RE: CO-Glenwood Springs to Colorado Springs bypassing Denver

From Glenwood come east to Copper Mountain and turn south on 91 to Leadville, then 24 all the way into Colo. Springs. This is probably the easiest route. Fremont Pass to Leadville is an easy on. Others will suggest taking 24 from Minturn junction ( just east of Vail) thru' Leadville etc. to Colorado Springs. This route takes you over Tennessee Pass - somewhat tougher than Fremont. John

RE: glacier national park

If you go thru' Browning be sure to visit the Museum! One of the best. Also - for Lewis & Clark fans - a few miles east of browning on #2 there is a monument marking the furthest north the Expedition got - also the site of the only serious confrontation Lewis had with Native Americans. The monument ( a tall obelisk is a couple of hundred yards north of the highway.

RE: What in the world were they thinkng

I sure hope they had their propane tanks turned off since there appears to be total separation of the cans from their mount!

RE: Attwood water heater remote switch light not coming on

I have the same problem on my Crossroads Cruiser 5th wheel. The red indicator light no longer comes on when I turn the hot water tank to either gas or electric. My hot water tank does work fine however. After some troubleshooting I determined the circuit board sends the signal to the red light. Something has died on the board apparently. Since the hot water tank continues to work I just ignore the dead light problem. IF your water heater lights OK with propane you will NEVER see the red light. That light is to indicate a failure to light when on propane. The Light (at least on my current Crossroads and previous fivers) only will come on after the DSI system tries to ligt the gass after 3 tries. John

RE: Current Opinions on Direct & Dish?

We have Dish Network and pay for local (Denver) channels. We just take a reciebver from home and have a second dish on a tripod that stays in the RV. We don't have a lot of trouble finding the 'birds' wherever we have been - and get our Denver network channels everywhere! Do you lose the Denver channels when you get over 100 miles from home? How much extra do the local channels cost? Wanted to go with Direct but they don't offer locals once you get over a certain distance from home. Brian Currently in AZ and watch Denver news every night! Same with OR coast this past summer. The 100 mile limit is just a myth. Now I admit that some of the Denver stations - PBS, local non-network stations are on 'spot' and not available. Right now watching 2 different hockey games , one on Versus (never carried on Direct)-Dallas and St. Louis and Denver-Nashville on Altitude (basically a Denver local).

RE: Worst case scenario...a cautionary tale

16 years old?? That make it 1993 - one of the years that a lot of Iowa was flooded by Old Miss.! I know - I bought a used fover in 1997 from a dealer in AZ. The title said it was origianally owned by an Iowan. I had similar problems and checking with the original owner he admitted that the fiver had been in the flood waters. Dealer said - sorry we did not know about that!! No recourse for us! This probably doesn't help you with ypour problems but justa a caution for others buying used trailers - check with previous owners!! As far as I know there is no requirement that sellers must disclose problems.

RE: Hwy 93 from Kingman AZ to Las Vegas

It is a good road but your RV will be stopped briefly for a check before you cross Hoover Dam. Alt. route? Just out of king,an take the left turn to Laughlin and continue on to US 95, then north to LV.

RE: Have you driven the Dempster?

Great thread all! I have a few questions.... 1) Anyone fish in the area? 2) Can you drive past Inuvik? Or is it one road in one out? We are planning a trip up there from Vancouver BC. My family will take 4 to 6 weeks to get there, then fly home, then my brother and his family will fly in and do the trip in reverse. Half the fuel cost for me. Several good fishing spots along the way - lots of Arctic Grayling. Yes - the road ends at Inuvik - unless you want to waiy for winter and the opening of the Ice Road further on! One road up - same road down!

RE: Another Cdn border crossing problem thread

MichDoc has put it well. The U.S. has the right to ask for any document they want before they let you in as a guest. It is their country and they make the rules....just as we do up here. Personally I am getting a little tired of Canadians dumping on the United States. Anyone who full times and therefore does not have clear ties with a home base in Canada should realize that the customs officers are just protecting the jobs of Americans. They do not want to let in someone who they think might stay and work illegally. And yes, I spend a lot of time in the U.S. and it is a "dream" experience for me! \ Here here, well said. Thank you. And I agree also. If you don't know the rules - don't play the game! Mod.- time to close this one also??

RE: The trip from hell......

Wind?? On two separate trips this past snummer/spring the crosswinds coming from my left were so strong that they blew the steps of the fiver open! I had to get out and use a bungy cord to keep them folded up! - Late April - coming west from Kansas City to Denver on I 70 - tornado warnings all around us! Then last month coming west from Socorro NM to Springerville and Show Low AZ on US 60. And yes the fiver did behave quite nicely! John

RE: Local Channels ?

Just curious for all you DTV users - is that D for Dish network or is it Direct TV? If you want a better answer to your query please be more specific.

RE: Atwood Furnace problem

Did you purge the LP lines by opening a burner and waiting for the stove to light? If not it may take several tries for the furnace to light. Ditto - and did you open the propane tank valves - very slowly? It is possible the tech turned them off.

RE: how long can black water be kept "on board"?

Do a search on the Forum for 'sewer flies' and you won't want to keep it very long.

RE: Canada Wireless

friend joeb. has said it all. To repeat - most communities in Canada have libraries with wifi available ( federal subsidy, I believe). For telephone we also use a walmart prepaid phone card at pay phones.

RE: Banff full hookups 2010

I have a trip already planned only to find out that about 100 of the 300 full hookup sites will be out for repairs in 2010. To top it off the reservations will not start until early April 2010 per last years schedule. Question are there any full hoopups close to Banff. I do not seem to find any within 25 miles. So what is your problem. Lastyear I had NO trouble getting afull hook-up site in Tunnel Mountain Cg for Labour Day weekend and the following week and I did not get on line until April something! And yes - one third of that cg was closed last year also - for repairs (new sewer/water lines) So don't give up if that is where you want to be. We also like the fhu sites in Lake Louise cg. John

Arizona snowbird business has rebounded

According to an article in todays Arizona Republic newpaper - in Mesa alone there are more than 44,000 RV sites! A survey of several of the larger Parks reservations for this season are way up and cancellations of earlier reservations are down. Several parks, based on reservations, expect to have 90-95% occupancy in Jan,Feb, Mar. Yuma area has over 24,000 sites and parke are reporting similar numbers. An older survey by AZ State University School of Business estimated that snowbirds contributed over 1 billion dollars to the AZ economy!

RE: Any square dance campers out there?

Our winter quarters RV park has at least 3 square dance sessions every week - regularly scheduled in one of our two ball rooms. Many dancers in the Mesa area and lots of the Parks schedule dances.
