RE: The high cost of attending RV events...

Just 'cause I can't afford something doesn't mean nobdy else can. Me? I took the advice that all the fulltimer advocates talk about,.....I spent most of my money during my entire life, living life to the fullest while I still could. Little did I know I wasn't going to be one of the guys who have a heart attack and die,......4 months after retirement! Now, I count every 10 dollar bill. I wish I could say I can recall a whole lot of great memories. I found out that most old people do not have a good memory....:B Yep, life is not always fair. Count every ten dollar bill? I thought it was you and your wife in the pic of a new Caddie that I saw the other day. Guess I was mistaken.:?

RE: ALCAN-Canada & Firearms-Gravel Pits

I am very surprised by this. In all the years of the 'gun threads' on here I always had the impression that the only way that you would get a handgun permit, is if you could prove that you were taking part in a competition. Is the gun sealed in some way? do you have to produce the sealed gun when you leave Canada? Is it possible that they think the gun is a rifle? I can't believe the last one, but it is run by the government! I agree! This is what I have always understood also. One must be going to a competition to import a handgun.

RE: Oh wow nice way to lowball someone :P (RANT!)

This is the funniest thread that I have read in a long time! Everyone here expects thirty percent off on an RV, more if old stock, which translates to tens of thousands of dollars! New cars and RV almost never sell for the asking price, but new generators generally sell for the asking price. Would you walk into Northern Tool and offer 30% off on a generator marked at $999? Do you really think they would take it? For me personally, I am never insulted by a lowball offer to buy something from me. I just delete the response or email back with a polite no. The potential buyer has probably purchased stuff in the past with low ball offers. We are not talking retail. Do you always pay asking price at flea mkts and yard sales.

RE: ALCAN-Canada & Firearms-Gravel Pits

If you took in handguns, you were very lucky not to lose your rig! Canadian handgun laws have had very little change in over fifty years.

This is the funniest thread that I have read in a long time! Everyone here expects thirty percent off on an RV, more if old stock, which translates to tens of thousands of dollars! Yet the OP runs into someone trying to save a couple of hundred bucks and gets all insulted! Guess there is no understanding human nature.

RE: Going through Canada

As it is impossible to take hanguns into Canada, I recommend that the wary American traveler stop at the first village and barter,(a great chance to use those smuggled ciggies)for a bow and arrow set or even a blowgun! One word of caution, if using a blowgun and you are attacked by a grizzly(watch out, grizzlys are common alongside the trails and pathways that pass for roads in Canada), be sure to blow really hard!

RE: RVing and the economy

This thread is amazing to me! Why would anyone even think of owning a RV without a savings/retirement plan well in place?

RE: Coating for Carlisle Brite-Ply EPDM roof membrane

Check the Brite-Ply site. I dont` think that they recommend coating until aging or wear is showing. I believe that the material carries a twelve year warrenty.

RE: Eternabond Seal Tape 3"width?

Is there a real difference between Eternabond and other brands? Or are we, as so often happens paying twice as much for the hype?

RE: Do most people finance or pay cash for MH????

I am always amused by those who claim outragous returns from investments. The average financial planner and investment manager is hard pressed to equal much less beat the market, thus the popularity of index funds. Yet here it seems, we have numerous people who achieve returns far above the market averages. Warren Buffet should be so lucky!

RE: Going through Canada

Do yourself a favor and buy a carton or 2 of Marlboro reds before you cross the border. You will be amazed at the bartering value of real American Marlboros. A carton is about $25 at the border, they are not sold in Canada and cigarettes are $120+ per carton there. I have traded 3 packs for a bottle of unopened Grey Goose Vodka with another boon docker in the middle of nowhere, gave them as tips (choice made by service person) and as tokens of appreciation to repair guys, etc. They are appreciated - a lot. Yeah, okay smoking is bad, but people still do it and Marlboros are a rare commodity. Iris Yes in addition to the cigaretts, bring along a few beads and shiney trinkets. Posts like the above, which picture Canadians as a bunch of backwoods rubes, really burn my butt!

RE: Must own home in Canada?

You must be careful. If you ever get denied entry for any reason, it is quite likely that you will never be granted entry again. You will be red flagged in their computer system and will have to go through hoops to get in. This is true!. The person at the booth (American border) can turn you back for any reason at any time! There is no recourse, no applying to someone up the ladder. This is my greatest fear that someday, we will meet a border guard who is having a bad day and be denied entry for little or no reason.

RE: Must own home in Canada?

Tell them to look at you license plates. We're becoming a world without any common sense. First off your are tied to Canada by your health care so just show them your latest doctors statement if that don't show them you plan on coming back mothing will. Good idea exept, in forty years, I have never been offered or seen a doctors or hospital statement.

RE: State of the Industry One year later

Yet, for every good thinker, there are a hundred who still advocate mortgaging their future for gratification to-day. Ten percent down, twenty years of payments, pull the equity from the home, what sort of madness is this?

RE: Do most people finance or pay cash for MH????

I had some stock in a company that was worth about $100,000 last September and today it is worth about $700,000. Things are truely bigger in Texas! The stock rose from one hundred thousand to seven hundred thousand in six months, And the poster is waiting "for the market to go up"!

RE: Waiting on the call back....

I am with TerryAllan. I dont` screw around with these games. If I see what I want, I tell the dealer/sales person,"give me your best price, if OK, I will buy right now, if not I will walk" The last pickup that I bought, we were not on the lot ten minutes before signing the papers. I was in sales, not automotive, many years ago, the dealer knows to the penny his bottom dollar, the "negotiations" are simply window dressing.

RE: RV Roadside Insurance? - Canadian

Be very carefull with CAA. That is what I intended to buy. After talking to the salesgirl and her supervisor, I decided that the service was not what I needed. We have had Good Sam for ten years, so far have never needed them.
