RE: onan generator

the knuder valve is broken. post the model number and at least the first letter and 2 numbers of the serial number and we will be able to help you No, think it just lost residual magnetic resonance. Will need the model/spec serial number to determine if negative or positively polarized.

RE: Need to remove generator

Does it need to come all the way out? Can you drop it some, tilt it and then gain access to where you need to be?

RE: How to check voltage from genset

A VOM comes to mind, that is what I use. Tripped breaker? Need the genset Model/spec. Only 1 model of Onan will continue to run if it does not make power, the rest will stop as soon as you turn loose the start switch.

RE: Onan 4K buzz sound

Post the whole model/spec/serial number so we'll know exactly what you have. Else, just a guess and I'm not real good with guessing.

RE: New 2010 Cummings Diesel Engine

The ISL is a improved version of the "C" block, with a new style head, injection system and turbo. While the new injection system was designed to meet emmission standards, the overall engine is a well proven design and should be trouble free. Hey, for over a year I misspelled Cummins before a friend, who doesn't even own a diesel, corrected me. For some unknown reason though, everyone seems to know what a "Cummings" diesel engine is, so what's the point in correcting a poster? Sorry, The "L" engine is a completely different engine than the "C".

RE: How long can i run a generator?

Have seen many well maintained diesels run beyond 50,000 hours. Shut it down daily to check the oil and fire it back up, repeat to the recommended service interval, service it and repeat.

RE: Synthetic oil how good is it

Several years ago, Mobil came out with their synthetic aviation oil, AV-1, for airplane engines. On the surface it looked like a great deal and quite a few people bought into the Mobile advertising hype. After all, synthetic oil is supposed to provide better lubrication and be less resistant to higher temperature breakdown, etc. AV-1 was taken off of the market by Mobile after they had spent millions to repair/replace numerous engines damaged by the synthetic oils inability to perform as well as the old basic single weight petroleum oils that were in use at the time. That was good enough for me. After many years of racing motorcycles and cars, with never having an engine or gearbox failure due to a lubrication breakdown, I have continued to stick with the petroleum oils for all of my vehicles. It wasn't broke so I see no reason to spend extra money to "fix" something that didn't need fixing. Mobile does a great job with their advertising but many petroleum manufacturers also give a lifetime warranty against damage done to your engines due to oil failure. You got any documentation on this, other than someone said?

RE: Diesel genset

Onan and PowerTech are both good. Kohler is no longer in the RV business, they do offer mobile commercial. In any case, they will be powered by Kubota or Izuzu diesels, excellent engines that are proven and will give long reliable service if properly maintained. Know of some approaching 50,000 hours. Fuel consumption will depend on a lot of factors, variable speed or steady speed engine, amount of load being two of them. Yes,can be run while driving down the road, designed that way. To sum it up, Onan or PowerTech. Stay away from Generac. Reliability issues, hard to get parts like starters, alternators, controllers and finding someone to work on one will usually result in frustration.

RE: what's up with propane tank pricing?

I think its more on the order of price gouging. Company who fills the tanks at the house came by and filled everything, charged me $3.96 per gallon. Last year it was $1.96. Called and talked to them, no that's the right price, no mistake made. Called another propane delivery company, their standard rate, not a contract deal was $2.47 per gallon delivered, contract rate was $1.96. Called the first company back and told them to come and pump out what they had delivered and leave a receipt as I was going to file a complaint with the state for price gouging. They backed up and corrected the invoice down to $1.96. Gave me a story about how their parent company in Ohio is forcing them to do business this way. Paid the corrected bill and told them to never come back. Got a contract with another supplier for next year at $2.05 per gallon, delivered. Point is, shop around, there are folks making excessive profits at your and my expense. I can see making a profit, thats the American way but I won't stand for price gouging.

RE: Need Opinion from CUMMINGS EXPERT

Don't bother trying to help this guy. He knows it all already. If he doesn't like your reply, you get a PM from him laced with profanity. He might not know how to spell Cummins but he's got the 4 letter words down good.

RE: Cummins 8.3 Thrust Bearing

I doubt that lugging the engine would be that cause of a crankshaft end play issue. Transmission put excessive thrust on it by some chance? It would have to be a lot for it to do that. What did the crankshaft look like? What is Cummins' opinion as to the cause?

RE: Need Opinion from CUMMINGS EXPERT

From your replies, it appears you are not here seeking advice, just want to brag about what you got. Suppose you might want to contact cummings and see what they might have to say.
