RE: Full Time

In 1999, we started researching how to go Fulltime when we retired. Got a few books and while they are somewhat outdated then and now, they were a big help. With Forums galore online, there are places to READ, READ and READ.
Because I had done my research, when life changing events gave us the opportunity and ability to fulltime in 2005, we jumped on it. We were only going to "try" it out to see how we would manage. Once you Fulltime you aren't forced to live that way forever. But we found we loved it and think we could!
I'm a list maker, so I had a notebook dedicated to what issues I thought needed to be handled. You need to read a lot of opinions before you hit on what works for you.

RE: Considering the RV Full Time Lifestyle

I too am sorry for your loss. Everyone reacts to a loss differently and it's hard to imagine how you cope until it actually happens to you. Life changing events prompted us to move up our schedule to fulltime. I quit work in April of 2003 to stay home and babysit a 2 year old granddaughter. In August, we lost our youngest son who was only 18.
When DH's job kept him down in FL and too far to come home every weekend, DGD and I would go visit him. Then he moved on to another project and into an Extended Stay, that progressed to a Corp Apt. After 4 mos, we went DUH, we could get a 5th wheel and do this too. It took us another 2 mos for the lease to run out and to get a 5er and TV. Then DH and I with the DGD began moving from project to project until DGD was ready for Kindergarten. She's in 3rd grade now and really enjoys spending every summer with us and meeting new people.

RE: SEIU: Investigates Boy Scout VOLUNTEER Trail Project

What a conflict. Our President who espouses the need for everyone to become a Volunteer is also indebted to the SEIU President, Andy Stern for helping get him elected. Will it get worse before it gets better??

RE: owner financing

Money is tight and in some areas and the Banks are being really difficult about financing without substantial down payments.
We owner financed 2 WA coastal lots back a few decades ago. Sold for better price and then got extra with interest payments.
It would be even easier now to track interest income now that computers can calculate. I used to use a book and log it in every month. At least we had a calculator to do the math!
And in WA state it was easier to low cost to sell using a title company vs and attorney that some Southern states require.

RE: Problem with mail forwarding--advice?

We signed up for mail forwarding service with Passport America. Our mailing address is in Florida. Now Humana (our Medigap provider) says that they won't cover us if our address is in FL, because they are a Texas insurance company.
Then contact one of the FL sales offices and see if you would need to transfer policy. Let us know what they say. link

RE: Just picked up our 'New' Horizons Fifth Wheel

Wow, a Fellow plate collector. Very tastefully done. I do love the copper tub, although, DH and I prefer showers! Tee Hee.
It looks like a cozy mountain cabin. Somedays, I consider redecorating ours as a Longhorn's Steakhouse. Just hate the thought of packing everything up when it's time to relocate. We've got a similiar problem as collectors of mementoes from our travels... Although, Longhorn's glues everything down so customers don't walk off with them!

RE: Window Treatments

I like our (lambrequins) cornice boards, too. It allows me to use tension curtain rods to hang insulating curtains. Really helps in all seasons.
BTW: We already replaced the day/night RV shades, too.

RE: Mail Forwarding Sevice

We only move about 3-4 times a year. We've been using a UPS Store from the state we started FTing in for our mail forwarding. They send it to us at the CG or to another UPS Store near DH's jobsite.
Pick your City, then check pricing, there are lots of options in FL. Most mail forwarders let you set a schedule. We used to get mail every week. But a few years ago to save money, we changed it to every 2 weeks. So far it's worked out well enough that we have no need to change.

RE: FT RVing for seasonal jobs

Since you're alone, a 20' might be small, but workable. It depends on the floorplan and your needs. Our son has a Toyota Tundra and bought a 32' Ultralite TT last winter that he uses on his out-of-town jobs. Right now he's in FL, but spent his first winter in N.VA with us in single digit weather. He bought a BH and had 2 workers staying with him for weeks at a time.
You'll have the ability to be more mobile than someone who needs to rent an apt at every new job location. And remember Seasonal means less when you can move South with the Snowbirds. So I think you're heading in the right direction.

RE: Terrible News - Shooting at Fort Hood

My daughter's friend was still on base at the time of the shooting. He heard the warning and headed to the safety of a friend's house on the other side of the base. They did a lot of Texting as she was at work. I would call her to pass on information.
Now we hear this morning, the shooter, a psychiatrist wasn't killed yesterday. Luckily, he wasn't the one treating DD's Friend for his PTSD.

RE: H1N1 and pets

There is no vaccine for animals. I just heard the cat story this am.
Some of our kids and/or extended family already had the H1N1 go through their house in Georgia. Not all went to Dr, but those that did tested positive. Those that got tamiflu had fairly mild case. Our son just had a couple of days of feeling bad, his nearly 4 year old daughter was bouncing off the walls the 2nd day after the tamiflu dose.

RE: $6500 tax credit for current homeowners to buy new RV?

In an email from credit union, they said in certain cases, you could use the homebuyer's credit. But we bought ours last year, so can't take advantage of it.

RE: HELP! Insurance claim may be denied

Another area for Fulltimer's to check. FTer's Insurance also covers contents. Normally, that's covered by your homeowner's policy. You're out of $$$$ if you don't have adequate coverage!

RE: HELP! Insurance claim may be denied

DH ran into the rear of another vehicle on his way to trade-in the 3500 for the F450. National Interstate knew we were FT, knew we had FL address and accident happened in N. GA. They paid promptly and without hesitation on our claim.
I would have the policy writer review the policy with me to see why an adjuster might deny the claim. Not all adjuster's are easy to work with!

RE: How to carry extra diesel

Before we added an inbed fuel tank, we always carried 2 cans of diesel in the bed of the TV. Cans were from Home Depot.
We would stop at a Rest Area to stretch and empty the cans into the tank. We still stop at RA and DH flips the switch to get the extra 60 gals flowing.
