RE: US Drug Problem

The clandestine US growing operations are staffed and guarded mostly by illegals, not locals. Makes the problem even worse, IMO.You need to do some research on CA and the PNW. The folks that grow and guard the fields are not mostly illegals, they are mostly locals.

RE: ATVs

Those licensed in Idaho, and those from other states with reciprocity with Idaho, can ride on most paved roads and all unpaved roads in the state. However, there is or at least was some significant differences in the laws between ATVs and UTVs, which the Polaris Rzr falls under. I know Utah and AZ offers reciprocity with Idaho and they can be ridden on some streets there also.

RE: What if your accelerator pedal on your DP goes postal?

The first thing I would do is shift to neutral and forget about the revving engine. I am amazed to read the crazy stories about people calling 911, riding the brakes, etc when all they need to do is shift to neutral and brake to a stop.IMHO, it's all about how much can I sue for, nothing what so ever about a problem with the vehicle, as the facts are now pointing to with the Prius incident in S CA. There may have been an isolated incident, but most of the reports are looking for money, nothing else, so why worry about what to do, unless you're broke.
Yeah. after all the years Toyota has denied having a problem. I REALLY believe them now.:S
BTW the guy has not ask for a dime, and the speed cop saw him trying to stop the runaway. Did you really expect them to admit to making crappy cars?Have you seen the guys finances that have been posted on the internet:h Not a good picture for a person to claim problems.:S

RE: What is the best brake buddy

We have a 13 year old square box BB that works very well. It is set to panic mode only and satisfies the law, in those states that do require one. The older BB like ours can be bought on EBay from time to time for well under $150.

RE: Mexico Auto Insurance Brokers Business Down

I was in a Mexico insurance office in Ajo AZ this weekend and they are crying the blues big time. Said that on the 1st weekend of spring break they had normally written 60+ policies by that time of the day and so far this weekend they had written 16 and all the offices in Ajo were reporting the same thing. the US is doing a good job of killing the Mexican tourism economy, with their sensational type reporting instead of a more broad based type facts. Setting here in Mexico, enjoying the people and wonderful living.

RE: CW Unwilling to Honor Advertised Price

Interesting, but the ad is not a Camping World ad. It is an ad by the manufacturer, Ultra-Fab Products, Elkhart, IN. IMHO, CW has been falsely accused. Not really Tom. It was printed in the "official magazine" of CW and their editors approved the ad, so CW would have full knowledge of the contents, including the "advertised" price. If they use that as the disclaimer, then they are in an even worse light for company management.

Bill, as already shown by a post, some think our years of experience in the field is total BS and we know not of what we say. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people in the RV community on here, that have a total disdain for Law Enforcement, as is shown here.

RE: Arizona State park closures

while AZ government is closing parks and rest areas, reducing monies to schools and municpalities, they are giving pay raises to themselves and increased benefits. Not one mangement employee has been layed off or demoted, in fact several departments have increased their management ranks as a way of rewarding some of the faithful. Their cash crunch is at the top, not at the lower levels.

RE: GVWR Discrepancy on Monaco - advice?

Monaco is still in business though some would like you to believe otherwise. Call the tech services at 877-466-6226 and ask them this info. You must have the last 6 numbers of your FIN(Factory ID) and they will have all kinds of info for you.

RE: Price for a DP Oil Change

1st off, Speedco is not $209, for your engine/chassis it is $149. we use Speedco and they check all fluids in the system and change all filters in the system with Fleetguard filters. With upgraded XL oil filter plus the 2nd fuel filter, the cost is $165. the cost to do your generator is $45, so the total for your coach, with generator service would be $210, or with a new air filter it would be $270. We are very satisfied with the service we receive at Speedco.
A coach with 2 fuel filters is over $200 base at Speedco (total of 3 oil or fuel filters). Check their website.
I had up-charges for the primary fuel/water separator and for a CAT secondary fuel filter (the 2 micron filter). Then there are oil reclamation charges, etc. My total bill, with sales tax in Ohio, was just over $300.
But they did all of things described above - coolant test, check level in differential, transmission, front oil bearings, as well as tire check (even measured and noted tread depth on all 6 tires). Also the fan hub zerk, reached from under the bed. Full Chassis lube.
They worked clean, had no problem with me watching, and I was impressed with the professionalism. I'll go back next year. You got caught by one of the stations that do NOT know their own pricing and think of RV's as big trucks. Here is their current price list and on the left is says Straight Truck & RV Services and under that it says, Medium Duty PM……………$149.99 Up to 2 Fleetguard oil or fuel filters Common Engines: CAT C7, C9, C10; Cummins ISC, ISL. couldn't be much clearer than that. They do charge $10 for the 2nd fuel filter and $6 for the upgrade XL oil filter. If you were over charged, call their home office and give them the invoice number along with your VIN and you will get a refund. If you need the persons name to talk to and the number, I believe I still have that also.
I think you got off lucky. The total number of filters changed on my coach during an oil change/PM is three. One oil filter and two fuel filters.
Which location did you use? I wouldn't mind getting lucky, too. :b
But I will try calling them. I have never turned down a refund. :WI have used the Fernley NV and the Casa Grande AZ stores and the price has always been $149. With the extra fuel filter and the upgrade to the 9009 XL oil filter, it is always $165. The Fernley store tried the $209 and I told them to call their headquarters in NJ and get the true price. The manager came out, looked at the invoice and told the gal to change the price and showed her where to look for the RV prices. Believe me, if you paid the $209 for the base PM, you got ripped off, unless your engine is the ISM/ISX or the C13/C15.

RE: best tow 4 wheels down

It all depends on your needs and desires. We towed 3 different Suzuki's and a Saturn SW2 over the years and then moved to our current toad. IMHO, this toad is the best we've had and very easy to hook and go. The ride is far superior to a small SUV and you have the benefits of a truck.

RE: LED tail lamp assemblies

Some LED's require a resister installed so that the flasher will work. I have also seen that many of the Chinese LED lights have a very short life span. In a matter of hours some of them begin losing a few of the LED's. You may start out with a 10 LED light and within an hour you have a 6 LED light.
If you go to LED's go with a good quality unit from a reputable manufacturer that supplies them to the trucking industry. Do not waste your money, and safety on cheap units from China, or anywhere else.I think you need to take a trip to the 75 Chrome Shop, a major truck supplier at Wildwood, FL. Check out their LED lights and tell me where it says it is made on over 95% of their LED lights. I've been there and checked, then ordered mine from the same country, China and have not had an LED fail yet.

RE: Maverick Ranch RV Park Lajitas (Big Bend)

Being among the 1st folks that ever stayed in that park, as a guest of the owner back in 2002, I find this interesting. The then owner, Mr Smith of Excel phone company fame, was trying to market it as resident owned lots for $100K each. He also owned and built the the entire town, including the Jetport with its 10K long runway, east of town. The golf course and its one green in Mexico, was a novelty, but I think that has since changed, along with the closure of the low water crossing to Mexico. The mayor of Lajitas, the drunk billy goat is also long gone, I hear. Mr Smith went bankrupt a few years back and I haven't heard who bought it and is trying to resurrect the town. Very interesting town to visit once, but not a place to buy a Condo or RV lot, IMHO.

RE: Sidekick/tracker toad owners ('92)

When you get done installing the base plates and hanging the Stowmaster on the front end, take you car down and have the alignment checked. You are putting approx 50# of unsprung weight several feet ahead of the front axle and this can cause problems on some cars, especially the Tracker/Sidekick. Been there done that with a 96 Sidekick JLX. Yes, the base plate install is a very simple procedure on them, I did mine in our driveway.

RE: Can you really leave your RV at Walmart while sightseeing?

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the new WM in Goodyear AZ for about 20 hours while visiting friends. I went into the store and spoke to the GM who was very nice and said, "stay as long as you like, we just ask that you park on the east side towards the rear". when she walked out with me and saw where we had parked, her comment was, "you have the premier spot for your RV, have a good visit with your friends". If town ordinances allow, most WM stores don't mind as long as you talk to the manager and park where they want you to. It is the ones who pull into the front of the store and block an entire row or an entrance, that will ruin it for the rest of us, not the ones who ask permission and follow their directions.W-Mart went to the city of Goodyear before they build this store and had the city of Goodyear call the area a blighted part of town,( a man had a restaurant and bar there for years) they used the law of taking the mans land, then Goodyear sold it to W-Mart for this store. Sleep well in this lot for the night.Yes, I enjoyed my sleep there.....and your point is:hI guess for those who can't get buy paying for a real camp site, it is better than losing the rig.In that area there is not much of a choice. I did not like what I saw for available CGs and our friends live at Pebble Beach, so we stayed close by. I will NOT pay to stay in a DUMP, as some so called CGs appear, regardless of where it is or how low the price. The night before we had stayed in Surprise at a very nice CG called Happy Trails, nothing to do with being cheap, as you imply.

RE: Little confused - propane overfill?

TEXAN
The OP asked about over filled cylinders, not motorhome tanks.
And foolishness? That just shows your ignorance! Nobody said the "only safe way" was by weight....it's just THE safest way! The second, and still safe, best way is by monitoring the 80% valve. What is not safe, is some yahoo filling by gallons. First off, without knowing the tank weight there is no way to know if the tank is indeed empty. If that same yahoo trys to put 5 gallons on top of an existing gallon, in a 20 lb tank, there is going to be a problem! Knowing the weight would show the presence of existing fuel and would be filled accordingly! So, maybe " the majority of LP stations in the US fill by gallons, not weight" statement is true...although I doubt it...but that doesn't make it right and it definitely is UNSAFE!
Your motorhome tank has to be measured by gallons and is (should be) filled by monitoring the bleeder/80% valve. Of course there are morons that will hope for the auto-shut-off to think for them. Unfortunatly, not all motorhome tanks are equipped with auto-shut-off fillers, so an untrained gas monkey could still overfill your motorhome tank!
Ah, K5OIT certainly did in a previous response I have pasted here:
"If the tank filler doesn't use a scale, move on. It's the only safe way".
Thanks Steve, just shows how many post, without bothering to read what was said previously.

RE: FL route 301

Be careful of your speed, as there are several towns that rigidly enforce the speed limits, but the are NOT speed traps, as they have huge signs several miles before the enforcement areas. Also as you approach a change in speed limit, the signs are very well marked, so just be mindful of the enforcement areas. The small shopping mall on your left at the intersection of SR-326, where you turn towards I-75, has a very good seafood restaurant called St Johns Seafood. Plenty of parking on the south side and well worth the stop, if around time to eat.
