RE: Onan Generator NMH 7.0 KW Major mouse Damage

If it isn't rusted, out of the MH on the bench, takes about 2 hours and its ready to slip back in. Good time to give it a good cleaning under the sheet metal, new brushes.

RE: 7500 ONAN WON'T START ON BATTERIES

Batteries hooked up correctly?
Good connections?
Use a VOM and see what happens with battery voltage when you try to start it. Post the results here.

RE: Onan, 8K Generator Will Not Start

The error code is 32, which is low cranking speed. I have tried with engine at fast idle and battery voltage looks OK. Any other suggestions?
Check battery voltage while cranking and post it here.
Loose/poor electrical connection.
Over filled w/oil.
Wrong (too heavy) oil in engine.
Worn out/bad starter.
Does it sound like its cranking at the proper/normal speed?

RE: Can you convert a quietpact 55 genset from gas to LP?

Good luck getting any useable information from the generac factory.
Yes, possible and easy to do. Unless you are real handy with tools and knowledgeable on gaseous fuel systems, you might want to involve a professional. Propane leaks can send you and your MH to the moon.
Believe a company out of Jackson MS offers a kit, Moulden Supply, good folks.
Also consider the quantity of propane you can carry, propane does not have as much energy as gasoline, per gallon, and therefore the genset will use a little more of it than it would gasoline.
IN a RV there are 3 ways to use propane, low pressure vapor, high pressure vapor and liquid withdrawl, all of them having their good points and bad points. Do some research before you jump into this.

RE: GENRAC runs but has no voltage

Frank:
To answer your question, maybe. Some folks have a test fixture/jig to test them, easy to build. Some don't know how. If you can get the voltage regulator out of the genset, there is no need to pull it out to do any checks or repair unless the rotor or stator is bad.
I'd ohm stator windings to look for a short or open, also continuity to ground, if none, look to the brushes, free in their holders and making good contact with the slip rings. Ohm through the rotor from the slip rings, should be in the 20 to 30 ohm range and no continuity to ground. If it all checks, read your manual and see if there is a procedure to flash the field. If that makes voltage for a short, then you have a failed voltage regulator.
The most common cause of a genset not making voltage is a failed voltage regulator. What kills voltage regulators best of all is shutting them down while powering a load, the bigger the load, the worse it is.

Depends.
Contact he genset manufacturer and ask them.
Might be no derate and it might be a 10%.

RE: generator not saying running

Post the details again please.
What does it do?
Stops as soon as you turn loose the start switch?
Post the whole model/make/spec and serial number so we'll know what you have.
Will it stay running as long as you hold the switch in the start position?

RE: Need help from a Winnebago Yoda...

That switch is for the electric element in your water heater. You can run it on LP or electric or both if you want a fast recovery for a second shower or a long shower. Flip it on and it will draw about 15 amps so if you have a 30amp coach you may not have enough overhead to use it with the A/C on.
That is correct.
Sounds like a factory installation as our '03 Journey hadgthe same thing in the same place.
Look again in the compartment where you see the jacket water heater cord, should be a receptacle in there somewhere. The switch in question controls that receptacle. On a cold morning you can preheat the engine for a better start. Runs off of shore power or the genset. An hour or so of preheat should be all you'll need down to around zero F. Do NOT leave it on full time, at 1500 watts, its an energy hog and wasteful of resources.

RE: Guardian?

Used to be a generac dealer. Was in negotiations trying to sell a generac system to a hospital, the hospital engineer told me the no one ever got fired for buying Cat and then did just that.
The great majority of them installed are there for the sole reason they came in as the cheapest. Not the best value for the money, simply the cheapest, the lowest cost. I always tried to give my customer the best value for their money, not take as much of their money as I could and leave them with an inferior product that would eventually let them down.
Glad your dealings with generacs are better than mine. I've also been involved in hundreds of generators and systems installations, from 7.5kW to a system of 14 2mW gensets, after the first few generacs, I got away from them and moved on to equipment that was a better value for the customer, not the cheapest but a better value.
On warranty, they had numerous times tried to pay me with future parts credits, it was months, many calls and faxes before I finally got paid as per our original agreement.
You will find very few installed in hospitals or other areas where it is critical that your emergency power systems works, always. That is where you'll find the Cats, the Kohlers, the Onans, the Katolights.
Won't even get started on product or parts support, not something to be proud about.

RE: Guardian?

Why are Generacs bad? Aren't they the #1 selling generator in the home market?
I sell generators (Generac, Briggs, and Kohler). I have people who swear off Briggs because they had a problem with a lawn mower 50 years ago. So they buy a Generac. IMO, the Briggs is way better.
Frickin' dinosaurs.
Anything is better than a generac.
#1? Marketing hype and that they are priced lower than everybody else. They are priced lower because they take shortcuts building them out of the cheapest material possible and then do their best in denying any and all warranty claims.

RE: Guardian?

Generac make Guardian.
Generac's reputation has gotten so bad they have come up with a new name to sell under.
Onan being the golden standard of RV gensets, generac being the other end.

RE: generator for stick house

Does not take much power for a fridge or freezer. You could probably run both on a Honda 2000.
Nope.
Might run one, maybe, if the refrigerator is a small one and it doesn't go into the defrost cycle.
Domestic refrigerators and freezers draw a whole lot more power than does the RV models.

RE: Anyone ever change a starter in an Onan???

Yes, cover has to come off.
Would strongly advise removing the starter and having a good alternator/starter shop rebuild it or ordering a new after market, will be a whole lot less costly than one from Onan. They are excessively proud of their parts.
