RE: Smokey mountains in early spring-

kadell
There are lots of hiking trails within the park. All of the hikes we took, with the execption of Clingmans Dome, were to view some waterfalls. I would recommend the hikes to the following waterfalls. Here are some of our photos from Spring Break 2008 in early April.
First - Lynn Camp Prong

King Solomon's Wisdom

Two women came before wise King Solomon, dragging between them a young man in a three-piece suit.
“This young lawyer agreed to marry my daughter,” said the first woman.
“No! He agreed to marry MY daughter,” said the other. And so they haggled before the King until he called for silence.
“Bring me my biggest sword,” said Solomon, “and I shall cut the young attorney in half. Each of your daughters shall receive a half.”
“Sounds good to me,” said the first woman.
But the other woman said, “Oh Sire, do not spill innocent blood. Let her daughter marry him.”
The wise king did not hesitate a moment. “The attorney must marry the first lady’s daughter,” he proclaimed.
“But she was willing to cut him in two!” exclaimed second woman.
“Indeed,” said wise King Solomon. “That shows she is the TRUE mother-in-law."

RE: Washington DC for Spring Break - recommendations needed

We stayed at Prince William Travel Trailer Village. Full Hook-ups. About 30 minutes to the metro station. Park at the mall and walk during the week to save on parking. Give me a holler if you need more info.

RE: Rest Areas

We have stayed several evenings in a rest area, but never in a parking lot of any store. The first time we stayed in a rest area was unplanned. We had a long day of travel planned for our first day of vacation. I came home from work, the wife had the camper ready to go and there was nothing left to do before morning. So we decided to get about four hours of driving done and stop a rest area between 10pm and 11pm. Just after 10pm we stopped at the next rest area. I parked away from all the truck, and was lying there listening to road noise, thinking to myself, this is going to stink. About 30 minutes later a truck pulls in next to us, leaves his diesel running and I fall fast asleep listening with the white noise in the background. As Orion said "it's amazing how easy it is to 'tune ' them out."
Now we plan all of our long trips with a pre-night on the road. An extra 4 or 5 hours the night before can turn that long 12 hour drive into something more manageable.
We have never been bothered by anyone when we've stopped for the night in a rest area. I also like the fact that at a rest stop, you know that there will be a police vehicle driving through the area during the evening.

RE: When to go to Disney World?

The week after Thanksgiving, through the 19th are the lowest census at Disney. We go every year. You can then see all the Christmas decorations and parties. After the 19th of Dec. the rates go up.
I couldn't agree more with Snowshoe. We've been several different times of the year and by far the best was the first week in December. The park is decorated for Christmas, but it is not crowded. Beginning with the week before Christmas, things begin to get more crowded as you approach the holidays.

RE: Advice Needed on Tree Vs. Neighbor

Doug4.7,
Based upon the size of the tree and the fact that you know she cut down all of her tree when she moved in, the tree was there when she looked at the house and decided to purchase it. The fact that she failed to take this tree into consideration when she purchased the house is not your problem. Unless you want the tree removed, don't do it. I tend to believe that even if you decide to cut the tree down for her that this would only be the first of many complaints this woman would have about your yard, house or anything else which might bother her. I could be wrong about her as I have never met this person. But if you've already told her "no", it seems to me that she obviously isn't going to settle for this as an answer. It is not your job to keep her happy!
Just one of a couple hundred million opinions that exist in this country!

RE: campgrounds in the Washington, DC area

We would prefer
- Private campground (kids want a pool)
- Something quiet (away from highway)
- Something close to the busline or subway
- WiFi is nice, but not required
- Clean bathrooms are a must (have 4 ladies coming)
We camped at Prince William Travel Trailer Village in April. They have everything you need.
- They have a pool, but it was closed when we were there in early April, so we never used it.
- Away from the highway and quiet
- The subway (Springfield Station)is about 30 minutes away.
- They do have free WiFi & I did use this
- The bathrooms were very clean and the showers were hot.
They have a website, look them up!

RE: Bar Harbor Maine CG

We stayed at Hadley's Point in July 2007. It is nothing fancy but it is family-friendly and affordable (compared to some of the other campgrounds). We were there to see the area, not to spend time at the campground. The staff was friendly and we saw lots of campers enjoying the pool. At the end of the road that the campground is on is a nice beach-like area where you can see a beautiful sunset. A staff member told us about it and we took a small picnic supper and watched the sunset while our son fished from the point. We would stay there again. You may not want to stay there if you want a more upscale campground.
I completely agree!

RE: maine 2010

krabbydad,
For full hook-ups, I would recommend Hadley's Point Campground in Bar Harbor. Very nice owners and their rates are reasonable for full hook-ups.
Depending upon where you want to go and what you want to do, when my memory begins working again, I will post another campground recommendation.
