RE: What size Dutch oven?

We are family of 4 also (kids usually have friend along also) and have a couple of 10" DO's. There has been a few times I would like to have had a 12" to hold more. Lodge brand is best but we bought an off-brand from Academy Sports and haven't had any issues with it. We normally use charcoal briquettes for heat, not firewood. For the briquette type cooking, a DO with legs and "lip" around lid is much easier. We had one without and used 3 rocks under it and made a "lip" from aluminum foil. Be sure to read up on seasoning and proper cleaning in the link othertonka provided. Since we may go weeks/months without using DO, DW likes to coat with mineral oil because it won't go rancid like a vegetable oil will.

RE: Who's going to FDR SP next weekend?

Lucky you! We like alternating year to year between FDR/Callaway and Stone Mtn weekend before Thanksgiving to get into the Christmas spirit. We can't do either this year due to DD's college/marching band schedule and DW's work schedule!

RE: Coffee Maker Elevator

Cool idea! Do y'all argue like kids over who gets to push the elevator button? :B :B :B

RE: Heating a tent?

Also, I'd be careful covering up too much of the tent mesh. In a small place like a tent, your breathing will add moisture to air and you might wake up with it raining inside tent :B

RE: Heating a tent?

Don't use air mattress...need insulation from cold ground. For scouts, DS and I used thermarest brand self-inflating mattresses and, at about 2" thick, they are as comfortable as 6" air mattress plus give good insulation from ground (R6 maybe???). Use a toboggan style hat. I slept in a hoodie, pulled hood over my head and then put on toboggan. As mentioned, good quality sleeping bags. If you do use a propane style heater, please don't sleep with it on. Get tent warm, shut it down and then go to sleep. If you have electric, a small ceramic space heater would be nice. Get 2 metal milk crates. Turn one upside on tent floor, put heater on it and then turn 2nd upside down over heater for safety.

RE: Need to find a good blood glucose meter

I also use a One Touch Ultra. Often the doc or educator has meters they will give you. The mfr do this to get you to buying their supplies. Also, note Gezzer's comment about using the side of your finger tip...not right on the tip itself. Much less painful. If doc hasn't suggested it, get an eye exam and tell examiner about situation. Plan on annual eye exams.

RE: Best cupboard door latches?

What is the brand and where do you get them (hopefully some place other than CW)? They came in the MH :B :B :B Sorry, don't know brand, I just looked for a pic that looked like what MH has in it. I found these pics by just googling "rv cabinet latches". I've seen them in most RV parts catalogs ("real" catalogs and online). PPL Motorhomes might also carry them.

RE: Stone mountain ga

My opinion, campground is nice but not as nice as price you pay. Many of the sites are not level which is probably why kevinbti mentioned loop around pool...they are most level. But, to me, the other loops are more "camping'ish" (wooded, trees, etc). BUT, given how close you'll be to rest of Stone Mtn, it is worth it. If you follow link in my signature, I have some pics from our visit there last Thanksgiving. Two days, three max is enough to see most everything at Stone Mtn. If you stay longer, plan on trips to places like Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, World of Coke, Fernbank, etc.

RE: Best cupboard door latches?

Our 5'er had latches like these... http://rvdiscountsuppliers.com/rvpart/01020.jpg The MH has these type... http://rvdiscountsuppliers.com/rvpart/01015.jpg So far, I like the style in MH better. Don't know if they are the "best" out there but seem to be doing a good job. A friend has an older TT (mid 70's model) with latches that have push buttons on the handles. You push them in with thumb when opening cabinet. I like them but haven't seen them on anything newer.

RE: Savannah/Tybee Island

Glad you enjoyed your time in Savannah! I noticed you didn't pay attention to the folks around you in Savannah. I fixed your opening sentence for you :B :B :B Hey y'all just wanted to thank you for your sound advice for our trip to Savannah (to get our daughter set up in her dorm), we loved Skidaway State Park and camped there in our pop-up for 5 days....

RE: questions from a Class C beginner

On question number 2, any particular reasoning for limiting the size? Yes, my wife says so. Her daily driver is a suburban and she already thinks that is to big. So she would prefer we look at the smaller class Cs so she would feel comfortable driving it on occassion. It would be used mostly to camp during fishing tournaments, hence the requirement to easily tow a boat. My son is only 5 so the three of us would fit comfortably in the smaller units. OK. Didn't know if issue was towing/launching boat with longer MH. Seems you have kind of opposite dilemma we had...DW wanted bigger MH. Good luck in your search!

RE: Why we can’t snowbird?

I thought there were ways to "winterize" a home just like an RV or boat.

RE: questions from a Class C beginner

On question number 2, any particular reasoning for limiting the size? I, too, was wanting to stay in the shorter range (24-27) but could not find the floor plan DW would go for after being used to a 30' 5'er with super slide. We finally settled on the 32' Gulf Stream in signature. Although I've only done it once, I towed and launched our 20' bowrider with no problem. I was really surprised how well it went. It could turn out to be beginner's luck and next time will be a disaster :(

RE: hate the dinette (26f)

Our 5'er had table/chairs instead of booth dinette and we really liked it. We could move chairs into main floor area for sitting, watching TV, etc. With MH, I'm liking the extra storage but miss using chairs instead of benches. But, not bad enough to consider taking it out.

RE: hate the dinette (26f)

We also like our dinette. The storage underneath is valuable plus after dinner we like to make it into a bed and watch movies while cuddling. The surround sound makes the whole coach rock when a good action movie is playing. The "surround sound makes the whole coach rock" :B :B :B Yeah, right! ;) ;) ;)

RE: 97 Gulfstream

Gulf Stream is two words and the model is probably an M6311, not W6311. You might have better luck finding similar units using those couple of thoughts. On NADA Guides, there is a 1997 M6311-CC. Without adding any options (just the mileage), it comes in at 19K ~ $23. That low of hours (<25) on a 1997 generator might be more bad than good. If they just "exercised" as needed it should have more than that.

RE: Gulf Stream Class C Conquest

Back in August we traded a truck/5'er for a 2006 Gulf Stream Yellowstone 6316. So far we really like it. I've done some minor stuff to it but nothing major. Biggest issue was the solenoid between house and chassis battery was bad so the engine alternator wouldn't charge house battery while traveling. Bought a new one at NAPA and its working fine now. DW does miss the amount of kitchen storage compared to previous 5'er but we have better storage in other areas. We've "camped" in it twice and taken it to 3 college football games (camped/tailgated in parking lot all weekend).

RE: Over hang braceing

I've seen supports like you describe in pictures on the truck camper forum here at rv.net. Perhaps you can find a picture there and contact the owner/member?
