RE: Lowering the floor.

Any out there ever had to raze there cabnets? or at least the work areas around the sinks?
the way things are right now, I get to live in my camper, and stooping to was dishes, brush the teeth, etc. sure not much but if possable to lift them about 3 inches to save on the back.
any thoughts out there????
I would use a 10 lb sledge hammer! :B
(raze = demolish. As in to raze an old building.)
Now if you want to raise the cabinets, I would imagine you could build a pedestal frame out of 1x4 lumber to put them on.

RE: What weight dist hitch are you using on 17-21 foot HTT

I use an Equal-I-zer hitch with the 600# bars for my 18 footer.
It's noisy (pops and bangs), but it works.

RE: SAVE WA STATE PARKS... PLEASE READ!!

To date, no state has never closed all their parks during hard times, not even during the GREAT DEPRESSION.
New Jersey tried this ploy two years ago, Illinois tried it last year (think the did close a few). They threaten to close something near and dear to the public in order to get them to "compromise" by agreeing to higher taxes on something else or higher road tolls, whatever.
I think if any governor had the nads to actually close the parks for real, he would be committing political suicide.
During hard time, the parks are often the ONLY affordable outing for many people. Take that away, and they have nothing.
By all means, write you letters, picket the state capitol, etc. You HAVE to play the game. Just know that they aren't REALLY going to close the parks, and be ready to accept whatever "alternative" tax increase they throw at you.

RE: Honeywell Inverter Generators

I just registered for this site after looking for info on the Honeywell inverter generators. I won a Honeywell HW1000i on ebay last night for a little over $300.00.
It seems that the discussion have gotten a bit off topic... Honda. Onan, Yamaha, Robin-Subaru (Rebadged or not) and believe it or not Kipor, all build great generators. Other than Yamaha, I own at least one off each. Don't get too tied to one brand for every application. They all have their good points. The Honda is the most quiet, the Kipor KGE3000i is actually my favorite, the Onan is my most trusted (might outlast the cockroaches and trots along at 1800 RPM), the Robin-Subaru I use daily for work, the Honda will always start (but not always my Airstream AC).
In any event, I'll give the Honeywell a good workout when it arrives and let you know what I think. I suspect it won't match the rest but I've been surprised before (The Kipor ).
OMG, I've never seen a for real generator junky before! So how many generators do you actually have? What do you use them all for? :h

RE: Green Ball Tires

I have many thousands of miles on the TowMaster (Green Ball) radial ST tires on my HTT with no problems.
Also had two sets of Duro tires on my previous PUP with no problems.
Never checked whether either brand said "Made in USA" on them, and frankly, don't care. If they don't go "POP!" before they need replacing due to age (5 or 6 years), they are a good tire.

RE: Dumping Gray Water

Grey water is designated as hazardous material by the USEPA! Contains many obnoxious things - body oils, deodorants, sputum, food particles, soap residue and on and on.
Please do not dump it into the open! Use a dump station or a legal sewer system!
USEPA....:R:W Yeah, I will take the gov't advise.
I can't find it right now, but somewher I have a PDF document from the EPA that PROMOTES the use of greywater for irrigation and such (aka, dumping it on the ground). And many federal and state government agencies doe exactly that (OMG, they are breaking their own laws! :E) in parks and public areas.
The local and state greywater laws were written decades ago when all soaps and detergents contains massive quantities of phosphates. They are no longer valid for the INTENT of the law, even though they are still on the books (like those old laws that forbid you to ride you pig to church in Sunday).
If your "greywater" is too dirty to dump on the ground (full of food, gease, etc, then it is sewage by definition, not greywater. The name of the container is meaningless, it is the CONTENT that matters. Believe it or not, if I fill my blackwater tank with fresh, clean water, then open the valve and let'er rip on the ground, I am NOT BREAKING ANY LAW!
So I will continue to dump my clean, food-free GREYwater on the ground as recommended by the EPA guidelines. Unfortunately, I have to do it after dark because of nosy, ignorant, busybodies that believe a horrendous crime is being committed. :E
For those of you who say, "the law is the law, no matter how stupid", I'll remind you that many states still have laws on the books stating that it is against the law for married couples to have sex in anything but the missionary position (Virginia is one of them). So I'll be peeking through your RV windows at night to make sure you are following THAT law too! Hey, the law is the law, no matter how stupid, right? :B :B :B

RE: Some generator questions...FINAL UPDATE!

Those of us with Champions like quiet toooo. Just look at those folks who are busy trying to quiet them so we can be happy camper neighbors with the Red and Blue lucky folks. Many other threads are offering ideas that might help lower the noise just a little. Be patient with us, we want to camp along side you blue and red foxes. Maybe we can build a 'Pyramid' and go down in history.
I can sell all of you a "quiet kit" for your loud gennys. The original kit came with 1/2 mile extension cord, chain and lock for your genset. Due to customer feedback I now only offer the 1/2 mile extension cord and hope someone steals it!!:p
Zing!!! Good one! :B
Old & Slow, yes, compared to a Coleman Powermate, even a Champion seems quiet, but it still isn't a quiet generator. I've heard them at the campground and they are no where near as quiet as my Yamaha (which I wish was as quiet as a Honda 3000, the ultimate in quiet).
And whomever stated that at full throttle they are all the same, also not true. The Yamaha at full throttle is still much quieter than any non-inverter generator with no load on it. No matter whan the "numbers" say, you can readily hear the difference in the campground.

RE: Some generator questions...FINAL UPDATE!

Well....I found a deal on a 2008 ef2400is Yamaha genny.
So I decide to go and check it out, and see just how quiet this genny
is, compared to my Powermate.
Well I posted two videos, one of the powermate and the Yamaha.
Powermate
Yamaha
All I can say is wow.
Anybody wanna buy a powermate?
Good choice, you are now a member of the people who get berated by the owners of loud generators trying to justify their purchases.
Welcome to the quiet side. :B
I have the same model generator and I've been very happy with it.

RE: Dometic Fridge thermistor-Up or Down to Cool?

Hey mouse, why would you remove the sensor from the fin? Also, fan in the back would help move air up the back of the fridge. That is how it cools, check the area in the back for clear ventilation.
Rich
Removing it from the fin (which is cold) moves it to a warmer area, the fridge will have a longer cycle and get colder.
Yes, a fan in the back helps move air. The tech just said it makes no real difference unless you are in a VERY hot climate. Don't know if he's correct or not, just glad he told me instead of blindly selling me a $60 fan kit that may not be effective here in the northeast.

RE: True/real battery capacity

If you were to actually drain you battery down to 10.5 volts, you would most likely be left with a useless chunk of lead.
I don't understand why you keep saying that,
you've NEVER EVER left the head lights on, and run down the battery on one of your vehicles, jumped started it and have the battery last for several years after ward ?
even with a starting battery, it won't be ruined by ONE dis-charge cycle
what will kill, is 'running the battery down' by trying to start an engine that won't start, because the heavy currents of the starter will warp the thin plates. forgetting to turn off the headlights will drain it, but NOT kill it.
and deep cycle batteries can do it many times, like 100's of times some very expensive solar batteries can with stand a 1000 or more full discharge cycles.
Well, that's true, but many people think it is okay to do all the time, not just that occasional "accident". Like those that constantly run their single battery almost dead every night running the furnace. Theyt kill the battery prematurely where the real solution is to get a second battery.
Let's face it, 99% of the battereis on RVs are NOT the industrial type that you are talking about. They are plain old marine/RV batteries that will take very few deep discharge cycles before they die.

RE: True/real battery capacity

The actual amp hour capacity is based on running the batteries down to 10.5 volts.
Sam
True, the actual capacity as stated on the battery label.
However, this has absolute nothing to do with the USABLE AH capacity, which is around 1/2 the label rating.
If you were to actually drain you battery down to 10.5 volts, you would most likely be left with a useless chunk of lead.

RE: Mileage on BFG A/T KO ?

I've gotten about 41,000 miles in 2 years and they are ready to be replaced, in fact, over due.
What kind of mileage has anyone here gotten?
I got about 70,000 miles on my last set on my previous vehicle. I rotated them regularly and didn't drive like a "hotrod4x5". :B
Unfotunately, BFG doesn't make a tire size for my present Dakota with 18" rims. I'll go with Goodyear Silent Armor Wranglers when the piece of junk OEM tires wear out.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I should mention that the tire rotation included the spare. That adds 1/5 more milage. A spare that just sits rotting on the back of a truck is the REAL waste of money.

RE: True/real battery capacity

What's your REAL LIFE, ACTUAL method, if any?
This is not intended to be a smart or sarcastic answer - but it will probably sound like one :)
You measure the time it takes using a "normal" battery load until the propane gas alarm connected to your 12 VDC battery pack starts beeping.
I am an EE and have read and taught most everything imaginable related to batteries. This is the best answer I have for RV use!
BTW - I have two 127 Ah AGMs on the house side and four of the same on the auxilary/inverter side. (606 lbs of added weight). The AGMs have given me the best overall performance of any battery I have ever used.
Also not a sarcastic answer...
At what voltage does the propane alarm start beeping? If it starts at a 20% SOC, your test just significantly reduced you battery life, especially if it is a "marine/RV" glorified starting battery. :E

RE: Dometic Fridge thermistor-Up or Down to Cool?

I removed the thermistor from the fins completely and clipped it on the shelf next to it.
An RV tech told me that placing one of those battery operated fridge fans directly below the thermistor will greatly increase the cooling.
He also told my that those fans that mount on the rear of the fridge are a waste unless you live in Arizona.
All I know is my fridge doesn't get very cold in the summer heat. I'll try anything.

RE: Pop-Up Gizmos....help for a newbie please!

Before you go plunking down all that money, consider that a pair of Solar blankets fit 99% of queen sized bunk ends plus or minus a few inches (remember, you are keeping out heat not rain, you don't need a PERFECT fit).
A pair of Popup Gizmos - around $75.
A pair of Solar Blankets plus clips - around $30.
For the $45 savings, I really don't care that my solar blanket overhangs by about 4". In fact, it's a BENEFIT.
Solar blankets and Popup Gizmos are made from the SAME material.

RE: What bed liner is best? spray or pre-formed

Hmm, the drop in liner collects water underneath it?
Don't know about that as my bed has DRAINS to let the water out.
Seems to me the spray-in liner will PLUG UP those drains. NOW you have a water collection problem! :E
As far as truck owners being "sissies" for wanting to protect their investment (no matter what method), what's wrong with insuring that the part of the truck that takes the most abuse lasts as long as the REST of the truck? An unprotected bed will rust out and become useless long before the rest of the truck wears out in non-commercial use.
There once was a day when people who couldn't afford a CAR bought a PICKUP TRUCK becuase it was the cheapest (price wise) vehicle on the road. These days, pickups are often more expensive than even the fanciest luxury cars. It's just plain stupid not to try to protect them.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, I have a drop-in liner. Don't see any issues with it.
