RE: Medigap and under 65

OP - DW is disabled and has had a medigap or equivalent policy since she was in her early 50's. The process is soooo simple. Go here. On the left side, click "Find and compare Medigap policies" icon. Then answer the 4 questions posed and click "Continue". It will bring up a page of all the medigap plans available and sold in your county. Just above the table of plans, you will see a link "Show only policies available to people under age 65". Click on it and you will have your answer.
You can view the details of each Plan by clicking on the appropriate "Details" link. When you've selected the Plan that makes the most sense for your health needs and anticipated 2010 usage, you can click on the details for that Plan and on the right side of that details sheet will be a section "Where to buy a policy" and clicking on that link, you will be provided a list, including Plan Name, web links, phone numbers, addresses etc. of all offerings of said plan in your county.
To the second poster - Mike. A Plan F is a Plan F no matter where in the country it is offered or by whom. These are standardized plans though not all plans are offered by all companies in all states or counties. Prices for a Plan may, and usually do, differ in the same company dependent on which county you are in. So the best priced Plan in county X of state Y may be the worst priced Plan in county A of State B. So, like above, put in your zip code etc., follow the links and you will see who offers Plan F in your county and by checking their web sites or calling, you will find who has the best price. Since the Plans will be the same, the only things you need to compare are price and reputation - i.e., "Fly By Night and Gypem Ins. Company" may have a lousy reputation for prompt payments to medical vendors and therefore it might not be the best choice even if the lowest price.

RE: Help needed finding big rig campgrounds for 5th wheels.

We've been FTing 13yrs - the 1st 4 pulling a 36' 5vr and then the one in my sig. We've only been unable to get into a site once and that was because there was no location on the site where we could get the slides on both sides open. Have not had a length issue either with a site or with access. Our only source of cg info is Trailer Life, Escapees directory and RVParkReviews online. Surprised to hear of your difficulties in that with the better wheel cut of a MDT over a p/u, it is so much easier to maneuver truck and trailer. Perhaps this combo is still new to you??

RE: Florida

To be honest, I don't know what the office gets for monthly rental. We don't rent ours out so I don't really pay attention anymore. I do know it varies depending on which month you're interested in - Jan/Feb/Mar being the highest.
Yes, owners do rent out their lots. Those owners who don't want to be involved in the rentals, remittance of tourist taxes etc., turn their lots over the the rental office which handles everything for a %. It is through the office that 'walk in' and nightly rentals are handled. Most of the weekly and monthly rentals are done through the office as well. Other owners rent direct. For the most part, I think, those direct rentals are seasonal. The property owners maintain a website and there is a link on the left side which takes you to a page where owners will 'list' their lots for rent or where parties wishing to rent can make direct inquiries.

We're partial to Silver Lakes Golf & RV Resort in Naples, FL. Not exactly sure what amenities or price ranges you're looking for. I have some pix of the park linked in my sig.

RE: Barron River RV Park - Everglades City --- comments ?

If that's the park I think it is, it was destroyed by H. Wilma and, as of last season, was being, very sloooowly, being rebuilt into a high end, motorcoach resort. Haven't been down to EC yet this season so don't know how it's progressing. Suggest calling.

Your Rv will not be safe if winds get plus 50 mph. You're kidding, right? Sure agree with the tornado call.

RE: Problems with an oversized tow vehicle

I've never thought of the 1 ton as having that heavy of a suspension however if there is a major mismatch with a really heavy truck suspension continually is bumping a hitch up when the rig's tongue or pin is coming down or vice versa the hitch is being forced down as the rigs tongue or pin is trying to come up, it will create stress somewhere and I suspect the weak spot might be some of the rig's structural welds especially if they weren't designed to be over matched.
One of the reasons why MDTs and HDT often tow with air hitches or the like and add weight to the bed or behind the axle.

RE: Something's digging under my tires

The balloon sounds like a good idea. We had an armadillo 2 yrs ago dig a new home on our lot. I bought a box of moth balls a dumped a bunch in the hole and some around the entrance. Seemed to work for us. Thankfully it wasn't that close to the rig that I had to smell the mothballs all the time.

RE: Do you stay at the same park every winter, or???

This is our 13th yr of FTing and we wintered in the same park for the first 6 yrs and then in our current park since then. DW has medical problems (18th surgery in that time coming up in 3 weeks) and though we love the area and balmy weather, our primary reason for returning is the familiar faces in the 'body shop.' Because we are in the mode of returning, we bought a RV lot in our 1st location and again in our current location. Makes returning without worrying about reservations easy.

Not having had both, I can't give a comparative opinion. We've had our Trailer Saver air hitch for 9 yrs now and it is flawless. Good luck with your efforts to find someone who has or has had both.

RE: Unexpected problem with Goodyesr tires

I've also had what Paul described when I put new steers on my truck. GY told me it would disappear quickly but if I wished, they'd put the new tires on the rear for awhile till they 'broke' in. I let it ride and within a week, all the wander was gone. Had it again later when I put Bridgestones on as new steers and within a week they too were 'normal'.

RE: Need your thoughts!

Excuse a non MHer answer. You can never have too much room. Slides not only give extra room but they also change the character of the space - from sort of a tunnel to a real room.
Sure you read of some problems but if you make your decisions based on that, you'll take the rubber off your wheels and ride on the rims. Perhaps no problems are crabbed about more than tires. While you're at it, you probably would want to minimize your risk by taking the motor out of your rig as well.
I think if you were to count the number of posts about a slide problem and divide that by the number of slides in use, the ratio would be small indeed. We've FT'd 13 yrs now with slides. That means using the slides in one way or another 365 days per yr for 13 yrs. Have had one problem in all those years and that was a burned out slide motor. Pulled the old one (took one wrench), got the number of the mfr., called them and had them Fed Ex a new one overnight and by noon the next day, the problem was history.

RE: Morgan RV Resorts Contact Info

You are making the assumption that I care whether or not they clean up their act. I don't. There's a lot of fine parks out there and Morgan isn't about to buy them all and screw them up. Actually, there's actually one good thing about Morgan - they're beginning to give KOA a good name. :B

RE: Route 17 S.C.

Can't answer your specific question but a month ago it was a great route for a truck and a 40' 5ver - always has been too. What problem are you anticipating? You give your length but there aren't really any hairpin turns. The lanes on 17 are standard width and there are no low bridges.
