:00 when I have the opportunity. Just get up, drink my coffee, watch the a.m. news & read RV.net until I'm awake!

Set weekend to camp

DH & I have said we need to camp at least once a month and then it seems we never do, so I had a thought this week. I think we'll set the last weekend of the month to go on a short trip (w/in 60 mi) so I can come over after work on Friday and leave on Monday morning. My thinking is that we'll have that on the calendar and if something else comes up, we'll know we already have something planned. It will, of course, depend on the weather...probably won't go much in summer as it's just too hot here (am hoping to escape to CO/NM next summer some!) and maybe not end of Jan & Feb. although we have gone on New Year's eve for the past couple of years.
We also have several other couples that we camp with from time to time and we're going to let them know our plan. They'll be welcome to go with us anytime. If we want a weekend away by ourselves, we'll just have to add another trip!

RE: Lucky me

My DH finds things all the time, freight straps, tools, etc...and it's usually in the Dallas/N. Texas area. He found the light that we have in our entry way on the side of the road brand new in a box. There was a lot of new home construction in that particular area and the box did have some info on it. He tried to contact someone but was never able to, so we used it!

Colorado weather

I'm tired of the hot Texas summers and am wondering how far north into CO does one have to travel to get to decent summer weather? I understand that there will be some warm days, but I'm tire of this continual Hot!!! Appreciate any suggestions but don't want to travel any farther than necessary to reach comfortable weather.
