RE: 2004 F250 6.0 Diesel hard starting when cold

The glow plug dash light seems to work as always. When I turn the ignition to on, it displays on the dash and within about 8-10 seconds turns off and then I attempt to start.
I hope it's not the glow plugs. That sounds really expensive!
Thanks again,
Jim
Is this normal for your truck or for Fords in general? My WTS (wait to start) light has never stayed on longer than 3 seconds..even in single digit temps.
(not trying to "start" anything here...just asking and learning)

Having lived in Mexico for a number of years...
Don't even think about carrying "protection" south of the boarder...
If you do, you will have lots more trouble that "bears, mountain lions, etc."

RE: 2004 F250 6.0 Diesel hard starting when cold

Check you fuel filter...cold conditions might be slightly "gelling" your fuel and if you filter is somewhat plugged it might be causing your problem..
(disclaimer:
I not an expert here..I just drive one that has luckily been completely trouble free)

RE: Armed burgulary in RV

This incident was previously argued to death and was finally locked.
It became a passionate and at times nasty pro - anti GUN debate.

RE: Fastway "Flip" Automatic Jack Foot

Interesting...I like it. It looks convenient... But it only adds 6 inches and it sells for $50 + shipping..I'll have to think about it some more.
I use one like this (black) and have had it for years on 3 different trailers. It adds 8 inches and goes for around $15.
Before this I stacked up wood.

RE: Backup

Lots and lots of external back-up options out there..on site and on line.
I use a Seagate and I pick when and what to back-up.
For my VERY most important stuff..I double back up and store in a secure place off site.

Lots of tough guy talk here.
Case in point:
The horrific murders of 4 armed, experienced, jacketed police officers last week just down the road from me.

RE: 12 volt lead to the trailer

I'm confused (I often am)
You have a brand new 2010 Jayco? I can't imagine that it didn't come pre-wired for a TV and does not already have a 12V receptacle somewhere.
Also what dealer would sell a brand new trailer WITHOUT a battery??
Good grief.

RE: Diesel 3/4 ton comparisons

I welcome non-biased, fact based comments on which brand might be best .... I'm favoring Duramax, 1st, Dodge 2nd and Ford 3rd choice but not sure I have real good reasons for that order. Comments?
"non-biased" truck opinion - And that's going to happen???
If YOU like the Duramax then that's the best recommendation of all because YOU are going to be the one to drive it and pay for it.
My opinion..they are all good. Towing with any late model diesel is a pleasure.

No reason not to buy a new Ford....but if your 06 has the LBZ Duramax -think hard before you get rid of it. That generation is highly sought after..

I have never been a fan of chips/programmers or most any other bolt on band-aides for under powered trucks.. (BUT THIS IS JUST ONE MAN'S OPINION)
You say your truck is a "one ton" and you say your truck is a F-150...
Not possible...:?

RE: WATER LEAK UNDER BATHROOM SINK

What you are showing is a vacuum breaker. It is probably part of a black tank flush system.
It may expel a small amount of water when you are flushing your black tank...mine has on occasion when the water pressure is very high.
I just put a small towel under it to catch any water that might drip when I am flushing the tank...otherwise it doesn't leak..
Did you flush your tank recently?
If not...maybe others can help you, but that's my guess.

RE: 2010 Jayco 29BHS. How to reset after breakaway

http://shop.easternmarine.com/images/product/4426.jpg
This is the pin (or a similar one) that must be pushed back into the switch on your trailer tongue to "release/reset" the brakes.
As previously stated..if it is left out you can burn out the coil on the brakes themselves. (overnight would certainly do it)
Pulling a fuse at the battery to disconnect it may not do the trick because the emergency brake system is often wired independent of other 12v systems on most trailers...
I'd check or have the brakes checked before you tow next time.

RE: blue smoke from 6.6 duramax 2002

Blue smoke is caused by engine lubricating oil burning. The oil can enter the combustion chamber from several sources including ..
Worn valve guides, or seals
Cylinder &/or piston ring wear
Cylinder glaze
Piston ring sticking
Incorrect grade of oil .. too thin and getting past rings, or valves guides
Fuel dilution of the oil, making it too thin.
Blue smoke is often evident at cold start, which can reflect reduced oil control due to carbon fouling deposits around the piston rings and/or cylinder glaze (which is actually carbon deposited in the machined cylinder crosshatching. These tiny grooves actually hold a film of oil, which in turn completes the seal between the combustion chamber and the oil wetted crankcase).
Blue smoke should not be evident at any stage.
