Now have dedicated 20 amp for trailer power

I just had some electric work done on my house and we upgraded an outlet in the garage to its own 20 amp breaker. The outside outlet I use for the trailer is now also on a dedicated 20 amp breaker.
Not as good as a 30 but better and we didn't have to run new conduit :)
So now I can safely run the AC when packing for a trip :B just have to make sure the other electric stuff is off on the trailer.

RE: water pressure vs water flow

Not to disagree with my fellow Firefighting buddy "harleyfire18" because he did a fantastic job of describing hydraulic water flow calcuations and what comes out of a hose at what flow and what pressure but this can be very confusing to some so I say get a pressure regulator thats what I use.
Thank you. I think its interesting how technical discussions can get on here! :>) Happy water flowing everyone!!

RE: water pressure vs water flow

There has been a lot of recent postings on the value of water regulators and keeping the pressure in your rv below 65 psi and yet still have a decent shower flow. But what about the flow? Some of the Watts regulators say 2-2.5 gpm and others say 4-4.5 gpm? I would think that the higher # would be better but I do not know what the rv plumbing system allows. There is no need to get the higher # if the piping in the trailer restricts it to a smaller number. Does anyone know the standard gpm flow is in their trailer? Are their differences between manufacturers or is there a standard in the rv industry as to water flow? Thanks for your help.
Good point most people dont realize there is a difference between pressure and flow or gpm. As a firefighter we have to calculate and deal with these numbers a lot. From what I have seen rv plumbing all seems to be 1/2" or less. There will be a lot of FL (friction loss) in this size line. So in other words if you enter the trailer with 50 psi of pressure you wont have 50 psi anymore at the farthest faucet. BTW 50 psi is what I have always heard is the recomended max pressure you want. 65 sounds ok too - this is the same for a house. High water pressure can cause damage and problems over time.
Something to consider is that flowing more water will fill your tanks faster and use your supply faster if your drawing from a tank. Those numbers you mentioned for flow rates on the regulators sound about right. A typical garden hose (5/8") will give you about 15 gpm. Our fire hoses can give us from 100 to 1,000 gpm.
As for your question on what the rv plumbing system allows in terms of flow - this would depend on the particular rv in question. You shouldn't have to worry about flow. But if you wanted to find out just time how long it takes to fill a gal. milk jug and do the math. Pressure is the thing to be concerened about if at all. Feel free to reply if any of this didn't make sense!

RE: service for your TT after a long sit

Hi congrats on the new to you trailer purchase! I bought my used trailer about this time last year and it had also been sitting for a couple years unused. The above info. is all good. Basically you need to give your trailer a complete inspection. Dont be too over whelmed with this. It can actually be fun and you can check and become familier with the trailer and its functions as you clean it. Yes I would check the roof, tires, brakes, grease, lp system and make sure everything works and there are no leaks. This board is a great information source to get your questions answered. I used it quite a bit in the beginning.
When I bought my trailer the people I bought it from had really good maint. to date info. for me. The tires were shot because they didn't have them covered. Besides the rubber drys out and you will get flat spots if the pressure isn't maint. and the trailer moved regularly. For me that was the big thing that needed immediate attention before a trip. I used Camco tank freshener to clean the fresh water system. I was very happy with this product and recomend it - just follow the directions (all steps) and you will be happy.
Oh another thing I replaced a lot of the plastic hardware on the outside of the trailer that had dryed out over the years and became brittle. I used US Adventure Rv as a good source for many parts that I needed.
Good luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have!

RE: OT - Test drove new TV candidate #1 today...

LOL I knew I was going to start some discussion with my post :>) I haven't had any problems with my 6.0 power stroke. Yes I have heard of other people saying the 6.0 is notorious for problems...but not for me yet. I bought my truck used and have had it for almost a year now. I started doing the oil changes, grease and filters on my own now to save a little $ As for buying diesel from regular pumps the only thing I've heard is to make sure you buy from a place that sells a large amount of diesel so your not getting old stuff. I've heard bad fuel is the cause of many problems with diesels. I've been treating mine this winter and so far no gelling up for me.

RE: OT - Test drove new TV candidate #1 today...

My vote is for the FORD. If you can wait a little while the 2011 Super Duty is going to have a new engine in it. I'm not sure if it will have the DPF on it or not. Do a little reading on those (diesel particulate filter). But yeah you cant beat a diesel for pulling a trailer I love mine. I'll never go back to a gas truck as long as I own a TT.

RE: Inexpensive tank heaters on Ebay?

So has anyone tried these heat pads from Ebay? I've been watching this topic and I'm glad I was able to point people towards some hopefully heaters that are worth it. From the pictures it seems that they are constructed well. I think I will be ordering some soon. I took a trip last week but with temps in the 20s and no heaters yet I just left the trailer winterized. The DNR website made it sound like they had showers and flush toilets but when I got to the campground they had pit toilets and no water. The one spicket on the office building that was marked for winter use didn't even work. I was at Kettle Moraine south in WI for anyone wondering.

RE: Inexpensive tank heaters on Ebay?

Sitting here looking at a $50 ebay gift card that I wasn't going to use, I decided to buy the 3-pack for $45.95. Won't know till I get them whether they're as good as they need to be, but I'll report back.
Oh ok well I hope you are happy with them. Be sure to report back to us.

Inexpensive tank heaters on Ebay?

Has anyone had any experience with the cheap tank heaters on ebay. Here is the one listing I was looking at here
Obviously I would need more than one and have to figure out a way to keep the pipes from freezing but I was just wondering if these are worth it or not since they are less expensive than the ultra heat.

I've seen these for sale on Ebay for not that much. Might just be easier to buy one.

RE: Gutter problems

Thanks for the info. and suggestions guys. The white stuff fell last night in Northern IL and its 25 degrees outside now so this project will have to wait for warmer weather or spring. I really like that rain cap setup and will have to look into doing that. I wouldn't have to add those extensions to the gutter ends if I did that too.

Gutter problems

Has anyone had to replace the gutters on their trailer? Mine appears to be cracked on the one side and water drips down the side of the trailer leaving those nasty black streaks - see pic. I'm not really sure how they are attached since I really haven't looked into the project much. Figured I'd see what kind of advice I got on here.

RE: Winterizing - how cold?

I got it at Camping World.
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/blow-out-hose/38534
You just have to buy a 1/4" quick connect air hose adapter to attach to it. I've been using the draw tube attached to my pump to put the pink stuff in but I thought this would be nice to have. I liked this setup compared to others out there because I could do it by myself and leave the air hose connected while I went in the trailer.
I agree "pink stuff" is cheap insurance by all means but I poised the question for discussion.

RE: Winterizing - how cold?

I winterized mine after a trip in the end of October since I thought I was done with it for the year. A opportunity came up to use it this last weekend so I camped Friday night and Sat. night in Indiana. Friday night it got down to 28 and my outside water line froze enough that I didn't have any water in the morning. Anyways when I got home yesterday I winterized it again. The way I look at - I spent $10 in antifreeze which is piece of mind plus a lot cheaper than something freezing and breaking. Now I have one of those blow out hoses (I dint' use it though). I dont see why you just cant blow everything out good and not even worry about the pink stuff. Anyone know anyone or problems doing just this?

Badlands Off Road Park campground - Attica, IN

I camped at the "Attica Family Campground" this weekend. It is located next to the Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, IN. The park is a place where you can take atv's, dirt bikes, jeeps, trucks, you name it. All sorts of trails, woods, mud, sand, rocks, hills (mountains) and terrain for whatever you like. Very fun place. The campground is great in the fact that you can ride your machine right up to your campsite and then back to the park. This is so convenient for breaks and when riding with a group of people and taking turns with machines.
The campground itself is very crude compared to most. It is very muddy and gravel roads/pads. Not too much grass and no trees. It is basically just a open field that they made a bunch of pull through sites in. But it is fine since you go there to ride in the park - not really enjoy the camping part. Although I think they could clean it up a little. Another problem (actually this is a big problem) is that they put the sewer drains on the sites a couple feet above the ground level. I couldn't even use the one at my site since my trailer was not high enough. This could easily be corrected and I think I will be emailing the campground about this.

RE: Using RV Furnace to avoid frozen pipes?

I agree just blowing out the lines seems to me that this would be enough. I just use a pick up tube connected to my pump to draw the antifreeze in and then just run my faucets and shower heads until I have good pink coming through. This year I bought a air line hook up to blow out the lines because that is what everyone recamends...but why??

RE: Vent insulation idea

I used plastic wrapped insulation however when you cut it the ends are open. The plastic bag was just to contain any chance of fibers escaping. There is no "fiberglass floating around" so this is not a "health" concern. As for moisture concerns I will see when I take a trip Thanksgiving weekend. I have a inside/outside temp. gauge that I can monitor humidity on. My thinking was that there are plenty of other points for air to escape in or out. The trailer is not completely air tight.

Vent insulation idea

While adding insulation to my house recently I came up with this idea. I had been considering the vent pilLows but at $15 a vent I was holding off. I made my own with r13 insulation inside two plastic shopping bags. Cheap and effective.
